So I got a new AMD Ryzen 7 5800X CPU. Want to know if this air cooler will be enough to keep it cool

Hi all. So in the last 3-4 days I purchased an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X CPU from Newegg. I am planning on installing this into my system during the spring. Before I got this CPU, I picked up this air cooler from Enermax: the Enermax ETS-T50 AXE RGB air cooler. Listed at Newegg here: https://www.newegg.com/enermax-ets-...k-argb/p/N82E16835214102?Item=N82E16835214102. I plan on leaving the CPU stock with no OC but I do plan on running my DDR4-3600 RAM from G.Skill on its DOCP setting. Will the air cooler I mentioned be enough to properly cool this CPU? Or should I get a stronger air cooler than this? Thanks in advance for your answers and advice. Out!

I use a Coolermaster 212 Black Silent edition on mine and it works absolutely fine. I have no overclock, and it stays cool.

thats probably fine, especially with no OC. It will also depend on your case airflow. I have a Dark Rock from be quiet and it does a good job at cooling, but with my PBO/curve optimizer OC, it will reach up into the 85-90 degree range with Cinebench multicore tests. However, for gaming it is usually 60-70 range. Idle is 30-40 range. Pics of my case with air cooler at link below. Hope this helps.

I think you'll be fine. I don't know if that HSF would REALLY cool a 230W CPU, but the 5800x is closer to 150W peak load, so you should be fine.

For that kind of money you can get a much better cooler. Something like Mugen 5 linked below.

Would help to know what case & case fans, motherboard and RAM you are using. Then we can make suggestions we know will fit. ;)

Hi everyone. Thanks for the advice and guidance so far. doyll makes a great point. I should share a few items about my machine to help you all find me a great fit for this air cooler (in case I decide to look elsewhere from the Enermax ETS-T50 AXE). So the case I am using is a Phanteks Eclipse P400A mid tower ATX case. Fans I am using are 2X Noctua NF-A14 PWM Chromax 140mm fans in the front of the case (as intake fans) and 1X Noctua NF-F12 PWM Chromax 120mm fan in the rear (as exhaust fan). I also am using an ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Hero X570 motherboard with 32 GB (2X16GB) G.Skill Trident-Z Neo DDR4-3600 CL16 RAM. Hope that helps. Thanks and until next time I am out!

I don't think enough people watch the video i linked earlier in the thread. The cooler RareAir23 mentioned originally looking at is apparently incredibly good. Definitely worth a shot for the price.

it will be a slight step up from the stock cooler, should let pbo do its thing fine.

wrong thread? 'cause i dont see any videos in here...

P400A cooler clearance is only160mm which limits choices considerably. NF-A14 front intakes with all openings in mounting panel not covered by them blocked off so the air they push into case cannot leak around in front to go in circles instead of on through case and out will give you plenty of case airflow. I would remove all PCIe back slot covers to increase exhaust venting around GPU. This gives better front to back airflow, so cooler air reaching both CPU and GPU coolers, so fans can spin slower while keeping things cool and quiet. You might find link below to basics of case airflow of interest:
https://hardforum.com/threads/basic-guide-to-improving-case-airflow.1987938/

Enermax ETS-T50 AXE is 163mm tall with front of fan 52mm from center of CPU, meaning it likely will not clear side cover, but it's 140mm fan behind your G.Skill Ttrident-Z Neo RAM.

G.Skill Trident-Z Neo is 43mm tall so needs 38mm clearance from cooler base to bottom of fins / fan if front of fan is more than about 55mm in front of center of cooler. Scythe Mugen 5 is 48mm to front of fan from center CPU so will fit no problems.

Your ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Hero X570 has about 91mm center CPU to near side of x16 PCIe socket giving plenty of room for even wider coolers.

Hi all. Well, I decided for this one to order the Scythe Mugen 5 Rev. B (with AM4 socket compatibility). Should be arriving today from Newegg. Thanks again for all the advice and answers you provided. Out!

I have the Mugen 5 Rev. B on an i7 10700 non-k, doing permanent turbo to 4.6 on all cores. And the temps are solid. 20 minutes of video encoding and only one core broke 70c slightly, at 71c. Coretemp was reporting about 212w while that was happening. A 5800x will run cooler.
