Wolcen Lords of Mayhem

I ended up rage quitting on the Act 2 boss. The difficulty spike was ridiculous. I've been enjoying the game well enough, but it's just not well balanced or polished. It's definitely a play once and you're done title.

This game had potential. IMO they just stole most of what they have from POE and it's FAR less polished, and less fun in general. I don't even really like the skill tree. It's a shame when you have a massive skill tree that I browse through like....meh. I'm getting my $29 worth by finishing the entire game and then it's getting uninstalled. I don't see anyone on [H] defending it so I'm not going to hold my tongue like I do on the Reddit page. Wolcen is garbage.

I just came off of Children of Morta prior to starting this game, spent the last 3 days blowing through it. Anyone here who hasn't played it, DO IT. More "gauntlet" style ARPG but it's got 10x the charm of Wolcen.

Looked up Children of Morta - thanks for the recommendation, looks like an amazing game. There's also a 3rd party hack for ultrawide support. Very cool.

Glad to share - sometimes smaller indie games fall through the cracks and I felt like that was one that SHOULD NOT be missed by anyone who likes RPGs with tons of charm and cool mechanics. It's also the first game I've ever played couch co-op from my PC. Before this I didn't even know I could connect 2 xbox one controllers via Bluetooth simultaneously. :D

Shame about the release since it seemed like this game had a lot of promise. Early Access for 4 years. Continuing to give me a reason to never buy a game released in EA.

Interested to know if they just ran out of money, time, or what. Because honestly the game is still a beta state as far as I'm concerned. Sure, you can play through the entire 3 Acts but not without encountering a few game breaking bugs as well as all the underlying things that have yet to be fully discovered / talked about enough. Lots of skills / stats / damage type stuff that doesn't work correctly. Honestly I should've just rolled a straight up sword and board boring ass tank build that had survivability. A lot of the mage damage types / stacking mechanism related skills for ailments etc., just don't work or make sense in a way that's been explained well.

Completed the campaign and ran a few maps, the game is still fairly enjoyable. After playing PoE for years it feels great to be playing an arpg that isn't designed around 1 shot mechanics.

PoE is still the undisputed king in the arpg genre, but it does have its issues. It's endgame is binary, you're either alive or dead, there is no in between. No counter-play involved. Feels like a 1 shot simulator, even experienced streamers who slow motion the replay of their instant deaths often can't tell what killed them, further more regular players. There are many QoL features it's still missing, even after years of players begging for them.

I want to see more developers tackle this genre, providing competition and innovation. It's still too early to write off this game just yet, they made about $10mil this week alone, time will tell how they re-invest into it.

This. I rolled a DPS based 2-hander melee character and just get wrecked in main boss fights. I completely destroy everything else leading up to the bosses, but a character needs decent survivabilty to be viable for end of act fights.

I will have to totally respec my character if I'm going to beat the Act 2 boss and at this point I'm not sure if I can be bothered.

Funny, once of the complaints you occasionally see on the sub or their forum is "my build sucks at bossing should have just rolled a 2H melee character". Grass is always greener on the other side.

You can beat that fight without ever getting hit once. Similarly to a Souls boss, do it enough you'll know all its moves and where to stand to avoid damage. Phase 1 you can
destroy the sacs around the arena
to stop mob spawns. Phase 2 you should
keep a movement skill ready so you can use it to get to the white circle.
Other than that it's just familiarity with the fight, dodge rolling to avoid damage, and dps the boss or any spawned adds.

As with what other people have been stating, it's just way too buggy right now. I lost my stash a few times already, and all the dyes and transmogs. And on a couple occasions, the game broke, as I couldn't proceed forward, or a quest didn't register.

It has potential, but if you haven't bought it, I'd hold off.

a few people have been posting spinning axe builds. there is some sort of glitch in one of the trees that acts as an insane damage multiplier. will probably get patched out fairly soon though

A typo, one of the crit multiplier from block chance nodes has +50 instead of +0.5. (all the other nodes next to it are +0.5) I'm surprised it wasn't patched yet, but then again tree fixes are probably low on the priority list atm.

I was playing online with a friend for a couple hours. Outside of some server response issues, it worked out great and had a lot of fun. I'm really liking the pase of the combat, not being a super crazy ability spam game. The transmog and coloring system is really nicely done. The biggest issue for me right now is the loot pickup bug. Hopefully that gets fixed soon.

That's funny. Prolly lotta people respeccing to this. I'm a mage otherwise, I would. I bet people are just clearing tons of mobs doing speed runs with this.

Hello
What happens to gold and my account if I used glitch?
If there is a known glitch that is being exploited then I'd avoid using it. Best case scenario is you lose your stash and gold. Worst case is you get banned. Best to always play within the intended boundaries of the game no matter what game you play and what others are doing especially if it's online.

eh, I doubt they would risk their goodwill by banning people for using something they have not fixed. the game is a top seller, one of the reasons their servers are getting hammered. they probably do not want to mess with that.

I dunno. I keep trying to like the game, but the story is god awful and otherwise it's just re-skinned PoE, which I quit a long time ago due to getting bored. I don't think this one will hold me through a full week.

Found a good mage build yet? I have my skills fairly leveled up, yet my heal spell with the damage aura does more damage than my main spells, which are leveled up significantly higher.

Yeah look.. The second half of phase 2 is just ridiculous. You just simply dont have enough mobility to avoid the area of effect spells. I've learnt all the patterns and am able to smash Phase 1 no problem and the first half of Phase 2. But, tt's insane. IMHO, the difficulty spike is way beyond anything else up until that point and needs a nerf.

I got through the Act bosses with a Plagueburst build that focused on toxic / material damage and speccing into the Siegebreaker tree which gives you a couple of abilities that basically make you unkillable at the expensive of running ridiculously slow. But I was hearing that one will be nerfed because the %'s were wrong by a mile - I see there was a patch that came through at 5AM so I'd say specs will change greatly today.

I haven't uninstalled it yet but I moved on to Hades last night, and the game is a freaking blast - more polished than Wolcen and it's only been out in EA since December.

I ended up downloading a bunch of mods for Torchlight 2 and already am having more fun than in Wolcen (and any other ARPG recently)...

I am replaying grim dawn right now. I had never played the DLCs. Not that I don't like wolcen, but I think it needs to cook some more, and nothing I hate as much as getting a build nerfed, and it seems like the game will be going through some balancing cycles, both player and bosses.

I agree - took a break myself. Spent hours playing with builds just to find one that satisfied me and BOOM it was gone. Back to the drawing board and it isn't exactly cheap to respec every time you turn around.

I played the shit out of Children of Morta and then went over to Hades and spent 40 hours in the past week blazing through that game as well. Both fucking incredible. But, rogue-lite's are kind of my favorite genre these days. Need to find something else now. Tbh Grim Dawn didn't do it for me the first time around, I think the general atmosphere wasn't to my liking.

I need to get back into Grim Dawn. It was a lot more fun for me than Wolcen.

I gave up on this game. I ran into a bunch of issues initially. Is everything sorted now?

Nope, still sucks. I tried it again this last weekend.
Still believe it was a waste of money, and more importantly, a waste of space on the SSD

They have fixed some of the game breaking bugs. One was causing the last boss to freeze and you couldn't kill it. I did go back and finish it but that killed what little enthusiasm I had for the game.
To the point where I went and bought a supporter pack for PoE and started playing it again for the first time in 5 years or so. Grim Dawn and PoE are so much better.

Game is currently 30% off on Steam.

Played a couple of hours so far. I think its fantastic. For such a small team, it has excellent production value. I'm having a blast. Anyone looking for a new ARPG Hack n Slash to play, give it a go, you may be pleasantly surprised!

Alright.... I'll "invest"..

Wolcen is still a game I'm sorry I purchased.
Have you played it recently?

I ask because I purchased it a couple of years ago and had to refund it. I decided to get it again. Its totally different than when I had previously purchased it.
