RX 580 8GB RAM and 1440 gaming?

I purchased the Acer ED32OQR EDO Series 32" 1080p display from Wal-Mart as part of there Black Friday sale at $155 and here it is in display port at 165Hz paired with a RX 570 8Gb in 1080p Med settings with 144fps cap .. I think 1080p is more in line with an RX 580 my self and 1440p is more in line with an RX 5700 / XT .

Yes, you are right about the RX580 being a 1080 card. We'll see how t runs the games i want to play and then I'll have to decide whether or not to upgrade. Congrats on your new monitor. I just got my Gigabyte 32" 1440 165hz a few months ago and i love the 32" screen.

Just adding a bit here as the 580x is still reall solid out there especially with crypto prices. You can always run the 27" at 1080p where an engine will not allow you to scale down. Also if your wanting to dig in to a lot of games you can drop features to lower settings to get very passable performance. Honestly find a game that does both res at playable rates and see if you can really tell a difference. With all of that being said I just upgraded my Kids 570x 8gb rig to a 1080gtx fe for minimal cost. I was lucky to find an openbox 1080 at MC for $260 and was able to sell the 570x for around 200 After fees (ebay and paypal are evil).... So there are paths... and luck. Also the 3060 and 6700 are supposed to be in the 300 ish msrp but they are going to get gouged...

Yeah I'll just keep lowering settings if I have to. I'm sure things will still look better on a minimum graphics settings at 1440 than they would at a high setting at 1080. I'm running a 32" though not a 27." Funny, in 2013 I thought the sweet spot was about 25". I had just gotten a new ASUS 25.5" VK266 1920x1200 WUXGA monitor. I thought that was PLENTY big. Now, I think 32" is the sweet spot. lol

I'll see how the games I want t play run with the 580 and go from there. One of the games I trying to get back into is a 2012 graphics engine and at 1440 it does fine. The other one is going into open play (second version of Mortal Online) and uses the Unreal 4 engine, so that will be a stretch at 1440, at least for higher settings. When Mortal Come out live, I'll probably only be playing that. It looks like I might even have to update my RAM to 32GB. I'll see how it does first, since I have an M2 Samsung 970 drive, hopefully any page file writes will be fast enough. I think if I had to choose I'd be better off updating my 580, not RAM.

Anything AMD out there right now worth updating to from the 580 that doesn't cause me to eat rice and beans for 3 months?

So I've been looking at RX580's and such on ebay and other sites and you could probably sell yours for at least $400. I think now is a good time to sell it while crypto is keeping used prices high so you can get the best price and then put it towards something else. Unfortunately everything you'd want to buy is hard to find, so it might be best to wait until you have a replacement card before selling. If you have a microcenter near by I would try visiting multiple times after 10:30 in the morning on Tues-Fri and seeing what they have. I've been going frequently for minor stuff and there were 10+ 6000 series cards there just a week or two ago in the middle of the afternoon. Since the new AMD 6000 series doesn't do as well at crypto mining as the nvidia 3000 series they're not quite as hard to obtain. There are also often loads of 1660's as well for about $300-330. I haven't seen 5700xt's recently but when they were in stock back in Dec. they were selling for much less than the current ebay prices, so grabbing one of those and then selling your rx580 sounds like the best plan. If you can spend $500 or so for a GPU though, you could shoot for a 6800xt and then sell your rx580.

Thats funny... I was also looking at what Sapphire RX 580 Nitro's were going for...and a large majority of them were over $400..
🤣

What about AMD cards? Also, 6GB or 8GB RAM? I'm going to sell my 580 ASAP. I don't need it for crypto and I need a better card for 1440 gaming. I'll sell it now, ut in my old car, and wait til prices of cards comes down again. I can wait.

Right now any card at about 4GB and below has tanked in value because the Etherium DAG is larger than 4GB now. So 8GB models are selling at a premium ($400+) while the same model card with 4GB of VRAM might only go for $150 each. 6GB cards should also work for mining so their values might be high, but it also depends on other factors so it's hard to tell. For example, a 6900xt mines about 50% less than a 3080 even though their gaming performance is very similar in gaming and the 6900xt has more memory. AMD's last gen cards like the RX470/480/580 cards as well as the 5700, 5700XT, Vega, etc. are good so despite their relatively poor gaming performance they're still selling for a lot due to mining. I think this is putting pressure on even cards that aren't good for mining, because everyone priced out of these used cards is desperate for anything they can get. Anyway, I would try to avoid buying older cards at high mark-ups and try to get something new for around MSRP to make the best use of your money.

I mean for replacing my 580. My 580 is the ASUS ROG Strix RX580 8GB model. I want to sell it now. So I was asking, for gaming, 8GB? Also, are AMD's latest cards as good as nVidia's? If so, which?

I need to check my Papal account. Last time I used it was 2013. Gonna post up my card here ASAP.

AMD's latest cards are quite good, but the prices on them are way up. If we still had launch prices AMD cards would be quite competitive. Like an RX 6800 went from $560 at launch to $800+. NV stuff is up too, but not as much. Of course both are OOS everywhere. NV is better on price/perf for the latest stuff at current prices from AIBs. For 1440p I'd be thinking 3060Ti or 3070. 3080 if you feel like splurging. If AMD's prices hadn't gotten jacked up an RX 6800 or RX 6800XT (also a splurge) would be a good choice. The pecking order is roughly RTX 3600Ti < RTX 3070 < RX 6800 < RX6800XT/RTX3080 (these two are pretty close) < RX 6900XT < RTX 3090.

If you feel like hunting (signing up for Discord notifications, lots of clicking, etc.) the best deal on a new generation card is the Founder's Edition NV cards at Best Buy. They're still at MSRP. The other vendors have all run up prices since the start of the year. Maybe also built by AMD cards from amd.com. I haven't checked that since I landed a card in December and am out of the market so I don't know if they're still putting cards up occasionally. I've just been poking Newegg, Best Buy and Microcenter occasionally to see what's up.

Ah, ok. If you can find one at MSRP, the cheapest decent upgrade would probably be a 5700/5700xt I guess. I think they're getting more difficult to find in stores though, so maybe realistically a 6800 or 6800xt. Basically if you see any of these in stores you should probably buy it if you can afford it because otherwise you might not get a chance for a long time.

Well, the price will come down. I can wait. I have a Radeon HD7950 880 MHz 3GB DDR5 circa 2012 card I can run at 1080p playing Mortal II if I need too. It will run it ok at low settings. It will be good enough until the prices come down. I just want to bag that $400.00 for the 580 so I CAN have enough t get what I really need. I jsut put a local Craigslist add for it at "$400, no trades, firm, cash on transfer of goods."

I'm going to log into my Paypal account to see if it is still active so I can place it for sale here too.
