3080 Ti available at select physical Best Buy locations starting tomorrow morning (no online orders)

They'll push until the market won't support the $ tiers, then we will see what they do.

We know what they’d do, that’s why he used Turing as an example. 3080 FE MSRP is reasonable and was a result of slower than expected adoption rate of Turing.

At least they had to stand in line and not use bots....
Either way they are preying on us regular folks who can't stand on line, for whatever reason, and can't outwit the bots (which is all of us). Kind of like profiteering after a major natural disaster or the pandemic.

yeah that was hard pass for me down here in virginia beach lol
That is where I was. The weather kept most people away. There were 41 cards at the store and the 41st person arrived at around 5:30.
Chesapeake had 60+ people before midnight and they only had 42 cards. 2 guys drove down from Fredericksburg since there were a ton of people at the Best Buy up there.
They called a friend around 10pm that lives here and asked them to check Independence store and there was only 10 people in line, they hauled ass down here and were numbers 26 and 27.
My friend and I were 23 and 24 when we arrived at around 12:30.

I feel there is something different (depending on the type of profiteering going on), if there is a disaster somewhere and someone take is car and bring is water-gazoline-gaz lamp and what not will have high value to the people there and sell them at crazy price, it is a net benefit to both people involved, that price hike actually create some offer that save life.

Here it is almost pure parasitic, it does help people that has great use for those cards to put those hands on them over people that would simply play with them which I guess is some value for society, but that about it, it does not make more cards being available.

Parasitic is exactly the right word. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Oh I know, and I’m also a person who can’t stand in line due to a disabling injury. I would have been there if I could. It would have made the upcoming 9 month surgical recovery a little nicer.

I will always remember this time as the lost generation of GPUs.

The limited supplies caused at least a few customers to get desperate. “People offered to buy our seats. They said, ‘We’ll give you whatever you want. $2,500 for a seat,’” Arciga recalled.

The Founder Edition for the RTX 3080 Ti itself costs $1,199. However, Arciga refused the offer. He’s hoping to use the GPU to play Call of Duty: Warzone.

He got there Wednesday morning and turned down $2,500 for Call of Duty: Warzone. Amazing.

I know right? That is dedication but personally I would have trouble turning down that much money for a gpu spot, not a gpu. Especially it is an FE that reviews show runs hotter than AIB. Too much money and I would question one’s financial acumen.

I don’t know buzzaro world we live in now.

I want to know how the average person who can afford a $1200 video card somehow or another doesn't have to go to work on a weekday and can spend all night and morning waiting in line...

I need to find a new job.

Take sick day? That is $1k easy money all in a day’s work. More than most people payday.

I do like from that story that one guy said he was a 3D artist and game developer, so it was “It’s super important that I get one,”. If your actual livelihood is that dependent on it, i would expect him to be there earlier to get it, then. This idea that somehow "I deserve it more than you" is both funny and sad. Except scalpers, F those guys.

You're assuming they are going to scalp them (pretty good bet).

What they don't tell you is how many people they had to ask before they found someone who was going to use it like that. Let's face it. Judging by the actual pictures of the people in lines, they don't look like high rollers. They look like scalpers. The guy that was offered $2500 for his seat? He's a damn fool for not taking the money.

Your job doesn't offer vacation days? I get 22 days and I can take them anytime I want without having to schedule them. I just will not sit over night for a video card.

I checked Facebook Marketplace (only reason I keep a Facebook account) out of curiosity, and was surprised by the lack of 3080Ti cards on it.

Yeah it's hard to believe anyone would want to do that. I'm not standing in line for 8+ hours even if I could make 1k scalping it.

My job requires me to schedule vacation days. I can't just take them with 1 day notice (like Nvidia did with BB store locations).

Sick day, not vacation day. No one can predict when you will be sick, right?

In this gig economy, for an Uber driver or food delivery guy, $1k is what you gross in a week, if you have s good week. It is no brainer for someone in that position to do this side hustle.

I woke up this morning to my Facebook Marketplace Feed with 4-5 sellers with postings selling 3080TIs for $2100+. One piece of crap had 13 or 14 - like 8 founders and 5-6 FTW3 and Strix models sitting on the hood and trunk of his Mercedes, and his buddy next to him had 3-4. They were still in the best buy parking lot. You can see it in the back ground of his pictures. It's so frustrating. Between scalpers, Bots and Miners... it sucks trying to be in the hobby of building PCs these days. I've been trying bestbuy, amazon, newegg shuffles for months now, I got a few early on for myself and friends, but now I can't get another one for my Son's PC.

Can also swindle old ladies out of their money or run ponzi schemes, etc. Sometimes your soul is worth more than a few dollars.
yes, scalpers are soulless husks and parasites.
Perhaps because of my upbringing and volunteering, I have seen firsthand of many families struggling during the pandemic. I won’t be so quick to call them such names. It is more of a hustle thing for some to put food on the tables for their families.
Anyway, off topic.

I've had the same thought.
I respect the idea of someone making $ scalping a ticket more than scalping a gpu.

Ebay you have to give up a % in fees and go through Paypal to get paid. Facebook Marketplace you can get cash, no middle man. I would figure more would use it, thus the curiosity. I am a bit away from any decent sized city, so maybe i need to expand search area to catch all them in my results. Again, it was mostly curiosity at how many there would be and how big a markup

What's a gamer supposed to look like?

In that area (LA), clearly between 18-30 years old and male. Well, at least PC gamers who want a 3080Ti. Otherwise it looks like a pretty diverse bunch.

I can only assume you guys are joking about what a gamer looks like. If you're actually being serious then that has to be some of the most ignorant comments I've seen. You have no damn clue if someone plays games or not based on appearances. I know in the several hours I stood in line I talked to people from all walks of life that were very passionate about gaming. I mean we had short, tall, fat, skinny, old, young people of all varying skin colors too.

Obviously. It's just amusing that the various 3080Ti line photos in that article (and the ones from the Microcenter, too) show a very heavy slant toward males who are between 18-35. I wouldn't call those line photos even close to representative of gamers as whole.

I have not even opened my 3080 ti yet since I was so tired and I had to go to work right after getting home yesterday. I am seriously thinking about throwing it on eBay right now as I've had several more medical bills than I ever expected this year. At the same time I may not even get an opportunity to get a video card like this for 6 months or more and I really could put that GPU power to use. I do know in a normal market and normal situation I would have never bought a 3080 TI for $1199 in the first place and would have gone with a 3080 for $699. Sorry I'm just thinking out loud here...

I'm considering camping out next week if the 3070 TI launch is the same way. Hell, every BB gpu drop should be like this. I'll race a scalper to the first spot in line rather than 1000s of bots buying up all the cards before I can even click 'add to cart'.

Well depending on your exact location you might want to get there around lunch of the day before LOL. Most of the people in line here were there since the previous afternoon and a lot of people that came late learned their lesson and will probably be there extremely early for the 3070 TI plus the fact that it's a much cheaper card will have a much larger turnout I would think.

Do we know how the "restocking" is going to work at BB for the 3080Ti? Is it going to be in-store only moving forward with no on-line reservations or was this just a launch thing?

I'm in new england so I have a couple to pick from... but will definitely have to plan to be early.

no info on that yet. Would be awesome if they keep it in store.

If you already have a 2080 ti there's no real need for a 3080 or 3080 ti. Better to have cash in the bank than overspending on luxury items.

You're fortunate enough to have a really good video card right now. The 30-series is obviously better, but it's not a night and day upgrade. The people that "need" this card (I use that loosely since it's a luxury item) are people that don't have a GPU. Who knows when another one GPU of any sort might come around, too? I'd sell it and just avoid charging a full-on asshole price.

There is going to be a difference between gamers and gamers who have the time and money to wait outside bestbuy to buy a $1200+ GPU.
