3080Ti Review: Mostly a Neutered 3090

Amusing seeing some cards get an editors choice award when they admit early on in the review that they have no pricing information for it…How’s that work exactly? Surely cost HAS to factor in to the review never mind some dipshit “award”.

Not saying it is easy to get a GPU these days as it's not, but once you get to that level of price point, a 3090 seems a better choice. Especially if you are are going all out for performance, memory headroom and longivity. If you are going to have your wallet reamed, might as well have the best. I'm just glad I scored a 3090 at MSRP last year before they started jacking prices.

I'd buy a 3090 for MSRP right now.

I'm not sure almost 400 watts is sff friendly. Just saying.

Odd, I didn't know a 400w capable GPU (3090 FE in this setup) couldn't be SFF friendly. Seems to be working just fine for me and my setup seems to provide adequate airflow. It'll idle as low as 24C at night (around 27-29C during the day) and levels out around 68-70C under extended load when overclocked and power limit set to 114% (~400w).

Only challenge was it took a little more patience to get it into the case. Of course, it isn't something that needs to be removed/reinstalled that often. But I am thinking about redoing the thermal pads and paste to see if I can get it to run a little cooler, especially the back side.

So exactly as most would have expected. In the middle of the small gap between 3080 and 3090. Not only is this the most underwhelming TI variant compared to previous generations, it's also going to be impossible to buy like everything else.

Some of the reviewed 3080 ti such as the eVGA are even faster than the 3090 FE.

I keep counting my blessings that I was able to get a 3080 FE for $700. Today's market is just nuts.

they really needed to price this a bit lower...$1200 for a Ti versus $1500 for a Titan...in the end I guess availability will be the main obstacle for most people...

Anyone know off-hand what the average performance increase was between the vanilla XX80 vs the XX80 ti is? I'm just wondering if this is one of the lowest ever deltas.

We've known for quite a while that it's just a 3090 with half the VRAM. At this little price difference I'm glad I got a 3090.

11% at 4K. No point in looking at lower resolutions considering even 2560x1440 is CPU-limited these days with how powerful video cards have gotten. It was 28% between the 2080 Ti and 2080, and 35% between the 1080 Ti and 1080. The lowest delta prior to this was 20% between the 780 Ti and 780.

Pretty sad.

It's hillarious... the consensus from reviewers, "Did gamers ask for this?" lol
I mean, they really did. It's 3090 performance at a cheaper price, what more do you want? It's not like in the current climate of the supply chain that the release of the Ti was going to offset the pricing like in generations prior to Turing.

I mean with that logic, so is the 3080 lol.

I think what most of the reviewers want is better availability of the 3080 so that their reviews can be meaningful. It's hard to make a buy/don't buy recommendation when the only way to buy it is to pay some unknown, but very large, premium over the MSRP, which is already arguably outrageous.

It depends on the reviewer. I factor it in, but I don't really count it for halo level products unless something is completely out of step with everything else without any justification for it.

I'd like a video card at a reasonable price / performance ratio...or even A video card at this point.

$500 dollars for 2-8% performance gain in 4K on a 3080ti isn't worth it. Might as well buy a 3090 and reap the rewards of that extra 12GB of VRAM....if you can ever find one.

Being a neutered RTX 3090 was pretty much expected. The price is a bit out of line for what you get over a regular RTX 3080 though.

I happened to be in Best Buy today and remembered that these were coming out, it was early in the day and it doesn't hurt to ask.
"Do you guys have the 3080 'tie' in stock by the way?"

"They might come tomorrow morning, you'll be third in line." As he nods to the front door, where I see two people sitting on the ground.
"They're here a lot."

:O At least get a folding chair ffs. It was 1pm

Not sure about average gamers, but press/media/commentator, the 10 gig of the 3080 was a major talking about, there was a quite vocal for a more ram 3080 to be released and on the sellers side, the moment they could not sell all the 3090 has fast has they can make them it make a lot of sense to have a product like this that they can ramp up.

If you can find a 3080 at $700 I would certainly buy that, but are those still sold at that price anywhere ?

Yea, unfortunately the same place that has in store only 3080 ti's.

And if we want to go on that tangent, you are looking at 1100 dollar 3080's vs 2000 dollar 3080 ti's.

The poison is still strong.

*note Evga gpu's are cheaper than the rest, so in that case it's 900 for an rtx 3080 ftw3 u, and supposedly 1450 for the ti.*

3090 owners are starting to up their asking $ to match or exceed 3080ti.

At this point I'm going to bow out until the market contracts.

I want to buy at the bottom for a non essential workflow like gaming, not buy a used car worth of value to play games on a pc.

"Instead of a marginally higher price than the RTX 3080, the MSRP is 70% higher and the RTX 3080 Ti is only about 10–12% faster on average"......not withstanding ridiculous current prices in general.

To be clear, imo, it should have been $1K-1.1K and with 16GB vram to be truly in the middle of the 3080-3090. This chip itself is great. The package value is poop =/ Not enough vram to be a content/semi pro card for compute/deep learning etc ala 3090, too pricey to make sense as a pure gaming only card. Might as well save a little more and go for a 3090. What's $300 more in the scheme of things? If one is already paying through the nose, might as well go all in.

Of course, in the context of supply & current market conditions, anything seems to be justifiable and silly prices will be met by consumers, miners, enthusiasts or otherwise =(
