Forza Motorsport 7 thread

An example of my issue is the C7 Z06. Both automatic and manual use the 8L90 in the game and shift the same way, except one goes through the gears automatically and the other manually. When selecting the manual we should get the TR6070 with its shifting characteristics while selecting auto or semi-auto gives us the 8L90. Similarly, the ZL1 should be the TR6060 with a manual and 10L90 with auto or semi-auto.

As far as physics we gave some older examples earlier in the thread. Out of the games I've played Project CARS and Project CARS 2 give a much more realistic feeling in transmission physics than Forza ever has.
I touched on this back in a feedback session with T10 in the 2H of 2019. Explained how the game needs to represent proper torque converter implementation and went on in detail about how they can fit it into their model seemlessly.

That's part of the problem too.

You don't think there is a difference between driving a manual and a sequential? Because in FM7 there isn't.
Well with a manual I might be tempted to skip shift down whereas with a sequential, I can not. However for the point of wrestling a car around a track, just how big of a difference do you think there is? Tens of milliseconds of torque interruption is all. Doesn't matter whether it's a wet auto, a flappy paddle F1/SMG style or DCT, they all shift sequential, only difference is timings. Unless your advocating for skip shifting?

However with the case of C7 Z06, the game only models one version. You can still shift the automatic manually IRL, so which version should T10 use in game?

Only thing I don't like is they offer auto in cars that only come manual and vice versa. But I get it...

likewise you can add clutch to cars that never had them....
I look at it as the game is modeling the car, and auto transmission just means the game handles the shifting for you. It is an aid, similar to TC, ST, steer assist, braking line, etc.

i dont expect that to change as literally all car games do that.

They could add the AT/MT option when buying the car and it adds the torque converter stuff to it and changes the ratios to that of the automatic version. However they arent going to change this as its just to much legwork to do for something so niche. Its easier to do what they are doing and if you want the auto you change the gear ratios to that of the automatic and if you so wish change the gear shifting to automatic.

For automatic cars i plug in the automatic transmission ratios and then put it to Manual with Clutch. If you hold brake and then press the gas it almost is like stalling up a tq converter.

There is a difference between having an aid that switches gears for you, and an actual automatic transmission model.
It wouldn't be more legwork than adding a different factory color for the car if the transmission models are already implemented.
But apparently the target audience doesn't care about such attention to detail.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Not sure why you're rolling your eyes. It makes perfect sense.

On this topic though, Beam.ng Drive is the only driving game/sim I've ever played that accurately models a standard torque converter transmission.

Perhaps he thinks a car with an automatic transmission revs out to redline in every gear before shifting no matter engine load or throttle position. :)

because it requires alot more then adding a factory color to a car. I have already went through the decrypted database for the game to know.
Hes also yet to really define what he means or expects by "Automatic transmission model" other then saying this: "If you ever driven a car in your life you should know there is a huge difference between automatics ( with torque converter) sequential dual clutch transmissions and manual H shifters with clutches."

If he could articulate and conduct himself a little bit less like a child maybe i could get on board and agree with what hes saying and hand that information off to Turn10. But he cant it seems so yeah.

If Turn10 needs a random on an internet forum to explain to them why a torque converter automatic is different from an automatically shifted DCG or traditional manual then they are a lost cause. 😅

They dont. But being someone who actually does race in real life and has a fundamental understanding of how automatics work since i race with one it might help get it further between the goalposts then something they would try on their own. But in all reality. Its rare that circuit raced car is an automatic instead of a dual clutch or manual so youd have to have an answer to that before they would even listen to you.

That's a moot point because there are TONS of cars in Forza that are only available with automatic (I mean aside from swapping them in the upgrade system.) I agree that automatics don't have much place on a circuit (well, older ones anyway, the newer ones from the past 2 or 3 years are actually damn good) but nevertheless the game is packed with older cars with 3 or 4 speed automatics.

Is there any evidence the game actually follows torque/hp curves and not just peak numbers and redline value? Because for me that the biggest disparity between real life and their implementation. LS motors feel far more urgent and Ferrari motors don't have a complete lack of low end or their eager pull at the top end.

Also, Lambo is a complete joke.

I generally feel that they do based on my exposure to real life counterparts, at least as far as a basic physics simulation in a video game can. Certainly there are games that do it better than Forza, but I think that on this front Forza suspends disbelief enough that it is enjoyable. But I prefer racing stock vehicles in Forza rather than the homologation nonsense.

Decided to put in some playtime over the weekend. Happy to see multiplayer is still active. I must say that the "Forza Regulations" have increased the quality of online races dramatically where it's used. I had some wonderfully close races that I had not experienced in a long time. One race I had at Yas Marina was decided by probably less than the 0.001 second shown on the results between myself and the other player. Started another race at the back at Nordschleife and was able to make it cleanly through the pack to take the win.

On the other hand, looks like achievements are completely broken. I am pissed that I did not get the ones for completing all the races in a championship, and it appears it has been a problem for at least the past year...

i just hope that FM8 isn't the confused mishmash of ideas that FM7 is. they really, really need to focus on the "motorsport" aspect and leave the goofy hotwheels top gear bowling shit to horizon. make single player engaging with more than just "start from the back of the pack and win in 2 or 3 laps" formula they've been going with since the very beginning.

Forza had qualifying in single player until FM5. After FM2 they moved it into Practice. Setting a time in Practice would dictate your grid starting position. They made up for it by adding a race length option, at least. I enjoy the longer races regardless since I always hated the 1-3 lap sprint mentality.

I don't mind the Hot Wheels stuff, but they do need to get rid of the homologation stuff in single player because it really curbed my desire to finish it. Unfortunately we've already posted interviews where Turn 10 has intimated that homologation is coming back in FM8.

i forgot all about the practice "qualifying" they had. but yeah, what i'm saying is get back to something that resembles real motorsport with qualifying, pit stops, penalties, etc (at least in the appropriate categories.) forza motorsport still has the opportunity to fill the gap between, say, forza horizon and gran turismo sport. give players a motorsports oriented experience with uniquely customized and upgraded cars (i know gt sport has this already but it's to a very limited degree, both in terms of how cars can be modified/customized and how often they can be used in official online races) in addition to more traditional categories like gt3 and gt4.

gt7 is probably going to up the game significantly now that they have a proven multiplayer system in place. it'll be interesting to see what turn 10 will come up with.

I would actually love to see Turn 10 make a fully fledged multidiscipline licensed racing game. The game is already a base for that, they just need to go all the way. Have one game with full seasons and rules for IndyCar and WeatherTech included. Add the rest of the tracks and teams and it would be a fun game. Maybe include V8 Supercar, WEC and DTM in that mix. All these series for some reason are lacking in video game exposure outside of serious sims like iRacing. Licensing demands from some tracks has become quite an issue, though. It used to just be Japan, but now European tracks like Spa are trying to get more money.

i fully agree with you 100%. basically take what project cars 2 did so well (a variety of series with the appropriate car and track rosters with close-to-real race formats and rules) and combine it with what forza has been very good at, a realistic yet approachable physics model that works really well with gamepads and a strong multiplayer base. i don't think they should fully abandon the "street" series racing (stock or modified production cars) but it should be a very specific series of racing within the real motorsport ones. leave the crazy "the sky's the limit" humvees vs bugattis shenanigans to horizon from here on out.

Turns out my achievements are not broken. I've discovered that more events are unlocked in each series once you get the trophies for the initial events. There is no indication that this happens.

The game is going EOL on September 15, meaning you will no longer be able to buy it or play on Game Pass starting on that date. Turn 10 says that if you purchased any DLC for the Game Pass version that you will get a token that will allow you to continue playing the game after that date. The game is on sale at a 75% discount until it is taken off the store. Unfortunately it doesn't look like any of the DLC is on sale. The standard edition is $10 and the Ultimate is $20 with the discount.

Sad…I bought an XBox One specifically for this game. I’ve never really been happy with Horizon either.

Oh well, I still have Snow Runner!

You can still buy it right now, and if you own it you'll be able to play it into the foreseeable future including multiplayer. This is the issue with games built on using licensed content, though. Eventually those licenses expire. You need both the incoming revenue to justify renegotiating the licensing deals and the license holders have to want to renew them in the first place for the publisher to continue selling that game. It's a better deal to just move on to the next game. I would expect FM8 to come out some time next year.

Today is the last day you will be able to purchase Forza Motorsport 7 before it is removed from the store due to expiring licenses. If you are a long time holdout still, this is your last chance.

definitely worth all of $20 for the ultimate.

I'm still trying to figure out how to put the physical disk into my Series S...

My condolences. I would have just sucked it up and spent the $10 it was going for over the past 2 months to have it digitally.

I spent $100 on that disk and it better continue to work...

Edit: so it was still allowing me to install the add ons but wouldn't let me install the full game. I called Microsoft and they're going to add it to my library.

So going forward, if we have game pass ultimate, should we still buy the Horizon 5 Premium disk or just buy the Premium add on? I'm assuming next gen we won't even have disk based consoles but if they remove games from the store the disk will be the only way to play them.
