Thank you for being a Bucks member, and a valuable part of our eBay community. We’re reaching out to tell you about upcoming changes to the eBay Bucks program.
After careful consideration, we’ve decided to retire the 1% earnings reward on everyday purchases starting April 1st, 2021. The good news is, you will continue to receive bonus Bucks offers, so you can keep earning.
And, beginning April 1st, the Bucks you earn will have a 12-month redemption window, so there’s even more time to score those big savings.
You can also earn extra rewards through the eBay Mastercard®, earning up to 5x points on eBay purchases.‡ Now through March 11th, 2021, open a new eBay Mastercard, spend $250 in the first 30 days and receive a $50 statement credit.* Click here to learn more.
We hope you will continue to enjoy savings and deals on the brands you love. Plus, all the exciting finds you’ve come to expect on eBay: from the rare to the retro to the right now.
Sincerely,

I just posted this in the other ebay taxes thread. Sad to see ebay getting worse every year.

eBay seems to mess up their invoices and billing too much for how established their company is.

If you are a seller and your customer requests a refund/return, unless you contact eBay you will not be credited for the final value fee. This is policy. If you contact them, they will refund you without any hesitation, but if you don't contact them you just lose. This is shady, and should be automated.

On Friday night I created a month long eBay store to take advantage of cheaper fees (like half) to sell off a little stock pile of stuff I've accumulated. Their fee structure is plainly listed for store owners. For instance computer stuff is 4% with a store. I sold a 1080TI graphics cards and noticed my final value fee was 8.5% instead of 4%. I contacted them through chat and they immediately fixed it, no trouble given - but why isn't that automatic? Why do I have to police their fee structure to make sure it's right in an automated system. The CSR didn't get me a answer as to how that could happen. He just said yeah this should have been 4%, I'll give you the refund, and he did - promptly. But it reeks of shady. Their fee structure is already too high, IMO. Paypal, or the payment service is the party with all the risk. Their fee structure is ~3%, but eBay likes to make their cut 8-10% ish. Taking away the 1% ebay bucks credit won't really move the needle, but it's one less perk to shopping there.

I basically agree. Selling on eBay has too many caveats unless you already have a business up and running (that you can literally use to write off loss) and/or the things you're selling you're just trying to get any money out of and you're not necessarily caring about getting maximum value just at least some value.
Otherwise on high-priced items it's too easy to get screwed. As a buyer it's just another option for people looking for used stuff (CL, FB Marketplace, OfferUp, etc) - as basically the entire system is geared towards you.

Ebay keeps getting worse. Managed payments is about .35% cheaper, but you often have to wait 3-5 days for a payment to process. PayPal was instant. And I think ebay will up the fees very soon, they're more likely to up them than PayPal.

Ebay bucks used to be 8-10%, now it is typically 5%.

Very true. eBay is very unfriendly to sellers

eBay is going to be raking in record profits sucking in all these stimulus dollars here soon. They won't even notice an extra 1% in profits. What the hell. :(

Typical, unfortunately. Lots of CC companies pull the same crap - offer a "brand new and exciting" cc with decent cash back or points, then water it down over the years. See it happen many times.
Same here - got some excitement going with the bucks, then make it worse and worse over the years until it gets cancelled altogether. First they reduced the percentage, then made the minimum redemption about $5, blah blah blah. At 1% it was so small that I stopped caring a while back. Oh well.

I used to get decent discounts with the ebay bucks but a few years ago, they pretty much stopped sending you any emails that you got bucks to spend. So I started missing out of actually using them because I had no clue I had them. Like they purposely kept it hidden and didn't want you to know.

My experiences with eBay in the past year have been significantly worse than in the past - both as a buyer and a seller. From the buying standpoint, I suppose it was just bad luck - bought one item intentionally misrepresented, another where the seller packaged the item so badly that it broke in shipping. In the former situation, the seller was some big ebay store and refused to issue a refund or communicate at all. Took 4 separate phone calls with ebay support over several weeks to get my money back. Then, as a seller, managed payments costs about the same as paypal did, but now with extra steps, like waiting to receive your money, and required me to open a separate checking (no way was I giving ebay my "real" bank account). Now they are effectively removing ebay bucks on top of everything else. I'm starting to wonder if ebay's management are intentionally trying to sink the company? At this point I want to jump ship to another platform if I can find one.

As someone who likes to GreedBay from time to time? Yes. it's rough as a seller, however if I can make 1,000% mark up? it's hard not to try for it. I know every item I list runs the risk of being scammed. I've been fairly lucky so far. I just factor the loss of an item as part of the risk.

I still use eBay for all selling I do. It's really the place where you're gonna get the highest dollar possible for whatever it is that you're selling. Whether it's cookware, shoes, PC parts... anything remotely collectible... If it's in good condition and you take good photos, you'll get close to new price from somebody if you're patient.

I also signed up for the eBay credit card recently. Pretty decent rewards if you spend a decent amount of money there. And that's not hard with how many sellers have eBay stores. NewEgg running a special on something? I'll buy it at their eBay store for the same price in order to get 5% back with the credit card.

The only issues I tend to run into lately are non-paying bidders. But the process resolves. The few times I've had issue with negative feedback from someone that really wasn't warranted or who themselves had pretty much zero feedback and then flaked on me, getting it removed was a phone call away to a US-based service rep.

eBay can suck. But it can also not-suck. There's a lot of stuff you can do to make it easier on yourself, especially as a seller.

What about high value item such as GPUs? Are you worried about buyer remorse/return? eBay has a generous 30-days return window and PayPal has a ridiculous 180-days return window. Aren’t you worried people will buy it, use it, and when stock gets much better, return it and buy new from retailers?

I have a 1080 ti and 1070 ti that I am about to sell but would rather sell them to people with good feedback here.

The six month return thing is a worry with eBay. I’ve read horror stories of someone selling a GPU, and six months later someone returns it for a full forced refund claiming it was defective. This happened to my cousin. So I know they aren’t just stories. My cousin won’t even consider using eBay again. I’ve not had that happen to me. I’ve done probably a thousand transactions on eBay and only two stick out as really bad. eBay has protected me for the most part from bad buyers.

*shrugs*

I have been on eBay for 19 years and have almost 600 feedback -largely from selling.

The number of problems I've had can be counted on one hand and I haven't had a negative feedback left for me that stuck since the 2000s.

It's not as easy for a deceptive buyer to return something as you're making it sound.

What I hate about Ebay is the lack of customer support. I was trying to list some old GPU's due to the recent boom with crypto. I hadn't sold anything in a year and when I went to go list them. I was limited to $10 in sales for the month. There was no 800 number to call and no online chat available.

WOW, joined Aug 2006 and this is your first message???

There is a phone number to call for live support, they just bury it in a hard to find place but their CS is actually fairly good. Any problems I've had I immediately call and it has always ended up working out in my favor.

I've had 1 really bad experience and it was probably 03 where someone paid with a stolen CC and I got shanked for paying it back even though I did everything correctly. 1200 dollar was killer for me, spent it and then 30 days later I get told I need to pay it back. I've sold lots of stuff and never had terrible issues or at least the issues ended in my favor.

No my account was banned for some weird reason and I just got it back today. Got banned for "spam" which I didn't even do. Had to create a second account to get this account back. Don't know why it reset my messages to "0".

Did you look... at all?

There is no other large e-commerce company with better/faster support options.

Yes, spent a couple hours on Ebay's homepage and still couldn't get a hold of anyone. Eventually found a reddit thread where several people ran into the same issues. Had to pretend to close down my account and was able to online chat with someone to resolve my issues. Lots hoops to jump thru just to get a hold of customer service.

I sold my 1080ti on a forum probably for 25% less than what I would get on ebay, but ebay is a buyer scammer paradise, just wasnt worth the risk.
