doesn't post or have video output.

Was working fine before I installed the hybrid cooler and works fine with 1080ti.
I reset the BIOS, reseated the card and cables a few times, still nothing.

EDIT: Installed the Hybrid Cooler on my RTX 3080. After I installed it, I get a code 97 on the motherboard and it doesn't post.
I tried different slots, and then put the stock cooler back on and it still won't post, gets stuck on Code 97.

I put my 1080ti I still have in the PC and it posts and works fine.

Card probably dead. Which motherboard? Did you look up what the code is? I recently put a block on a 3080 ftw 3 and would stop on error 62 with no display. Card was dead since it would post fine with a different card. Try another GPU if you have access to one.

He left out a lot of useful information but states "...and works fine with 1080ti"

Indicates to me that the card he put the cooler on was something else and he then tried a 1080Ti in the board which works.

Sounds like the card you put the hybrid cooler on is dead. You could always remove it, inspect and try to re-install.

Have heard of this happening to a few other people. Not sure what the cause could be other than an unintended short somewhere.

Oh. I read it as he put it on a 1080ti. I looked it up and code 97 is gpu error. Try reseating in the slot. More then likely you shorted or broke something on the gpu putting the block on. It is worth removing and inspect the card and give it a good cleaning with alcohol and see if she works. If is a evga card they will likely replace it no issues like they did with mine.

Sounds like you dun fucked up something in the installation. Could be a short or scratch somewhere. What did you use for thermal interface?

Read on another forum that sometimes people overtighten the screws putting the cards back together and it shorts the card out. Might try to check that.

This is true. The tolerances are so tight that it is very easy to do. I ripped the head off of one of the back plate screws trying to put my 2080 Ti back together.

kit had thermal pads and TIM already pre-installed.

If he modified this card himself even with a EVGA factory water block will EVGA still honor the warranty on the original card?

Yes. They did with my alphacool block for evga 3089 ftw 3 two weeks ago. Their warranty allow to have wb installed on it. You just have to put the original cooler back on before sending it back. I am sure they can deny the warranty if there is obvious damage to the gpu. They didn't even question the temper stickers being removed

I’ve seen EVGA say (in the US at least) the stickers on the cards are to alert them if the card was opened when received for step up. That way they know to open the card and inspect thermal pads and whatnot to ensure everything is still good for when they relist it for sale as b-stock.

It was very tight to remove the cooler with out destroying the pads. It is more like a putty.

You broke one and get a shiny new one to replace it while I've been on the list since last year for one. :dead:
He might end up getting a refurbished one. I think EVGA only replaces with a new one if it fails within 30 days of purchase.

That's how warranties work. /shrug. I guess it would REALLY piss you off to know they have a warehouse filled with units just so they can have a warranty program.

with evga as long as you dont solder the board (or damage socket pins on MOBOs) your generally fine. as long as you can reassemble back to original config before sending it back for RMA. watercooling, installing hybrid kits, changing paste ect isnt an issue with them. as one of the last companies that really puts a focus on overclocking and such they dont usually try to screw people with cheap corporate warranty BS and games. (altho i have heard of negative experiences occasionally)

It's most likely a refurb, and email says it should ship within 3 days, but that could just be a canned reply and I could be waiting weeks or months maybe.
"Your collateral was received and EVGA will now ship your replacement product to you within 1-3 business days."

In the email they say what not to send in,
"Please do not send in the following: Power Cables, Power Cords, Posters, Games, T-shirts, I/O Shields, I/O Covers, CPU cooler Adapters and Brackets, Adjustment Tool, Weights, DVI to VGA Adapters, HDMI adapters, DMS cables, Low-Profile Brackets, Case Badges, CLC mounting hardware/bracket/backplate, Hybrid cooler shroud/mounting hardware, Graphics Card Backplates that were purchased separately as an accessory or given through a promotion, Stickers, Manuals, CD's and original box packaging."

This means that I keep my original box right? Since I am doing a cross-ship, I just put my defective card into the box the replacement comes in.

Looks like the replacement is coming next week, just got a UPS notification.

replacement came today. Appears to be a brand new retail unit.
Do I keep both original boxes and just put the dead card into another box? Be nice to have 2 boxes for display on my shelf, ;)

I am probably just going to remove all the little items from my original box and use that to ship it back in.

Yeah your suppose to ship the bad one back in the box they came in. I don't think you can keep both.
I am going to keep the outer sleeve, I think that should be fine.
The email says not to send in the original box packaging.

I think it is just in case they send you a refurbished white box. Cause like someone was real upset that they didn't get a box before here.

Hahaha was just thinking the same thing. That guy did not read the RMA directions and got burned.

Now, do I attempt to put the Hybrid Cooler on this new card or just leave it as is?

I know the feeling. I tried putting my alphacool block on my 3080 rma replacement and also ended up dead. It sat for 2 week cause I was busy but last week went to take it apart and rma it and for shits and giggles I gave it another try and it worked with no issue lol.

I know the conversation moved forward but in case others are reading this, there are many non-card-killed issues which could cause a gpu to not pass post after what is basically a cosmetic change.

Try all the things in this thread and then completely redo your installation as a last step before RMA. I had the same issue once on a Titan V and realized that I botched the heat paste and didn’t cover the full die. Reapplied and it worked fine.

Just thought I would chime in as I recently received my first RMA through EVGA for my EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra Gaming.

I had to pay shipping to them (I'm in Canada). It took 6 days total (including a weekend) for UPS to deliver to them in Brea California. They received the card and the RMA status was updated in the EVGA RMA portal. They had it for 7 days and I received a UPS ship notification because I have my address registered with UPS. The following day I received an e-mail from EVGA indicating that a replacement card was on the way. They paid for faster shipping, so the card actually only took 2 days to get from them to me.

I got the replacement card this morning. It arrived in full retail packaging including the pamphlets and GPU support bracket that the card came with.

My observation is that if you check the serial number label, instead of saying Made in China, it says "Packaged in U.S.A.", so I have to assume that while this was nicely packaged and looks new with all the retail stuff, it is in fact refurbished which I suppose is expected with warranty replacement programs in general, plus GPU availability being what it is... they really have to concentrate on actually fixing the broken stuff people are shipping them. :)

Anyhow, glad your RMA experience worked out, hopefully you don't have the same issues. I would say my RMA experience was decent. I'm not happy about having to pay so much money to ship back, but the overall process was decent.

Ya, mine might have been a refurbed with a fresh cooler on it since it had the peel still on it. What makes me think that is that the bottom of the outer sleeve didn't have the EVGA seal on it, just the top was sealed.

Glad it worked out for the OP, EVGA CS is likely the best in business but also a reminder to self not to mess with things if not broken lol..
