Elden Ring (From Software RPG)

I wasted my entire evening watching VGA just to see Elden Ring, not watching it again next year. It's been trash for like the last 3-4 years atleast.

I think it's evident why the silence on this title - its a 4D chess move, maybe developers and publishers are finally learning. Look at Cyberpunk, look at how much hate every massively hyped and anticipated title gets these days - no good trailer goes unpunished. As soon as they show footage, they want to impress everyone; yet they've also lit the end of a very long fuse - one that eventually blows the game up in their face if plans/graphics/scope and release date have to change or evolve during development and the internet finds out about it.

They're trying to make a game they say will be bigger in scope than any game they've ever done, and the silence avoids adding a ton of extra pressure with no real upside - anticipation won't really go away. During the Half Life: Alyx behind the scenes interviews, Valve developers remarked that the real reason there was never a Half Life 3, was because everyone in the office was afraid to touch it because they didn't want to attach themselves to a project that could never live up to expectations, as the internet hype levels had reached into the stratosphere and actually freaked them out- "nobody wanted to go near it".

As a FROM fan that wants this game to be their greatest achievement, I think there's definite merit to saying nothing.

If that isn't real, someone went through some serious trouble to make it. Hell, Fromsoft should contract them :D

Hopefully all of this means that the game is coming sooner than later.

You just don't do that in Zbrush.

Someone literally just took the next "big" press event and said "Elden Ring will be shown there!" and everybody fucking falls for it every time

according to the usually-reliable Jeff Grubb, Bandai Namco was originally planning to unveil Elden Ring sometime this month, but the recent leak may have pushed everything back...so, when will we see Elden Ring now?...well, Grubb says a lot of publishers are planning announcements for the traditional E3 season in June, and that we should expect to see Elden Ring by then and “no later”...

Not sure I understand why they're being so secretive with this game after that internal trailer leaked...but it's From. They tend to do things their own way. I just hope this game is set to come out sooner than later. The 2021 Holiday season would be nice, but I'm expecting 2022 at this rate.

It's like they're trying to teach people a lesson by delaying their ROI. That is an excellent idea, said no one ever. I just hope they don't pull a BioWare and rewrite the whole thing for worse or do something similarly drastic just because they're salty about leaks.

Because the internet is very harsh nowadays. If they show something that looks relatively good ---- but the final product is very different, they will get backlash for it.

They are not ready to REALLY show it and that's fine. And considering the history with how Darksouls 2 was marketed with a demo which looked quite a bit better than the real game: I am A-Ok on waiting.

Darksouls 3 had a lot of changes. Some of them really big ones. There are some youtube videos about it and its pretty interesting.

One of the big changes was that you could create your own bonfires anywhere you wanted, with a special sword. Imagine if they had shown that off in public previews and then cut it from the game. The internet would have burned hotter than Gwyn's soul, over that.

To be fair, the backlash happens if the final product looks significantly worse, not just different. No game looks exactly the same as when they first make a teaser from it.

Ja, a lot of ideas that sound good on paper turn out to not be very fun in practice. Admittedly, being able to at least create a temporary bonfire would be mighty helpful in some areas of DS3. It wouldn't be a kindled flame so it would die out after you respawn once.

Dudes would be hurling themselves off bridges and out of skyscraper windows --- "FROM LIED!!!" the whole way down.

I'm glad that never got added to the final game...would absolutely ruin the difficulty/challenge...that's pretty much a save anywhere feature...
