LG CX 48" 55" 65" 77" 4K OLED TV 120Hz VRR HDMI 2.1 - Microcenter (Refurbished)

There is no "HDMI 2.1" cable. Stating the HDMI version in the marketing is actually discouraged by HDMI since everything is backward and forward compatible. What you need to look for is an "Ultra High Speed" cable which indicates one that can carry the full 48 Gbps bandwidth.
While true generally people know what you mean by hdmi 2.1 cable. I always look at specs and reviews before buying cables.

This is great info. A lot of guys fall for the cheap chinese hdmi 2.1 cables. Some work, some don't. It all comes down to shielding, length and quality of materials. The best advice I can add to this is simply look for 8K capabile HDMI cables. 8K does 8K@60 .. this is the standard. 8K TV's which have been out for 3+ years also do 4K@120hz. Just saying. Buy you and 8K HDMI cable, you get 4K120hz 2.1. This is the simply no-worry route you guys should take. Stop looking for HDMI 2.1 lol. Again, just pick up an 8K capable HDMI cable.

So there's no "HDMI 2.1" cable for discouraging it, but "Ultra High Speed" is something that is accepted? :D Guess you need ULTRA HIGH speed for your ULTRA HIGH definition TVs :D :D

It's all marketing. I saw something on Youtube where gold plating was pointless. Who knows. Another thing I want to point out is length. There is a falsehood among many guys that you can't run a 8 - 10' foot HDMI for 4K@120hz... this is bullshit. There are a few highly rated 8 - 10' hdmi cables on Amazon, it works perfectly for me. I think the problem is cheapies, guys that buy cheap which will be a majority of people so the majority of people end up complaining about the cheap shit they buy. I'm not 100% sure but it makes sense to me. Let me see if I can link that cable.

Found it - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZDDV6DT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks, ordered one. I wonder if I show up early on Friday if I can snag a 3080 too...

Question for owners of these panels: Do the audio output jacks work? On my 43", which I was able to sell successfully over the weekend (yay!), I simply plugged my logitech computer speakers into the 3.5mm headphone jack on the back of the monitor. Whether using displayport or HDMI, the audio would come out my speakers with little fuss. The volume didn't get quite as loud as plugging directly into the computer or using bluetooth, but the monitor had no issue pulling audio out of the HDMI/DP and piping it to my speakers.

For the life of me I cannot figure out how to do this with the LG panel. I have monkeyed with all the settings. The speakers on on the screen (thankfully) sound pretty dang good, but it would be nice to be able to use my logitechs. Or be able to use headphones. Anybody successfully using speakers or headphones on your LG panel with audio through the HDMI? Or do I have to connect another audio cable to the screen (which would defeat the purpose of connecting your speakers to the screen entirely)? If so, what did you have to do to get it to work?

Picked up the 48” version a couple of days ago. Got a perfect panel (no dead pixels or screen uniformity issues) with 0 hours of use. The only sign it had been used at all was a small ding on the back of the stand.

It works on mine! You need to change the audio settings to output via “headphones” or “audio out”

Okay, I think i figured it out. Not sure what happens, but I disconnected it, and then I reconnected it again and it started working. Thanks for the tips!!

I really like the idea of the 48" OLED as a monitor- especially at this refurbished price point vs the usual ultrawides.

But, how are you dealing with the viewing distance/ergonomics? Larger than normal desks? Using a mount and pulling the desk away from the wall? I'm about 2' from my 32" and that seems about the right distance to me, but it's also the max I think I can swing while still typing comfortably. Plus we invested in a nice motorized sit/stand desk and I'd be worried about a 42 pound monitor perched on the back end of the desk, so I think I'd have to look into a mount that will easily adjust vertically with the desk... personal problems.

Finally, would a 3070 be able to drive this? I think so, but probably with resolution turned down? 3080 seems more like the minimum I'd guess.

I have a 30" deep desk and I recline in my computer chair with a footrest. I don't use the 55" OLED for general use. I just play games on it. I use a 32" Samsung g7 for everything else. I am liking the setup.

I broke out the tape measure and my desk is 27.5" so comparable. I also looked at dimensions of the 48" OLED and 34" ultrawides. Not too surprising but the ultrawide isn't that much bigger than a 32" 16:9. My Omen is 29" wide and a 34" ultra only adds a few inches in width, at the expense of height. The 48" isn't quite as massive as I initially thought it would be at a width of 42"- that feels more like an upgrade from a 32" than an ultrawide. A mount would probably still be prefered, but I feel better about it "fitting" on the desk and not being too close to it. The weight still might be a bit much for a sit/stand though.

When you play games on the 55- is that controller or can you still keyboard n mouse?

I use controller most the time. I'll use the G7 of I feel I need to use kb/m. I was worried that the 55 would of been to big but I think it worked out. When looking at them both at MC I didn't feel the 55 looked much bigger then the 48 so I went with the 55 since the price was the same.

I gotta say, the jump from 43 to 48 was just fine. Since you fine folks helped me get my sound and 120hz issues sorted, I'm now enjoying using this gorgeous display as a 120hz adaptive sync 4k display for my PC full time. WOW is an understatement. Everything is so smooth, so sharp, and contrast and viewing angles are amazing. I would still prefer a 42" simply to fit on my desk a little better, but for $1000 (cheaper than my 43" Asus VA panel, which has its own redeeming qualities, depending on your individual needs) this is a remarkable amount of display quality and utility. Just yesterday I was booking flights and trying to match a connecting flight up so two passengers could travel on the same plane together (family). I had one browser on each side of its screen. I had plenty of room for all the info. Since half the screen is essentially a portrait oriented 30" display, anything vertical like text, docs, web-pages, etc. is just huge, and can display a lot of information at once. This makes it incredibly efficient and effective having them split the screen in half. I can see effectively splitting the screen into quarters as well, depending on the project your working on. Windows 10 snap makes it easy.

And then, when you're gaming, the immersion is incredible. Playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey is breathtaking on this thing! I only wish that OLED tech would move along a little more quickly to get more of these panels out there at some smaller sizes and cheaper prices for everyone. At least we're on our way there now!

can a 5700 xt with a 4790k at 4.4 ghz get 120 fps with settings on low for this tv?

also, can do I do 1440p on this tv until I get a better setup?

thanks

I'm going to go look at these tomorrow; Anything to look for in specific when picking one out? Where do you see the panel usage on them?

I was able to play some games with adaptive sync (up to 120hz) at 4k with a 5700xt, but like you said, with reduced settings. The 5700xt is still a solid 1440p card for quite a few games. Just depends on the games and your settings. Just tweak things until you have the right balance that best suits your preferences.

Mine was in a box. Even though I drove 5hr 45minutes one way to get mine, I'm only 2 hrs away from a microcenter, so I wasn't too worried about it being bad. Could always return it to the closer microcenter if it had issues. Plus, I bought their extended 3 year service plan on it.

I haven't checked panel usage on mine, but it came out of the box looking like a brand new panel. Neither the panel nor any of the stand parts had so much as a scratch or even a fingerprint on them. So far the image is perfect - no dead pixels. All features work as expected. I didn't really have a way to be picky and choosy about it. I reserved one as quickly as I could for in store pickup just so I wouldn't miss out on the sale!

I am extremely glad I did.

Thanks! I'm waiting on a credit to post and I'm going to probably pick one up tomorrow. Thank for the info.

Yeah it’s an hour drive for me I returned it went to BB and bought new I felt it’s not worth my time 4hrs in total to gamble again

What's the lowest price you've seen for the 48" CX at Microcenter (or anywhere else , if beat) that's Refurbished ? I've seen bigger discounts for the CX 55" refurbs unfortunately. Its also worth noting that the 2021 edition "C1" models are finally showing up in stores like MC, but its questionable how much of an improvement they may be. RTings had an overview of some of th changes between the two and overall the C1 looks great as well, but it seems like there may be some panel variability - some claim to have gotten the "evo" panels that only were officially put into the G1 series (which are more expensive, wall mount focused, and sadly are 55" min) . I'd like to see more data on the differences between panels and comparisons of C1 and CX in the future.

That's the cheapest I've ever seen a refurbished one, personally. Can't speak for others. (referring to recent $999 sale)

Was that the refurb CX 48" for $999 ? I've only seen 55" at anywhere near that price and often it was just a regular open box (not refurb) and lately a lower end BX model.

Yes the cx48 and 55 are 1000 at Microcenter still atm for refund. The 55 went up too 1100 but I see it is back too 1000 atm. 1400 for the 65 also.

Picked up my 65 cx tonight. Got it hooked up and it's amazing. I had a q90t that I returned and didn't care for it. This is 100x better. Took a few minutes to get the earc setup but it's all configured now with my nvidia shield. Looks great.

Mine has 13 hours on it and was manufactured January 2021.

There is one huge downside to buying a OLED that people rarely talk about. It ruins other display tech for ya out. I can't stand using anything but a OLED anymore.

You got that right. For me it was like going from IPS to VA/TN panels. People never understand how hard it is to go back. I had triple 1920x1200 IPS monitors at home for YEARS(10+)...and every employer I've had to fight tooth and nail to get off of a 1080P TN monitor.

I fight the same fight for my kids now...the wife thinks the 15 year old Sony LCD is "good enough" for them to play their Switch's on. I argue it's child abuse.

If anyone has a Sams club membership, it seems like they might be clearing out last year's models. But I think prices vary depending on store and location. Today I saw an open box, display unit with an $1100 sticker on it (if they are getting rid of display units, they might have or will very shortly be clearing out the remaining stock)

I would not touch a display OLED.

me either, thats why I edited my post to clarify, if they are getting rid of the display, seems logical that they are currently, or soon will be clearing out the remainder of stock

Maybe its just my local MC, but its not showing any refurb available for 48" and certainly not for that price - its like $1399 and then an open box for 1350. Guess I'll just have to wait for them to get more in perhaps?

noice

a 42" would be killer for a monitor. tried a 50+" but was too big for my desk

happy with my Asus ProArt 32" for now

$1400 for a 65 inch cx? While too big for a monitor by a LOT, that's an insane deal on an oled TV. Kind if glad it's in store only, just got a 65 inch QLED from Costco for 900 w 5 year warranty, might be tempted at this price to return it though
