Blizzard Announces Diablo 2: Resurrected

Mode13 was slain by Gloam.

Your deeds of valor will be remembered.

can't wait to relive good old hardcore memories of getting instapwned by a huge pack of gloams casting lightning at the same time.

P.S. don't really care about the covering up of body parts, but it is true that some of the character models don't look ...good...

I have this very specific memory of playing Diablo 2 back in the day.... The first rock music record I ever got into was A Perfect Circle's Mer de Noms. I vividly remember playing act 3 with that album in the background for hoooouuuuurrrrrrssssssss.
That was a good album. Buddy of mine had the 45 special edition. Used to play it on our record player.

Quake had a hybrid CD with the game data on Track 1, and Reznor's background audio on Track 2 and up. The game would play the same track number of any audio CD on the CDROM drive for a specific level. Level 3 played Track 9 and to this day I can't hear Soundgarden's "Mind Riot" without thinking of the "foomp, ting ting ting, BANG" from the grenade launcher at the beginning of Level 3.

I listened to Facelift from Alice in Chains all the time while playing Quake. I similarly can't not the player's grunt right before he jumps into the water at the end of the Level 3 demo just as the chorus to Man in the Box starts.

Hah, my "soundtrack" for Diablo 2 was that there was a note in the desert music which was exactly the sound my failing AC would make as it tried to lurch to life (and failed). I play D2 now, hear that music, and get mad the AC is still not working.

I already purchased it. Maybe it won't be like d3 or warcraft 3 reforged..... on release day
Even if it is the perfect HD remake of D2 I’m not terribly interested certainly not for the price tag they are asking. Nostalgia will only get me so far and I’ve played the absolute Bajesus out of D2 I’m not sure there is anything really there to get me to come back.

Honestly they would have been better off with a Diablo 1 remake IMO, that they could have probably gotten my money with.

At least consider that Blizzard is open to adding new content in the future.

If they do, I'm hoping they add a ladder for new content and another ladder for OG content.

Isn't playing a game at launch based on mostly hype, regardless of the reasons?

They may add features later but I doubt they will add new content, they may incorporate many of the 3’rd party mods that kept D2 alive for as long as it was but I doubt they will add “New” content. It would distract from Diablo 4, which this is really just a hold over for that really.
But yeah launch day is either about hype or trying to get in on a story before spoilers hit. Unless it’s an MMO then you gotta hit that grind early or get left behind. All 3 Blizz are or at least were masters of but we’ll see.

Well considering the original game is still running in the background with a few QoL tweaks, and streamers had several weeks/months with the first two acts, along with the preorder beta access, everything should be Ok. It's not a game rewrite, just a wrapper running overtop the old game that has had a few tweaks.
I also prepurchased. I'm curious when the preload starts for PC, and what the file size will be.

I'm pumped, was hoping to chill all weekend on it but have to take random flight for work on Friday, so damnit!

But I'll try to get a few hours in on Thursday

Gonna get all my work done first thing in the morning ready to go when it goes live.

I have years of played time in it, and it never got old for me.

No, I actually bought it for better graphics and a few quality of life tweaks. When I fire it up, I won't have to play it in 800x600.

Considering the thousands of hours I've played the game, I'm not really worried about the current price. Also, I should probably not die before I gain this level. I probably will never load these after Thursday.

I really didn't enjoy the mechanics after the first "normal" run, to be honest. I never got drops I needed, so it was a weird and horrible grindy poo show.

YMMV.

So psyched! Played the alpha and both the beta weekends, and now the only question is what class to play for real.

Well it is pretty grindy. In fact just about all games like this are grindy. I can understand why people don't like them.

Shared stash, is going to make my life so much easier.

Sorceress always first. Gotta get that telly for mf runs. kidding, kidding, maybe :ROFLMAO:
I’m between an enchant Sorc to buff the guys I’ll be running with, or a Druid… to buff the guys I’m running with.

I do have to say, about 1.09 I was pretty insistent that they drop the atomic nerf bat on teleport… instead we got enigma

IDK, I mean you had the bounce arrows in 1.09 as well (I think). Lets not forget iths, oc rings, crazy charms, 1.08's (like shako, chromtatic ire, and arkaine). *note* I might be wrong about the version and when they happened. I went off to college and those firewall ports were blocked.

I'm thinking of going SSF for the first time, and rolling my first first sorc. I've always played a barb, and where I'm gonna go SSF, I think being able to easily move around and mf is paramount.

I think, ultimately, I'll be playing solo more than with people. So, it's likely the first one will be a sorce.

Then Bow, pally, barb, druid, and assassin.

Eventually necro

Necro is such a hard play in Hell without something to farm for him.

How is global warming still a thing with all the recycling Blizzard has done over the last 20 years???

Not recycling. Extremely active fan base has been screaming for this forever. Exactly this.
Very much this. I played insane amounts of D2 in college, but gave up after I got sick of the bots and the 1.10 runewords. I tried firing it up a few years back, but just couldn’t get into the old graphics at that point.

I’m not a complete purist though - I’d be happy if they buffed a few skills (spirit wolf, spirit of barbs, skeleton mage, Thorns, frenzy, like half the assassin martial arts tree, etc), nerfed a few rune words, and made hell harder.

I pre-ordered along with the wife. She never played OG, but I played countless hours on it... she likes it due to the added controller support. So win / win, will be playing on Thursday!!

Would love to play this but still haven't managed to build a new PC, other priorities right now. Hopefully the experience is good for those playing right now, from what I read Warcraft 3 Reforged was a huge mess during launch.

Even though I suppose it's in a different class than D2, folks can get Titan Quest + the first expansion on Steam for free at the moment. I think it lasts until the 30th, but it's folks' to keep once they add it to their collection....I remember playing the hell out of that game too.

TQ was great. IIRC, it was developed by several Blizzard North folks that worked on Diablo 2.

Good thing about D2R is that they didn't remake the game. It's still the original game/engine running, just with a new fancy graphics wrapper on top, plus a few changes mentioned for QoL. So that is a good thing, no WC3R fiasco to worry about.

A lot of people in this thread don't realize that there were still tens of thousands of active d2 players even before the remaster was announced.... To this day, the ladders were reset every 6 months and tons of people played the beginning of ladder.

I've played for 20 years. This will do well, considering it isn't taking the Warcraft 3 route.

I loved titan's quest. It still looks pretty decent even to this day. (well at least it's not 800x600) :ROFLMAO:

Confusing news posts when I checked, I want to see if I have this straight:

1- single player is available "offline" but you still need to be signed in to bnet to launch the game. So it's not quite as "always online" as D3 but it isn't truly offline.
2- no local multiplayer

right?

so unless they decide to start supporting Linux all sudden like, I'll stick to the original release I guess.

I really enjoyed Titan Quest, though I remember stopping it midway, I think it was due to a bug. Will have a look at Steam tonight to put it in my library if it´s free, thanks for the heads up.

True, it will probably be fine. Though I'm sure people will find something to complain about, seeing as this game has a massive fanbase, hehe.
