Hidden costs for Xfinity X1

Ah yes, and I mixed up the Taycan with the Macan. I haven't talked cars regularly in years now, so apologies for the goof. You would enjoy the new model S then, especially in plaid trim. I would be surprised if anything more exotic would have has much performance, although I do personally miss the feel of a good cabriolet or targa when driving the wife's 3 even though it would have less performance and the downside of regular maintenance, which is all I seem to be doing on all my cars.
And I'm still happy with my 2007 Cayman. But these days I notice that the engine doesn't shut down when I'm stopped, like my wife's hybrid. And I sure would like Carplay in that Cayman.

Me too...I still love my 2005 Boxster. Just a pain to worry about brake pads, engine oil, coolant, and all the other stuff that gets in the way with just enjoying the drive. I'm sure at some point Suncoast will have a Carplay kit that will work:

Yeah. Too bad that the Carplay kit they have is only for 2017-2020 models.

My Cayman is a totally different driving experience. I used to travel a lot and that included renting a car at the airport. Usually some low end "econobox." Made me totally appreciate the Cayman.

Yeah, it kinda surprises me they don't have it for our gens because it was when the Cayman was introduced and got its really strong following.

I know what you mean. After driving 'normal' cars and then sitting in a good one you feel alive again and realize how special that connection is. The joy of driving at its best. :)

The Porsche fit and finish is why I wanted the taycan instead of a model s. But I have been debating on it since I test drove the taycan turbo s. They even have a sport back coming. But if I get the taycan I will have to push my weekend car back a bit. If I went with a e63 amg wagon I can get both this year.

If the fit and finish is the only thing that separates the Taycan from the Model S, then Taycan for sure. For me, it was the tco experience of the Tesla line that's changed everything for me. The Porsche Turbo S models have always been wonderful. I still remember the techs at the local dealership telling me about how the Panamera Turbo S were changing the minds of some Carrera Turbo S buyers. I was able to rent a Turbo S when it came out for my cousin's wedding in Dallas and it was an absolute hoot.

I think if you got another c63 amg, you'd be putting miles on it again. :D A shooting brake edition of that would be completely sick. :)

I only had the c63 when I bought it and I was traveling a lot for work. I switched jobs since and I don't have to travel anymore also I get to work at home now. But when I get the Taycan or E63 I'll have an SUV and a weekend car coming in to split miles.

Makes sense. I like distributing miles as well--keeps the whole fleet young. :D Still, all those oil changes, brakes jobs, and misc stuff...ugh. I always have a long list for each car of stuff to do...except for the Tesla.

Yea, thats why I sold my C63 before. I was spending probably 5k a year just on maintenance. Tires, brake pads, fluid changes. Gas was probably $3.2 a gallon and I got like 14mpg the whole time I had it. I also always did the services at the dealer so I could get a loaner. It all added up and then I got married and my wife had $300k in medical student loans and a mortgage that came with her. Best investment ever don't get me wrong but I do miss that W204. But I have a lot to look forward to.

I do all my own maintenance so it's just a lot of time and TLC. Mainly because the maintenance departments around here are a joke--missing bolts because they're too tough to get to, incorrect torque specs, etc. And the last thing I'm going to do is PAY someone to mess up my car. I cringed when I had to have the rear main seal on the Boxster replaced under warranty after my best friend the lead Porsche tech had left for us to start a company together. He was able to start the job but another guy finished up the job. I had my friend review the work just to make sure everything looked right since he knew the stuff most techs leave off because 'it's too hard'.

I've never minded the cost of parts though or fuel as I chalk those up to 'wear items'. Like tires--I usually buy the highest performance I can afford because in certain situations, those tires will save you from something that would have cost you much more. :) And brake fluid--I only get Castrol SRF even though it's more expensive than the normal high-performance stuff. And fuel, and brakes, lol. These are all 'wear items' so I never cared how much I spent on them since they're all critical for performance and safety. Another reason I do the maintenance myself so I can double check things like brake caliper piston seals for leaks or evidence of previous leaks--all the little stuff that local techs here wouldn't even think of moreless do.

And like you, it all ended when I got married too, lol. Well, not really her fault--it was my parents that found themselves upside down 7-figures when the economy tanked and I stepped in to help. My wife had some student loans and her family overseas to care for, but she's also a career woman and I knew with my support she could get where she is today. Now if I can only finish off the last of my parents problems, we'll be okay and I can think about myself and my passions for the first time in nearly a decade. I feel so sad when I think of my poor cars and my cameras. :( But soon, hopefully soon. I can completely relate to being the best investment ever though--I've had to grow a lot since I got married and it's been a worthwhile investment. But man I still do miss every weekend in the local car scene.

Man, life is hard sometimes. But to your great credit, you have your priorities right. As much as I like my Cayman and my Nikon DLSR + glass, I like my wife and (grown) kids a lot more.

Thank you for the kind words. :) Yeah, it's been pretty brutal the last few years. I try to live life being mindful of avoiding big regrets. There will always be regrets or what ifs as you look back on your life, but if you took care of the most important things to you in your life, you will be happy with your life. I'm balancing it all right now on a razor's edge and that's not fun, but I know when I'm done the small cuts and scars will be worth it in the long run. :)

I've not had the chance to experience kids or a family, and frankly I've always been scared of it because it's a lot of responsibility. But I know my wife will want that after this phase of work is over, so I'm pondering it. Our married friends with kids say I'll be a great dad, but it's still daunting to say the least. Life is a fascinating journey when you're able to step back from it and see it for the miracle that it is. :)
