Intel Core i5-10600k on sale for 175.99 at B&H. (6c/12t)
Intel Core i5-10900k on sale for 399.99 at B&H. (10c/20t)

You can go straight to B&H website or find the deal on slickdeals.net. Quite a good sell if needing a current processor, though assuming they are on sale to clear shelf for the 11th gen coming out later this month.
 
Yeah, discounts right before the next generation launches are normal.

Well to be fair, intel prices are alot easier to swallow in the last 6 months. That 10600k is at a super nice price.

Has anyone else how oddly they price the 10500? I mean on the B&H page it's priced higher than the 10600. :D

^^ This.. and my old 8086k is still serving me well.

Do we have any good scuttlebutt if Rocket Lake supposed to blow the doors off Comet Lake?
 
From what I understand Intel is trying to be super aggressive with pricing vs AMD right now despite AMD shortages to claw back market share that Ryzen has been chipping away at.

At least SOMETHING is a good deal right now. I was able to pick up a 10700k + z490 mobo combo on Newegg for a good deal. They had a good 10900k + mobo combo as well for about $65 more but they ran out of the motherboards.
 
Tempting ... but if you just bought a PCIe 4.0 graphics card....

Waiting to see what the Intel prices look like in April 2021.
 
While a good price, just note you will paint yourself into a corner with no future upgrade path.

Edit: n/m completely missed the mark and didn't realize this was also LGA1200, for some reason I thought this was 1151, so you still do have some upgrade headroom. Coffee lake, comet lake... my mind got confused

TBH PCIE 4.0 at this point is only worth it for PCIE SSDs. I’m not sure how much I could tell between 3,000 MB/s and 4,000 MB/s, coming from a 500 MB/s SATA I’m blown away by this PCIE 3.0 m.2 drive I recently got. No indication that it’s a bottleneck for graphics yet. You can upgrade to an 11 gen Intel Processors even though 14 nm +infinity is not looking like much to get excited about. I think the hype over the new AMD processors (price premium and scarcity to deal with) is a little much although I’m thrilled Intel once again has serious competition.

There has almost never been a serious upgrade path on any motherboard I’ve owned so just face the fact that you will fork out $200+ for a new motherboard when there’s a new processor worth upgrading to. 11th gen is not looking like much of an improvement 10% or so. And limited to an 8 core part.
 
The limited upgrade paths for Intel motherboards appears par for the course. You receive one to two processor generations or refreshes with most Intel chipsets. The 10700K and 10850K CPU's provide a great value if you do not need the latest PCIe 4.0 interface as well as USB.
 
Yea I just built a buget rig with a 9600K for less than $500 complete including a small nvme drive and it's fine for a small workstation. I'll surely find a better cpu eventually as needed.
