System Shock Remastered Demo Available June 28th

If I have 30 people dividing it into two teams of 15 won't change how much resources I have :p

Who said anything about dividing your total resources in half? How does the ACTUAL size of each project come into play? If one or two community members without the source code can come up with sizable, functional patches, then why couldn't say 5-6 WITH the source code, and considerable development experience. One guy added mouselook and resolutions higher than 640x400 to the original System Shock with no source code. There are so many variables here (aside from just the numbers you chose.)

***I did catch the :p but I thought I'd give a few reasons why I don't think it's at all unreasonable.

CEO Stephen Kick spoke to GamesRadar about SS2 Enhanced and stated that it's actually putting its focus on the game's multiplayer...

"Our priority with the Enhanced Edition is to be able to deliver an updated co-op multiplayer component. As of right now starting a co-op campaign is needlessly complicated and we're going to address that by implementing features that will enable a more modern and streamlined experience," Kick said.

"Our other priority is to ensure that all existing mods and fan missions are compatible with the Enhanced Edition, but much of that will rely on the cooperation of the mod community. We have some other surprises that we'll be revealing in the future."

A friend and I decided that we were going to beat it in co-op over a weekend once. We pulled it off pretty well. We did end up cheating for a little extra ammo on the Rickenbacker I think. We were both totally sleep-deprived afterward, but we had a blast.

It did crash a fair few times while we were playing, which was a pain. So polishing up co-op and getting this running on a modern engine would really make it shine.

Gave it a try, it's pretty solid. I fear people who never played the first one will be a little confused, because it plays like an old school game but the graphics are pretty modern. As far as taking the original game and updating it goes, they're doing a great job. I like how they kept the texture filtering off so everything has a pixelated look up close.

That is precisely what I want out of this thing. The same game, new paint. They tried to stray a bit too far toward something different, and that's why they had to reset the project part way through. If you're doing a remake, you shouldn't stray too far from the source material. If you're doing something related, or a "spiritual successor" (I hate that term) then by all means take a bit more license.

Seems okay so far, seems a whole lot like the one they released like what, a year or two ago? I don't really see much changed from that one, based on my memory.

I don't like how the informational text is all jammed onto the very top edge of the screen, makes it really awkward to read. Should be near the middle like every other game.

The graphics are a weird combo of old low rez pixel textures mixed with modern characters, lighting, and infrastructure. Aaaand I think I kind of like it? It shouldn't work but it kind of does.

An FYI for those trying it out you'll notice saving is locked out but the hotkeys are listed in the config screen. Don't use them, F9 loads you back to the beginning erasing all your progress.

I spent some more time with this and honestly...yeah, I don't know how I feel about it. Despite the weird graphics which kind of work, the game itself just feels supremely janky. It's really difficult to tell what you can even interact with, and you have to be literally up an enemy's asshole to be able to hit them with the pipe, which does not really feel weighty enough or satisfying to use. The shock gun just seemingly ran out of ammo without me having any idea how much ammo there was, and the vast majority of searchable bodies/storage crates are just empty. At times the game is like fucking pitch black, which makes me feel like there should be a flashlight, but there's not. I found a random secret room but it was so dark I literally couldn't tell what, if anything, was inside.

I will say the glowing eye zombie things are creepy as fuck, they have good design. AI is obviously not really in yet.

I guess I'm sort of skeptical but still hopeful, since I did actually Kickstart this however long ago.

Is this coming out soon?
I think I read somewhere that it was going to be released Q1 2020.

Still not playing the demo or watching videos :D

I mean, I won’t be THAT surprised by anything since I still play the game through every couple of years.

I do read the updates though. Was happy to hear a planned release timeframe.
I backed it, so forty-five-schmorty-five. ;)

Might order it for a few friends though. :D

Holy fuck, that coretex reaver looked SO FREAKY. I cannot fucking wait for this

Also have we learned about what changes are in store for SS2 Enhanced?
If I remember correctly, it’s mostly the inclusion of the most popular community packs, fixes, etc. I have an email about it somewhere. I’ll see if I can find it.

how many System Shock games are in development?...I'm totally confused...so there's an Enhanced Version of SS1, an upcoming Enhanced version of SS2 along with a remake of SS1 and a new System Shock 3?...all by the same studio?

I looked in my Steam Library and have System Shock 2 which I played...was that just the original game ported to Steam?...I remember having to use a bunch of mods with it

System Shock: Enhanced Edition is an update to the original game to get it working on modern PCs with resolution options and such. It is still very much the original game.

System Shock (2021) is a complete remake of the original game.

System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition is the same as SSEE for the second game.

System Shock 3 is a brand new sequel in the SS universe.

SSEE, SS2EE, and SS 2021 are all developed by Nightdive Studios.

SS3 is being developed by OtherSide Entertainment.

The System Shock 2 you played on Steam is the original game, as the EE has not been released yet. It was just announced at the end of 2019 and I believe it was put on hold to finish SS 2021.

I thought System Shock 3 was shelved indefinitely after the core team from OtherSide left?

Yeah, just watched it. Pretty sick looking game!! I just hope the gameplay holds up and isn't clunky. I put off playing any demos/alphas that they released because I wanted to experience the final product in its finished form. I was an early backer on this. Gimme!

I played System Shock 2 when it came to Steam in 2013 and liked it even though it looked a bit dated...I never bought the original SS or SS: Enhanced Edition because that game looked even more dated...but this new SS1 remake looks really good so I'll give it a go

I'll probably pickup SS2: EE as well as that always seemed like the more influential game plus I won't have to install multiple mods to get it to look and play better on a modern PC...I'm guessing Nightdive is going to eventually release a remake of SS2

You shut your whore mouth for giving me hope for that...OMG.

I agree with you; I didn't grow up playing SS so I have no sentimental attachment to the first game, and I was kinda put off by the graphics when I finally did buy it so I own it but haven't played it. Definitely looking forward to this new version. Maybe I should try to push through SS:EE before the new one so I'll recognize the levels etc. Or maybe it's better to experience everything for the first time in this new one...IDK. If anyone thinks I should play the original one, LMK I guess.

SS2 definitely feels more iconic to me, but maybe that's because that's the one I played back in the "heyday" of Deus Ex, No One Lives Forever, Hitman, etc. when PC gaming seemed so new and fresh and filled with lots of unique, fun games year after year.

And there is a new official trailer.

Insect... you try my patience with these trailers. :D

Deus Ex was one of the most supremely satisfying gaming experiences of my life. Where else could you debate political philosophy while in a fire fight against cyber-augmented enemies?

definitely was a golden time for games.

SS2 is probably my favorite game of all time.

I prefer the first one, by a VERY VERY narrow margin. Probably just the timing of when I played them, and the impression they left on me at the time. They are definitely my top two slots of all time gamery.

First one is very good but the control part of it is odd which makes it hard.

Its also very difficult to me.

But yes, it is still an amazing game. Looking glass made absolutely fantastic games in the 90s. I still love playing through terra nova once a year terrible fmvs and all. Very under rated game

Does DLSS work better in 4K? I've been fairly underwhelmed by it in a lot of games at 1440p. I mean, it does definitely improve framerate a LOT, but I almost always can tell the graphical quality decrease it has.
