I think it's because 2x3080 would outperform a 3090 quite handily. Driver updates over the years did wonders to eliminate micrustutter, and PCIE 4.0 + the new woowoo SLI bracket that costs $130, and you've paid LESS than a 3090 for more performance, including nearly double the mining potential. Nothing Nvidia would want, for sure.
You are certainly out of touch.

That could have definitely been a factor, but realistically the 3090 would still outperform 2x 3080s in the vast majority of newer DX12/Vulcan titles that don't support SLI now.

It's kinda funny too that if SLI was still relevant and working on most games, then this would have been the first time when it may have really made sense to go SLI on a non-flagship GPU. Since any other time before it was still much more cost beneficial from both a cost and performance standpoint (usually) to just buy the next fastest single GPU/card and it really only ever made sense to SLI on the current flagship GPU in order to get the absolute best performance money can buy.

Implicit multi GPU is dead. Both NVIDIA and AMD no longer support it in their drivers. The number of games that support explicit multi GPU can be counted on one hand. So, no, two 3080s would not outperform a 3090 "quite handily."

The only realistic way to get multiple 3080s (outside of luck) is to be a scalper or miner with an army of bots.

When was the last time a 3080 was in the shuffle? Has to have been at least a month now.

There hasn't been a month of Shuffle yet, but it's been at least a couple of weeks.
Haven’t really been paying as much attention since getting my 3090 back in December. Have checked the shuffles every now and then out of curiosity. I remember a 3080 STRIX in it the first couple of days of the shuffle and then haven’t seen one since. Has to have been 2-3 weeks by now.

You're certainly right about virtually all games, with few exceptions, but when it comes to mining, two 3080s definitely will out-mine a single 3090 for FAR less money. And mining is all the rage right now.

As an FYI, looks like AMD.com restocked their 5800x, but it doesn't appear they've restocked anything else today. Bummer!

I don't know much about mining but a little bit of Google searching shows that SLI is certainly not needed and not even recommended when doing mining. As far as I can tell you can use separate cards for mining just fine but you don't need to have them in SLI as that can actually make it slower.

Roguecast has another 6800 in stock but idk something about them sketches me out. I did place an order yesterday for a slightly cheaper 6800 from them on a credit card so I'm protected but idk anyone got any opinions or better yet facts??

I tried to post the deal yesterday over at /r/bapcs but the submission got rejected because Roguecast isn't an approved bapcs supplier?

That price though ... holy sheep poop biscuits.

They're legit. I got my 6900xt Nitro+ from them and also a 6800xt Nitro+ for my brother. Both boxed well and shipper listed as "ASL\Newegg" on the label and invoice. Packed really well too.

I think exactly zero people on here have disagreed with this. Why are we still beating this dead horse?

Beating a dead horse? What in the hell are you talking about? I'm directly quoting what you said about 2 3080s beating a 390 in mining and simply saying that SLI has nothing to do with that.

I'm pretty sure that SirKronan never mentioned SLI just multi-GPU. TheZander was the one referencing 2x3080 in SLI beating a 3090. SirKronan was just pointing out situations where multi-GPU (non-SLI) would be beneficial. Mining is definitely one of them.

Above is what he said to me after I told that other user he was out of touch when it came to SLI. Anybody looking at the context there would clearly think he means that SLI was advantageous for mining but not for gaming so much. So it's not my fault if he wasn't clear and certainly no horse has been beaten yet.

Kirby is correct. I wasn't specifically touting SLI. Sorry for any misunderstanding, jobert. The "dead horse" was in reference to what someone else posted earlier in the thread, too, not just you.
Well, the original post we were replying to were specifically referencing SLI and gaming performance. Mining and other GPGPU tasks have nothing to do with SLI, so the dropping of implicit multi GPU has nothing to do with that performance aspect.

You win. I give up. I don't even know what you win, but you're 100% right about it all, and I submit to your superiorness.

Can we please move on now? Thanks!

I got my 3070 from bestbuy a few weeks ago off of this thread. Might not work for most other resellers but with BB trickling cards out over an hour or so being able to get a notification within a second of the product going live isn't needed there.

I'm on snail and even got on the upgraded notification selections you have to pay for. Most of the big sites are completely lost to the bots now. I instaclicked so many notifications over the last month. I was trying for a 3080, but also shooting for 6800xt, 6900xt, 3070, 3090, etc.

I have seen so many screenshots in the chat rooms there of bots nabbing multiples of a card that everyone who clicked instantly failed to even cart. The people in that discord are some of the best "manual" buyers of gpus and they are all starting to admit defeat to bots. Amazon, B&H, Newegg - Bots have those completely figured out.

BB came through for me and I "settled" on a $1500 3090 fe. Last hope for anyone to get cards at "normal" prices.

That's what it feels like to me. We thinking a potential drop next week?

Yep, things are getting difficult part of it is total lack of stock and part of it is AWS resident bots like snailbot itself that checkout in < 1 sec.
