LG CX 48" 55" 65" 77" 4K OLED TV 120Hz VRR HDMI 2.1 - Microcenter (Refurbished)

Approximately 3 feet. It's far enough away that the 48" completely immerses you when gaming, but I can see all 4 corners without having to turn my neck. The 55" that I had previously was like gaming on an IMAX lol, but honestly a little large for most people. I find the 48" to be a more practical size. LG is supposedly coming out with a 42"...we thought it might be this year with the C1 series, but no dice, so maybe next year. That's the ideal size for a lot of people who like large 4K displays. I'll probably stick with the 48" unless there are big improvements to the electronics or panel (unlike the C1).
Good to know... yeah I'm desperately trying to move on from my puny 23" TV to something in the 32" range, current monitor is about an arms length away, but as I get older needing to see things larger is getting more and more real, hell having to use "accessability functions" to make text larger on a screen really starts to make me feel old.

Personally, I think you’re better off going through Greentoe for a CX right now. I just got a counter offer for a 77” CX for $2850. That’s with no tax, so if I take my local sales tax into account, it’s like purchasing locally for ~$2600. That’s for a brand new tv from an authorized reseller, so you get the full warranty as well. I’m actually extremely tempted to take the counter. I just need to decide if I really want to spend $1k more than I planned on with a TCL R635.

I got the 55" all set up today. Looks brand new. It had 296 hours on it but I see no issues so far. Everything was in the box but a HDMI cable. I can't remember if one came with my c9 or not.

I am EXTREMELY grateful for some feedback from a PC gamer. I have the Spectre 15" with the OLED, and it is extraordinary. I have long coveted that screen for my desktop, as it's such a letdown to go back to a "mere" calibrated IPS for editing afterwards, lol. I wanted some better black levels and refresh rates, so I bit the bullet on two different 43" panels. The first was a Philips with HDR1000 and 75hz freesync capability. The refresh rate was good. The sharpness was good - even for text. It was incredibly immersive to edit, game, and review content on a 43" huge but still sharp display. It is so much better than ultrawide, in my opinion at least. I ended up returning the Philips because of horrible light bleeding all around the edges. It extended nearly 4 inches towards the center of the display. Editing anything really dark had these unbearable light patches around the edges of the screen. It was such a shame, because the MVA panel is capable of some truly deep blacks, second only to OLED. Compared to my 27" 4k LG IPS monitor, the HDR1000 and difference in overall contrast are absolutely striking. After returning the Philips, like a dummy, I bought another MVA panel - the 43" Asus for even more money. It is better in two key ways: noticeably less backlight bleed. It's definitely better than the Philips, and the second amazing feature is the 120hz w/sync capability. Gaming on this thing is absolutely thrilling, and even though it's "only" HDR600, games that support it look great. This whole time, I've just wanted OLED, but the 48" has been even more expensive, and I feared it would be too big for my desk.

Now that I've gotten used to a 43" display on my desk, and absolutely love it, I think the jump to 48" will be hardly noticeable, and minimized further by even slimmer bezels on the OLED than on this MVA Asus panel.

Provided they don't cancel my preorder, and I can indeed pick it up this weekend (after an annoying 5 hour drive since the Dallas store has ZERO in stock), I will soon have my 43" Asus for sale, hehehe. It's a fine monitor, but I have always wanted to go OLED, and at $1000 for a 120hz it's simply too good to pass up.

Yeah. I can’t -- well, won’t — go back to IPS at this point. The vivid colors, true blacks, motion handling, impressive HDR performance, etc. of an OLED are just really striking when combined. I’ve had this since release and I look forward to using it every day because it’s like candy for your eyeballs. I was already really happy with my previous 55B7, but they really knocked it out of the park with the CX. It’s an upgrade in several areas, input lag (which was already good on the 7 series; now it’s great) and the 120Hz with G-Sync being the most noticeable. Plus a more ideal size for a monitor. I’m just extremely thankful that I could score a 3000 series card because not only was it needed for 4K performance in general, the HDMI 2.1 on it is needed to fully unlock the capabilities of these sets.

Between AVS Forum and the CX thread here in the Displays subforum; there are hundreds, if not thousands of us loving these displays. And yeah, you’ll be fine coming from a 43”! I gradually stepped my way up, too. I won’t list all of the monitors that I’ve owned but the last few were: 32”, 34” UW, curved 34 UW, 40”, 48” (LCD), 55” OLED, and finally, the 48CX. I think the people saying OMG THAT’S WAY TOO BIG are probably used to using something like a 27-32” panel -or- their desk setup is such that they aren’t able to get enough distance from the set. I have a big Ikea Galant corner desk that has plenty of room and it works great for me.

I know you’ll enjoy it! This is an end game display until MicroLED is affordable (assuming it’s everything they’re predicting with no major cons).

MC finally got back to me about the missing stand for the 55 I picked up. They shipped me one overnight and I now have the 55 setup in my 2nd home office with a 3060 driving it. Amazing picture although the size will take a little getting used to. That said, in my main office, I have a Odyssey G9 (49" super wide) driven by a 3090 (main gaming rig) and a Samsung 49" curved 4k driven by a GTX 950 in my workstation (mostly SQL coding and spreadsheet stuff), so adopting to those 6 extra inches is probably not going to be too bad.

The Samsung 49" curved 4K (JS9000) has been my main monitor since 2015 and served me well. Back then friends thought I was completely nuts for using a TV as a monitor, let alone a 49" one, lol. To this day, the IT group I work with all still have "tiny" 24/27 screens, so it is always a pain when I screen share since I have to select a single window at a time and size it to about 1/4 of the screen for a 1920x1080 ish resolution so that they can see it on their tiny screens. I keep telling them to just go get a "real" monitor/TV....

Hey I poo poo using a TV that big for a monitor. Now I have a 55" OLED with a 32" G7 setup on my desk. It is glorious. I might mount it on the wall in the future tho.

That's the debate now. Can I handle it sitting on my desk? It will take up quite a bit of room and be a little closer to my face than I'd like. By wall mounting it or buying one of those cool swivel stands, I get my desk space and distance to screen back, but at added expense and install labor. Also trying to line it up with a couple of 22" monitors that will be in portrait mode to either side of it. It is actually a bit of a dream/bucket list setup that I'm trying to achieve here. The 43" would have done the job really well. I'm hoping the 48" isn't so much bigger that it spoils my plans and measurements. Won't know for two more months though, as I'm still at my temporary location for a while yet.

Really grateful for all y'all's feedback on these sets though.

Crazy to think how much the OLED TV's are now versus 10 years ago (samsung was like 20 grand I think) and consider that they are also half the price of the most high end plasma's in 2013.

Edit: If I watched more TV or wasn't so happy with my Panasonc ZT60, id get that 65".

He he, I started out with a NEC 26" CRT TV back in college during the 80's, and moved to a rear projection 480P 65" back in the 90's). That was maybe $3,500 and I used it for the next 10 years. Then in the early 2000's I got a Panny 65" Plasma (pro model without speakers since I have a 7.1.4 sound system). That was about $6,500, heavy and used about 800 watts when running. Used that for 10 years, and in 2015, I got a LG 84" 4K TV (non HDR). That TV also set me back about $6,500 at the time. I plan to use it for about 10 years as well, and then upgrade around 2025. Be interesting to see what $6,500 can get you in 2025! Hopefully a wall of Samsung MicroLED modules. :)

The 48" turned out not to be too big as desktop PC monitor. I'd thought 42-43" was the goldilocks zone for a TV-as-monitor, but it doesn't feel much bigger than the 42"-43" Samsung TV's that I've used as monitors. It's a keeper and I should've just bought a long time ago. The score so far:

55" $999 - generic brown box - arrived with 84 hours. Returned because it was too big as a PC desktop monitor, too small for living room.
65" $1299 - generic brown box - arrived with 882 hours. It's a monster, screen is flawless, no dead pixels, but leaning toward returning due to runtime hours.
48" $999 - (opened) retail box - arrived with 3 hours. Flawless screen, no scratches or dead pixels.

These things really have everything - 120Hz, G-Sync, deep blacks and colors in HDR that are surreal. Unless the 77" drops to $2499 again, I can stop buying crap ... until 42".

Can't even get HBO Max on a $3k LG tv. Hard pass.
That what drives your TV purchases? It doesn't have HBO Max cause Samsung has a exclusive right to it atm. I am sure once it runs out a TV manufacturers will add it.

Going hard into OLEDs eh? They are so beautiful. I find the 55" a little big but it should be fine once I wall mount it above my desk. It really didn't look much bigger then the 48" when I looked at them side by side at MC before I brought it. After having a 65" for the past couple years I find 55" to be on the small size. I am going to move up to 77"~ when I upgrade in a few years for my main tv.

I am surprised that they haven't sold 1 55" at my MC all week. I might just go get one as use it as a monitor lol.
This comment didn't age well. Someone copy/pasted this deal to Slickdeals last week - right down to the exact formatting - and all of these TV's in every size at every location instantly sold out.

It's the nature of the beast, but bummer for forums members when it happens. Maybe this sub would be better off subscription/patreon-only so this stuff doesn't show up in google searches. I easily find 10-20 unique deals a week, but ...

I was at MC last week specifically looking to see if they had any 48” CXs in stock, saw that had 5 refurbs for the $999 price and decided to think about it (planning on doing a new build in May, don’t think my 970 could drive a 4K display).

24 hours later it was on SlickDeals and I’m regretting being stupid about it.

I mentioned it in a previous post, but if you missed out on a refurb and still want a CX, make an offer over on Greentoe. Offer the refurb price and you’ll likely get a counter offer for about $100 more or so. That said, there’s also no tax or shipping on GT, so you may even come out ahead of the MC refurb price for a brand new unit with full manufacturer’s warranty.

As an example, I offered $2500 for a 77” the other day, and they came back with $2850. With the tax rate in my area, that’s essentially like me walking into Best Buy and buying one for $2600ish. So, $100 more than a MC refurb, but it’s brand new with a warranty. I decided against taking the offer, but it’s definitely a very good deal, imo.

^^ Yup mid to late April stores want old stock out, hell I was at a Best Buy (no not for that) and some of the Sony panels were already off the wall, I asked the guy about it and he said that Sony "took the old ones" (aka open box sales) and didn't even wait for new models to come in stock.

Saw over on a Slickdeals, that BuyDig is selling "scuffed boxes" for fairly cheap, $2949 for a 77" CX, with "scuffed box" being super secret hand-shake code for "we want to sell this cheaper than MAP allows us to advertise, so they're 'damaged' goods"

Surprised it took so long. Not surprised they didn't last long once they caught wind. My Parkville MC still showing 5 of each size.

So by some miracle I was able to fit the whole 48" panel, including the box, into my 2011 mini cooper clubman. Just barely, but it fit! Made it from Houston back to where I'm staying for training (about 5.5 hour drive). Got it all put together and hooked up to my PC. It is a little bigger than the 43" panel it's replacing, but not by enough that it feels weird. The picture is exquisite. It is so amazing to have OLED finally on my desktop!

When I first saw the box, I was a little concerned. The box had quite a bit of signs of use. Been around the block a few times, so to speak! Thankfully, the TV inside was indistinguishable from brand new. Not a scratch anywhere. Plastic wrap covered all the stand assembly parts, and everything looked shiny and brand new. No batteries for the remote, which I thought was odd ...

So far I'm really happy with it, with one caveat - I can't enable anything above 60hz. Could this be because of my cable? I'm using the HDMI port on my EVGA 3090 Ultra. I also read somewhere that you must use HDMI port 4 to get 4k @ 120hz, but all four ports on the TV are labeled 4k 120hz...

They are magnificent. I intentionally waited to watch the latest Falcon and Winter Soldier until I got the new OLED set up. All I can say is WOW.

Too bad it doesn't have a displayport. My 43" Asus was able to do 120hz 4k with DisplayPort. It's a very capable interface cable. I'm going to swing by Walmart on my lunch break to see if a 2.1 cable does the trick.

Edit: Walmart doesn't have any 2.1 cables in stock apparently. I'll give best buy a try, but it looks like Amazon might be my only option.

I brought this cable and it works perfectly.

There are plenty on Amazon. Just read the reviews before buying.
$40 at best buy ... no thanks. Got one for $5 on Amazon. Will be here tomorrow with free prime shipping (so they say, at least...)
Literally just placed another order for one of those, because the blue one I ordered didn't specifically state HDMI 2.1. This one does. Sweet!! Thank you.

In case anyone is wondering how much the LG CXPUB 48 is being offered on https://www.greentoe.com I will tell you my experience. The set had an offered price of $1496.99 for a NEW set (which is the lowest price anywhere) I offered $999.99 which is the price of the refurbished set. The counter offer was $1329 to my door for the new set. To compare, if I bought the new set for $1496.99 here in Chicago the taxes bring the price to $1650 so I saved $321.

I am very happy with the refurbished 55" i got from MC for $999. It had almost 300 hours on it but it looked brand new. No issues with the image and working perfectly at 4k/120. I use a samsung g7 next too it for day to day stuff and game on the OLED. I just need to buy another cabinet to get my computer off the desk to make it fit.

Ok, my friend. What am I missing? Shiny new HDMI 2.1 cable connected from HDMI on 3090 to HDMI 4 on LG 48 inch OLED. Still can't find any settings anywhere that would shed light on this, but neither Windows 10 nor Nvidia control panel will allow me to select 120hz. How did you do it? Where did you actually change the settings to 120hz?
NVCP. Did you scroll past the TV resolutions down to the PC resolutions? There are two sets and I missed the PC resolutions at first. The TV resolutions won't let you select 120 Hz, while the PC ones will (assuming your cable allows it).

Not seeing any of that. What am I missing here? And does the LG panel require certain settings to make it work also?

Feel like there will be some settings on the tv you will need to set as well.

Right click desktop and select display settings. Click advanced display settings then display properties for the TV. Click on the monitor tab and see if it is in the refresh drop down.

The advanced display settings showed it was at 4k/120 at 10bit for me. You might have to dick around the TV setting. It just worked for me tho.

Nothing like that available to me. When I go to the old style display adapter settings and click open the monitor tab, even there it is limited to 60hz. I've tried three different cables on multiple ports now, two cables which claim to support 4k @ 120hz natively and have excellent reviews on Amazon. I am positive I am missing something still...

Okay, I had to enable the "Deep HD Color" or whatever it's called on the TV. When I enabled that before, it made the screen full of green gobbledigook, but it worked this time, and now 120hz is enabled.

Thanks for all the tips everyone! I think we got it worked out, but lunch break is over, so testing is gonna have to wait until later. Peace!

I was just going to post to enable that Deep HD Color toggle, as it sounded like what you hadn't done. Because once you flip that toggle, the PC side even changes to 4K 120Hz by itself.

Here's the link to a great CX setup and settings guide again:

I picked up 3 x of the 48" refurbs, waiting on custom metal legs from etsy to build my new custom desk. I did open one 48" and it is in brand new condition with 0 hours. I think I get 1 year warranty from LG. I also bought the refurb LG 55" C9 from MC last year as well and it's been amazing. I will take pictures of the tri-display and post it here in the coming weeks.

As far as getting a GPU, you best bet is to camp the line if you live near one. Fair warning, most of the line are miners. I understand this is not the reality anyone wants to hear and I know the social justice warriors will go absolutely insane but it is what it is. Get down there around 2 or 3am and just wait inline. Monday's, Thur's and Fridays. If you wait at least 5 - 6 times, you will be able to get a RTX 3060, 3060, 3070 and especially the RTX 3090. It's fairly common for the RTX 3090 to stay in stock up to 1 or 2 hours after opening. In addition to GPU's they also hand out tickets for AMD CPU's as well. Those are super hard to get as well.

Over the past several months I've been building up my mining rig from parts art MC. If you can, camp out the stores, MC does get a trickle of them weekly. If you have a 3xxx GPU, consider mining when you're not gaming. You can make $8 a day with a RTX 3080 and $10 to $12+ with a RTX 3090. Use the "light" setting within Nicehash to keep your vram in the 85 - 92c range, which is safe.

Hope this info helps.

The 48" is perfect for gaming. Can't wait to get all 3 setup.

Microcenter is amazing.

There is no "HDMI 2.1" cable. Stating the HDMI version in the marketing is actually discouraged by HDMI since everything is backward and forward compatible. What you need to look for is an "Ultra High Speed" cable which indicates one that can carry the full 48 Gbps bandwidth.
