So today i noticed my new Seasonic FOCUS PX-850 platinum psu developed a loud ass coil whine while gaming. It is pretty damn bad. Does the warranty cover coil whine. I didn't see anything on there site about it.

what are the rest of your specs, pushing it hard? and probably not, its not really a fault, just an annoyance.

3080 with a 5950x on a Gigabyte x570 master. Fully water cooled. I replaced a 750w Seasonic focus gold with this unit. There was no coil whine with that PSU. It is coming from the PSU. My system is pretty dead quite and can isolate it. It doesn't whine while mining. After I noticed it I tried several games and they all cause the whine as soon as the game loads up. It is out of the return window so I can't send it back to amazon.

yeah your gpu is workin it good then. try capping your fps to your monitor refresh. its not a defect, some will be nice and rma over it though so you could ask seasonic. or move you case farther away...

Its still functional technically. Most of the time coil whine is not covered, but I don't know about seasonic directly. I would just email CS and see.

No matter what refresh rate it whines as soon as I load up a game. I'm game or menu. Frame rat and board don't seem to change it. I'll probably just end up keeping it ::shrugs::

Yea... It is getting worse now. Just moving my mouse on the desktop makes it whine.... It is very noticeable when my system is dead silent at idle. It is weird. It only whines when on the desktop. When over any kind of window it doesn't whine. When I move the pointer over from the window over the desktop it starts whining. I sent a email off to Seasonic and will see what they will do.

Damn dude your having some bad luck lately! I would definitely get ahold of them and see what they will do about it. I just bought a focus px-850 a few days ago and i had better not have to worry about coil whine with it.
Ive built more rigs with seasonic psus in them than i can count and have never had any issues with coil whine (knockin on wood). I wouldn't tolerate it in one of my rigs being that silence is a key factor when buying a seasonic psu.

Newer nvidia drivers changed the default vsync setting for everything to ON. Try turning it off, and see if you still see whine on normal desktop. With Vsync forced ON w/ Windows desktop, there has been some weird behavior for some people.

It might be the PSU or it might be the GPU.

A different power supply can cause a GPU to whine, which didn't before.

It really sucks, because I never had problems with coil whine for most of my years of building PCs. Seems to be an issue in the past few years.

My Seasonic SS-1050XM2 PSU had some electrical noise from day one. It was a Jonnyguru review sample so I never gave it much thought other than that it was slightly annoying from time to time. In the last year though I started noticing it more often, although some of that probably comes with working from home and the rest of the case being very quiet. I could hear the Seasonic when opening pictures on the desktop. It was great having a PSU that ran completely passive most of the time except it really puts a spotlight on electrical noise. Not sure if this is common to Seasonic units or not, as I've had a few others over the years and do not recall them having that issue.

It was 7 years old anyways so I figured it was time for a change. Switched in the Super Flower replacement this week and I immediately noticed A) no coil noise, and B) even when the fan is running it's significantly quieter than the old one.
