Mad Max (2015)

Yeah, it's normal. You get the V8 as part of the story, which then unlocks the second tier of engines (each actual upgrade requires various things though)

Just curious....

I just got to the Pink Eye settlement place and my car and max are basically fully upgraded. The only part of the car that is lacking is the engine.

Is this normal? Or was I too much of a completionist on the way lol

I doubt it's normal. I did the whole game and my car is far from upgraded to max.
GJ btw.

Necroing because this is the main thread for this game...I'm just now getting into it and am very excited to play it. It runs fantastically well on my 6700K/1080Ti system at 4K and aside from a few initial frustrations surrounding the game's default configuration (which caused the mouse and cutscene sounds not to work, plus resetting to those wonky defaults every time I launched the game), it's been great so far. I'm currently catching up on this thread but took a break to post around pg. 10 when it devolved into a discussion about the price of the game and whether grey market key sites were OK or not. I paid $6.79 for this game though Steam and as far as I can tell, it's going to be worth every penny of that (I'd have been happy paying $20, easily).

Looks like certain aspects may get a little tedious after a number of hours, but that's no different than many open world games (or other games period).

Anyway, most who were interested in this game have probably played it by now but I felt it shouldn't get forgotten so I wanted to bump this and remind anyone who was thinking of picking it up that it's well worth it, particularly if you can pick it up when it goes on sale. If you enjoy open world games, post-apocalyptic settings, the Mad Max universe and especially the newer Fury Road movie, you'll almost certainly dig this.

This one is in my backlog, but I do have it installed on my main rig and I'm thinking that I might start it up soon.

I never did finish this game. I think I'm prolly 75% through it.

I can't think of any major flaw with the game. It is basically like Mordor without the nemesis system and the dialogue isn't as good.

I played through it in "one" sitting". To clarify that, I started it, then enjoyed it enough to keep playing until I was done.

It's not a difficult of grindy game, there are collectibles and areas to clear that help you progress in the game, but I found it fairly easy and enjoyable. It took me around 40 hours to finish, but the game performed well, looked good, and I was wanting to know where the story went, so I kept in it without hesitation.

There are fast travel points, I recommend capturing those to make travel easier, but you'll still need to drive around and capture a number of places to gain influence.

The gameplay didn't seem particularly unique, but I think I liked the post-apocalyptic setting, the story (because I grew up with Mad Max anyway), and graphics performance, so I was easily captivated.

It did get a bit tedious, mostly driving around in a nearly empty wasteland, but the content that was actually there was pretty good. I finished it, and that is saying something because I typically don't.

This game is boss. Playing it at 4K max settings on Vega CF and getting like 100fps. About 30 hours in and halfway through. I really like it, worth going back and playing.

It took me over 80 hours to get all the achievements. But I was so sick of clearing out camps when I was only about a third of the way to completion. The fighting is so tedious.

There is also a part near the end of the game that pissed me off. In order to get all of the scavenging locations, you have to go to a certain area and clear it out before triggering the objectives, or else you have to come back. There is a hole in the ground that literally disappears when you trigger the last objective in the area, and you have to go back to it the long way if you miss it the first time.

I have been kinda' just running around in this game...

I've recently discovered STEAM "In-Home Streaming", so I will probably run this game to the end & finally finish it!

Yeah, Steam In-Home Stream works great, provided you have a good home network. I use it to stream to my 1080p projector in my living room and it almost looks like it's running native.

Currently my go to game for time wasting. My budget T3500 and 1060 6gb runs it maxed at 1080p 60hz at 60fps consistant with Vsync turned on. Has more in it too

I got just about 90 hours out of the game, so more than worth it at that price. Story was excellent and gameplay is solid. Like most open world games, though, and can get repetitive.

How do you guys think it would run for me? (see sig)

Is a controller practically a requirement??

Unlike most 3rd person fighting games, you can actually control your character and the camera isn't constantly being blocked or disappearing (Batman Arkham City/Knight is a horrible offender of these). So if you'd like a fighting game done right, this is probably it. I can't deny that it did get repetitive and exploring was typically shallow for an open world game, but the environments were enough to make up for it. The views and terrian was fun enough to simply drive around and sight see.

As for performance it ran great on my OCed GTX 970, 4670K at 4GHZ. I am going to assume the IPC and lower clocks on your CPU may hold it back and your GPU is clearly slower than what I had, but I'd expect max settings, 1080, around 45 frame rates? I was getting around 60 or so.

GTX 960 will hold back a bit but I'd guess 45 frames or so if your running max.. I have a slower processor with a 1060 6gb and it's on Vsync and it locks at 60 frames with everything maxed.. It's a good game for a controller and an Xbox 360 wired controller is cheap

I clocked in 47 hours on Mad Max. At the beginning I was doing all the side missions but about halfway through I went for just the story missions. Really had a blast with it.

Should run well on a potato. TPU got over 60 FPS at 1920x1080 and 40 FPS at 2560x1440 on a GTX 960 with highest in-game settings. Your CPU may be a bottleneck, though.

i've had this installed forever and haven't ever ran it, will definitely pick up at some point

That's what happened to me when it came out - I installed it but got swamped with some projects and didn't have the time to put in beyond the initial tutorial stuff. When I finally had time for a full playthrough I was kicking myself for not getting to it sooner - game's a lot of fun.

Started another playthrough today because the RAGE 2 trailer put me in the mood for desert wasteland brawling. When you take a long enough break from your last playthrough of a game, it can feel fresh again.

FWIW, it took me 28 hours to finish. Did a lot of the side stuff but didn't grind for upgrades after finishing the game. I don't see it actually having 50+ hours of unique content, it'd just be driving around fighting random guys at that point.

I had to kill everything that I saw. I think I finished it without getting the last car upgrade or something though.

While this game had some issues (that I found largely related to a lack of additional difficulty options / progression) it's really a solid game. I'm excited to see this style of game but in the RAGE universe.

This game really is a lot of fun. Characters are great, Chum especially. Does get a bit grindy though, I feel like there should be less of that and more story. No complaints though!

Chumbucket is a fantastically done character. Great writing, great voice acting, even great mo-cap for his goofy movement. He's one of the most memorable characters in gaming I can think of.

Now on GOG for $5. The price lasts until April 5, when it goes up to $20.

This reply aged like milk.
It was down to $3.50 three years ago, so slightly underwhelming price, but it is still worth $5 for sure. Maybe one day I'll go back and replay it. Honestly I'd just prefer a sequel, though.

The price isn't noteworthy but the fact that it's on GOG without DRM might be for some, especially since it uses Denuvo and requires connection to a server to run(that has already gone a down a couple times that I'm aware of). For $5 I'm thinking of picking it up just to avoid running into that issue again.
