Hi all,

I am not looking for a debate on the a 3090 vs an RTX titan. I am looking for peoples honest opinion on the RTX Titan. Anyone who has experience with it, how it performs in general settings such as encoding, editing and gaming. I have a guy who I do work for looking to get rid of his because he is retiring from graphic design and asked if I wanted to purchase it from him for a very good price.

Thank you.

I have no idea how you assess “very good price” these days. Tell us the price.

Otherwise, the RTX Titan is basically a 2080TI for those use cases. It will perform like a 2080TI.

What will it replace for you?

$1350 is the price he is asking. I think I’m going to jump on it. I just wanted peoples opinions on the card. I am keeping my 6900xt in my main rig. The card would actually replace my 2080ti which I would turn around and sell.

The RTX 3090's are a huge upgrade over the RTX 2080 Ti and the RTX Titan's.

And also with the inflated prices going for used cards, this Titan RTX would be a steal IMHO.

It cute seeing the RTX titan going for over $3500+ on ebay. I seen some for 5k. Some are reasonably priced at low-mid $2000s but you might as well get a 3090 by then.

So I appreciate that people telling me that I should get a 3090....but we have diverged from the subject at hand....What do people think of the Nvidia RTX Titan?

Thank you.

if OP already has a 6900XT and can get the Titan at that price for what sounds like zero effort, and has a 2080Ti to sell to recoup the cost, I don't see an issue. It'll perform like the 2080Ti but with more VRAM overhead and they'll get a neat card for their secondary system with no effort (compared to potentially much effort for getting another 6900XT or a 3090)

Not when you can get a 6900XT for $1,000 or an RTX 3090 for $1,600. Again, you CAN get these cards for MSRP if you are willing to work for it.
Only place you are getting a $999 6900xt is directly form AMD. Reference 6900xt don't exist in the world. I can buy a 6900xt right now but the cheapest one they got at MC is $2000. Same with the 3090. The FE 3090 are sold at BB and are possible to buy. The cheapest 3090 I seen was a evga ftw 3 at MC for $1800. The rest while you can find them are over $2000.

I scored my 6900xt for $1399 on ebay. Whether it was put up at that price by mistake is not in my purview. I jumped on it like a fly on shit...looking back, the 6900xt was a steal. That is why I am looking at this titan the same way.

Yup, but getting one of those is next to impossible.
That's a very recent phenomenon, 3090s used to be very very easy till Jan. Many of us laughed at a 3060 Ti on NE's ebay page for 630 in Dec (was in stock for close to half an hour) and the 1899 Zotac 3090 in Jan which was in stock for 2 hours on Zotac's shitty site...not laughing so much are we (myself included)?

Indeed, we spoke about this in the PM, lol.

Just did a generic search on eBay for the 3060ti and they are going for $1200 plus....INSANE.

Yep. I turned down 3, and just had to buy a 5950X + Motherboard + RAM just to get a 3090 with it... Now I have a pile of kit to sell back off. GRR.

I'm still laughing. But still feel sorry for anyone that just wants one to game on.

RTX titan is not a bad option for that price, MSRP is $2500, and you won't find a 3090 apart from doing some hunting using Notification servers on Discord / Newegg stock drop / etc.

I'm not gonna play the "digital lottery" to land a 3090. The card I am getting is a definite steal. It was initially $1350. But he knocked off $350 in addition to me having to import all of his old videos from his DV camcorder and upconvert them to 720p so he can have digital copies. 12 tapes in total that have an hour of video each. So I am paying a grand in total in addition to the bartering I will do for him.

The way the 2080 ti's are selling used at a premium right now (I never used a graphics card for any type of mining as I sit in the camp of they will eventually die from constant mining) I should be able to turn around and make more money if I play my cards right. I could not pass up this deal.

Since getting a 3090 is "Impossible". You should buy the Titan.

The card has been supplanted by a newer one which is far better for $1,000 less. It's former MSRP isn't really what I'd use to determine its value.

If he can get a good chunk of change for his 2080TI, then at just over a grand for the RTX Titan it might be worth doing if he can use the increased RAM.

But, the card isn't a good value based on it's original MSRP, as it's much cheaper replacement invalidates that.

Well, I'd agree with you if he was able to get a 3080 or 3090 without a lot of luck. Otherwise if the increased ram is helpful for him, I'm pretty sure a 2080ti should sell for more than he's paying :)

I decided to just skip this generation and preorder the next gen's titan class card when it appears in 2022. The Titan X is still fast, my workstation can wait, even though I didn't really want it to.

There is no way I could settle for a previous generation card that costs over $1,000 when it is possible to get a newer card that's better for a bit more than the asking price of the RTX Titan. Especially since it's a lateral upgrade over what he has now aside from the VRAM. Which he may be able to use, but even so it's a crap ton of money for last generation's technology. People want to act like it's not possible to get a 3090 for close to MSRP, but it is.

I agree, but he got a "deal" for $1000 on the Titan and can sell the 2080ti for more than that, so why not? Plus he can still shop for 3090s or whatever in the mean time and then sell the Titan for as much or more than a MSRP 3090 when that time comes.

It used to be. I had great luck early on; not anymore. I haven’t seen anyone real get a 3090 since late feb. I could see being tempted; I’d probably wait, but I also just paid for a motherboard I don’t need, a 5950x I don’t need, and Ram I don’t need, just to get a 3090...

the only 3090 that is close to or at MSRP is the FE that one is exclusive to BB, every other 3090 that comes up these days is $1800+. The one I'm seeing the most right now is the MSI at $2100 and Zotac at $2100. I don't think anyone is doubting that a 3080 or 3090FE at MSRP would be a much better value for him. But those are both unicorns right now. (I'm using Falcodrins server, haven't been able to touch a 3090 for a while)

I look at it like this: At the end of the day. I have a 6900xt in my main rig which I use all the time. In my secondary rig I have a 2080ti that all I use it for is encoding when I need the secondary machine. I was told be certain people in this thread that I could get a 3090 at MSRP by doing some digging. Look, I have a full time job teaching and managing an IT department for a school of 650 kids and 90 staff members. I don't have the time to scour the internet for a "Rare White Elk" (Nvidia 3090) by sitting on a discord server all night waiting for a rare drop or the Newegg combo deal (Which I posted a screenshot earlier in this thread, the prices were way to high) So I found a deal for an RTX Titan for a grand. I gain a few more tensor and RT cores, about a 10-15% increase in performance up from the 2080ti and an additional 24GB of ram.

It's a "Win/Win" for me as I get a RTX titan and sell my 2080ti for more than what I actually paid for it. For me, it's a good deal and I am very happy with it. If someone points me to a deal on the 3090, my discover card awaits. I can afford it, but not at $3k+ per card.

RTX Titans are selling for $2k on ebay and the cheapest one listed right now is almost $3500. I see some for $2500 on other sites. Pretty good deal. I would flip it though and eventually put the money into something else when you get a chance.

2080Ti to RTX Titan in 2021 sounds like the poorest decision one can make unless you have some render job that requires the VRAM or you get fired.
