Well, with AMD getting more wafers from Apple, actually, that might lead to an increase in product availability from Nvidia, assuming it hits the commercial market, anyway.
 
I gave up on the Shuffle after like 2.5-3 months trying every time, and BB bot drops and just bought a PowerColor Red Dragon 6800 for $1225.
No sense in just looking at my new PC build with no card and equipment devaluing till 2022 or later and not being able to use my gaming PC
 
Or, one of those moments I'm glad I'm a console gamer. I absolutely sympathize with PC gamers who just want to have a reasonably futureproof GPU... but also happy to have a PS5 I can use right now.

(Yes, I know the PS5 is also constrained, but it's easier to buy without paying a ridiculous markup.)
 
I guess one good thing about gaming console is that you do not need to compete against bitcoin miners
I think even the scalper prices are quickly dropping, making it less desirable to them

I don't see an end to GPU woes, between scalpers and bitcoin miners buying them up, hardly anything is left for us gamers :cry:

Perhaps they just have not thought about it yet - the gpu is AMD... Couldn't they strip it out and mine off it?
 
You can always go back to 1080p gaming on 4GB cards, since they're "too small" to be useful to miners now.

I was going to make a joke here about Radeon Fury cards being cheap but they are apparently selling for $250+ on ebay. GTX 980 cards are in the same price area.

But... recently sold listings on ebay paint a sad picture.

R9 380s selling between $100 and $150, those are 4GB and have pretty good performance at 1080p. That wouldn't be bad, the 380 was a nice card. Not worth trying to hunt down a 380X though, not at asking prices.

RX 570 4GB cards anywhere between $150 and $250, and were generally (iirc) 25% or so faster than a 380X. GTX 970 around the same price as 4GB 570 cards.

It's unreal. You could actually go build the same gaming system now that you could have built in late 2015 - 6 year old GPUs and processors - and it will cost you almost the same as when those parts were new.

Anybody who was still sitting on an i5-4670k/4690k and a GTX 970, which was a really popular mid-range config at the time, has got to be feeling pretty good about resale value right now.

Yeah, I've managed to get XSX and two PS5s relatively easily. RTX 3080, not so much.

Unfortunately, this is not the year of AAA gaming builds. However, there are a ton of older games, and newer less intensive games, that are well worth playing. Last night we were playing Orcs Must Die 2 and having a blast. That will run on an ultrabook with a Broadwell.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a rush to jailbreak the Xbox and ps5 just to be able to mine on them.

My Plan is to get my Covid shot this week so I can live long enough to buy a 3080ti from a scalper.

Serious note: the second shot made me very sick for a couple days. Some people react harder than others.

Different note: This is also a good time to get into old hardware retro gaming. The other day I hooked up a CRT to 980ti and played some Quake 1...as it was meant to be played. Today I hooked that CRT back up to a both a Pentium 233MMX and Pentium 3 - 933. I decided to build up the 933 as a Windows 98SE machine. It's getting a GeForce TI 4200 64mb, 2X Voodoo 2s in SLI, and Aureal Vortex 2 SQ2500 sound card. Combining it with 256MB PC133 and hopefully a Raptor 10K 74GB HD if I can trick it into working). Whole thing barely cost $400 including shipping.

And I also get to watch the glorious Windows defragger go square by square. Not even joking. 4 of us were just staring at it; mesmerized.

I've been doing the same, but with old console games & emulators. Recently put a Raspberry Pi 4 into a Playstation 1 and made my own Playstation Classic with NTSC versions of the games since Sony doesn't have a clue what they're doing. I also finished up putting a Odroid N2+ into a Japanese Sega Saturn.

I'll probably start on trying to bring my old Athlon system back to life that has my Gefore 2 GTS 32meg or put my Diamond Viper 770 in it. I'd love to hook up my old Samsung Syncmaster 955DF to it but I just don't have the room for it, my uncle is currently storing it for me.

I hear that. This chip shortage "Or whatever you wish to call it" is giving us a chance to go back and discover games that we never played. From my experience there are a hell of a lot more great games to play from the past than there are in the present.

And those old games can often be had real cheap.
www.Instant-gaming.com I found a few games under $2. Im sure there are other sites with titles cheap, but Ive gotten a few there recently.

Isn't this what we have DosBox for? Runs most of the old school games just fine on a modern machine.

DOS BOX is nice but it’s the console like equivalent in old school gaming. Very restrictive. However, CRTs can help a lot with that.

Nothing is the same as original hardware.

I grew up staring at the pages of Computer Shopper, and hunting down the right modem string code to play Warcraft 2 over dial-up direct connection. When someone says “200mhz Pentium” some part of me still thinks it’s fast. To be able to build what would have been a $4000 PC for a few hundred dollars to relive one of the most unique gaming periods is priceless.

20 years from now, people might be doing the same with a 9900K and 2080ti to look at the birth of Ray tracing as we are seeing it now.

Ive gamed on some interesting consoles looking back. Commodore 64, Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Magnavox Odyssey, Intellivision, ColecoVision 82, all of the Nintendos, Playstations, and Xboxes, most of the Segas.

When I was like 6 or 7 I had a handheld game that took cartridges called Microvision. My favorite cartridge was Bowling. I remember playing it in the car all the time when we went on long trips to go camping.
The oldest game system I ever had was called 2-XL. It was 8-track player based with a few (4 I think ) buttons to choose answers to the quizzes and questions. I remember, press A-B or C now lol.
See you got me all nostalgic. There were many more handheld games later and other tings I dont remember. I didnt own all those consoles, but I played at friends houses on some and some were my moms lol.

My mom is still a gamer at 67 lmao and is the reason I am.

One of my fondest memories is sitting as a toddler playing Atari 2600 with my father. There was a tank battle game, and Barnstormer. He also used to hold me up as I played Paperboy at my local Pizza Hut.


My father never really got much past the NES era. He played the hell out of Jaws though. These days he “plays” flight sims and is even in a clan. 3 monitors, head tracking, custom rudders and controls, secondary computers and tablets for maps/checklists; he’s got the whole thing. You would think he would be bored of flying by now since he actually was a pilot for his career and flew everything from Cessenas to the 777, but he’s playing everyday.

My mother is a puzzle game addict. However, she did play Zelda 2 on the NES. She even hand drew out a map in ridiculous detail of the final dungeon.

Now my 2 year old sits in my lap as he “plays” Astro on the PS5.

My wife thinks it’s cute but kicks us both out so she can play Assassin’s Creed, JRPGs, and whatever the newest non-horror game is. Don’t worry...she games just as much on PC as console. She’s becoming a high refresh rate snob LOL.

Me? I’ll see you on Salty Base Maps East in Battlefield 1 and on The Gamer Way discord. Every night. LOL

I was thinking to put mine back in, but I took it out a couple years ago because I could not find drivers to keep my system happy back then.

Please tell where are you finding safe current drivers to download?

That sucks if they dont support older cards driver to force you to get a new one.
 
I was in Microcenter last Friday and I watched them put out 10 3080's and 10 3090's without warning anyone. They wheeled them in on a big ass cart and were about to start putting them in the glass cases.
Enough people noticed what was happening and a line quickly formed. The whole lot was sold out in about 15 minutes and only one 3090 actually made it into a case before it was immediately sold.
