Hey everyone, I just bought a laptop with a 3070 in it that has a powerspec of 115 W + 15W boost.

Is that in any way limiting? Am I going to suffer some severe shity performance from this 3070? It's not the most high-end of laptops but it did cost two Grand. I just want to make sure with that powerspec it'll still play games decently. Thanks!

I know the Alienware laptops meet that spec (except I think they push to 140w?). You should be fine.. what are the other specs on your laptop? Also, what is the screen refresh rate on it?

16gb memory. Not upgradeable. 512gb ssd with 2 other m2 slots. 300mhz screen. rgb and other stuff.

my general impression is that mobile GPUs are around 60% as fast as their desktop namesakes. Not always true, as now the better laptops really cram in loads of power.

In your case, the G17 3070 with the ryzen 5800H and turbo mode scores a 10600 in timespy, vs a founders edition 3070 which scores 13600. Your mobile 3070 is about 28% slower than the desktop part, which places it right between a 2070 super and 2080 desktop card.

Yeah i upgraded from the OG Surfacebook i7. So its night and day performance wise lol. Sucks I couldn't test out the legion pro. I heard their screen might be a little better.

I went with the Gigabyte Aorus 15G XC, 3070 @105W. 32GB with 512GB but have another M.2 slot. Although another couple hundred would have gotten me the YC (3080 @80W). I think the XC hit the sweet spot for temp, fan noise and chassis weight (4.4lbs) and I dump in a 2TB NVME with the difference instead.

Yeah that thing is perfect except I had that same basic CPU with my previous GS66 laptops - wanted to get Ryzen! 3080 at 80W is not much different than the 3070 at 80W (which I have, and there's an ASUS G15 with the 3080 for another $200 to get the 3080) so not worth the upgrade.

I went for the big daddy with the 3080 and 15" OLED :X, the 3080 is TGP 80w, but max power is 105W + 10W boost + potential 15w?(Not sure what boost 2.0 is or how it works, it trades power from one part to another or something like that using Azure AI)

Since this is a replacement for my P35X with a 4K screen. I would have gone the Aero 15 4K OLED route if I'm still doing a lot of traveling since I tends to shoot a lot of 4K videos and would do some minor edit before uploading to my Youtube site. But with things the way they are, my laptop will mostly be used as a HTPC connected to my Q90T with maybe some minor gaming thrown in here and there (I do most of my gaming on my desktop):
