NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti and 3070 Ti Officially Announced

Doesn't matter. With the excessive GPU demand they'll be sold out for the foreseeable future anyways, and sold for a lot more than that. And not just sold out, instantly sold out.
I'm not a fan of the efficiency of these current GPUs but can you imagine the sweet GPU deals when the miners start to sell? The nice aftermath of crazy high demand from mining.

Wouldn't it be great to be excited for a new graphics card?

I'm excited. Will be the closest to perfect gaming card among the options, and will replace my 3090 because it'll likely OC higher despite the differences in activated CUs.

Specifically, the core's thermal headroom will be higher since it will contend with 12 less G6X chips dumping heat into the HSF block. Having worked with a number of 3080s and 3090s, the extra heat from the 24 G6X chips on 3090 is substantial, bordering on PITA.

Yes, all of that. But I won't be able to find one on the shelves. I suppose I'll try to buy one from Best Buy, but its probably a slim to none chance.

They abbreviate it "Ti" like on the periodic table. When people reference elements they don't say "tie" for titanium or "he" for helium. They say "T-I" or "H-E".
Exactly. Its always been Ti and will always be Ti for that reason.

As others have mentioned there are so many coins these days, they will probably find a new one that is profitable enough (compared to ETH) to keep mining.
As an added bonus, the new LHR feature only applies to ETH, not other coins. So they have even more reason to switch.

So June 3rd will be maximum scalping day! Guess its going to be BestBuy only for FE's? Will Microcenter also get some on the 3rd or 4th (though these must be...AIBs?) Still its frustrating that they're only dealing with such a jacked up price for the 3080Ti and only 12gb VRAM?. The 3070Ti still stays at 8?! I thought we'd have 20gb / 16gb or at least 16gb / 12gb respectively for the price jump.

And of course aall of these will come encumbered by the "LHR" mining limiter ; interesting to see how long until it can be broken or worked around. I still don't think we should be intentionally encumbering and removing features, rewarding Nvidia for doing so - more sales at a higher price for less features. Its not going to meaningfully stop miners and its only going to hurt those with few cards who can't even defer the stupidly high prices of these cards in their off-time. Ugh. I hope to see AMD come back with some alternative - to get prices down (especially on AIB) or refine their process for more performance or better yields.

Also worth mentioning I don't think the 3090 (all models) is getting LHR either.
Yeah LHR will mostly be a nonstarter at the face value of the idea. 3080 Ti and 3070 Ti FE's will not be limited, 3090 will not be limited, and - at least for foreseeable future - any LHR cards will just mine ERG and auto-convert to token of choice for a 10-15% hit vs a non-LHR card mining daggerhash at a 50% hit.

How do you pronounce the atomic symbol for Titanium, which is also spelled Ti?
Did I ever mention anything about that? Maybe don't take what I said out of context as I was directly referring to him saying there was no e in titanium. This is not not science class and the periodic table does not mean squat to most people if they see ti on a product and so it would not be uncommon to pronounce that as "tie". FFS think about how stupid it is for you people to be complaining about pronouncing it as "tie" when even many people at that very company that made the card pronounce it that way.

I've wondered what would happen if crypto crashed around the same time the next generation of GPUs were to be released. There would be an unprecedented glut of used GPUs entering the market.

Lol we went from arguing who makes the fastest GPU, or who's GPU is the best bang for the buck, to arguing about how a company pronounces an arbitrary marketing term for their GPU.

On the plus side, it's more entertaining than any upcoming games look.

I'm gonna start pronouncing it 'tih' rules don't matter anymore all hope is lost

Seeing these and their pricing I am less upset about not being able to get a processor that I was going to pair with a 3090. But given that Intel’s Xeon W’s at 10nm we’re delayed and AMD hasn’t released a new Threadripper I’m just going to sit this one out for a bit.

They list my local Best Buy. I think I'm going to be crazy enough just to go drive by around 7:00 a.m. and if nobody's outside waiting then I'd be crazy not to try my luck. Worst case is if there's a few people outside then I'll just turn around and go home and it will only be a few minutes wasted.
You might hit the jackpot and not have people camping out overnight.

I doubt it. Scalpers are probably lining up now for it. There is 1 store about an hour from me.

Yeah it's really hard to know what to expect as there may be one or two people only that show up or there could be a hundred people that show up. If I lived in a city like Atlanta then I would not even bother but I have a feeling there shouldn't be too many people trying to get this $1,200 video card here. But then again they may only have a couple of video cards to even sell. I may actually go by there at midnight just to see if anybody is there since it's only about 5 miles from my house.

Well you could be right because there might be people crazy enough to drive several hours and camp out tonight.

This is what they're doing, flocking in from hours away and lining up now. Small town store location won't matter.

Yeah cant have it cheaper than the 2080 Ti card, have to make as much as they can to keep bankruptcy away.
Yep, someone at NVidia remembered that they sold the 2080TI at $1200. Someone else there also remembered that the 3rd stimulus check went out?

I got my 3080 from camping out at my local Micro Center 5 hours before the store opened...same thing will happen at Best Buy to an even worse extreme as it's only a 1 day event (as far as tickets/vouchers being given out)- people will camp out all night...when I camped out there were no guarantees or vouchers and people still got there 5 hours before the store opened (in the middle of winter)

And the forecast here is for rain and thunderstorms so that should make it even more interesting waiting at Best Buy through the night..

If people camped out in freezing temperatures, I gotta imagine T-storms won't scare 'em away.
