Just in case the thread title wasn't enough: "The Pascal-based NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti is a card that hasn't been spotted in the green jungles of NVIDIA's AIB ecosystem since the past two years. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes of the smoldering fire that is the GPU market in 2021, the NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti is officially returning from the dead as NVIDIA struggles to meet overwhelming demand."

This is absurd.
Of course, but it makes sense. Most people would probably be fine with a 1050 Ti, and on a different process, it shouldn't compete for wafers with the high end stuff. I was using a 1050 for a week or two recently while I sent my 2070 out to evga for a warranty repair. (Also, thanks to the people who reminded me of evga's warranty period being so long! )

1050ti isn't what anyone wanting a 3060 or better wants though. It's a filler gpu. I've had a few and they're great, but it's 2021. It's a bit dated. And why make a 1050ti and not a 1650?

I imagine they also never stop or restarted the low turing one, the 1050ti.

1650 is 12nm TSMC turing chips, 1050ti is 14 nm Pascal if (https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-gtx-1650.c3366, https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-gtx-1050-ti.c2885) is accurate.

Maximum volume is probably higher with those 2 different product/supply chain going on than just one.

I have a box at work that drives a surveillance video wall with a 1050ti in it. Low power, multiple outputs and it handles H26X acceleration like a champ.

I have a 1050 Ti and would like a 1650 in a new machine I want to build (partly due to consumption) but they don't seem to be in stock everywhere. Does this mean a new version is coming out like 2050?

Best guess: it's a significantly smaller die than that in the 1060 or higher chips, and it's also on a different process (apparently? I'm going off of the Geforce 10 series page on Wikipedia), so they expect to be able to make more money based on # of good dies per wafer * estimated sales.

Oh, and more likely this, FTA: "Another interesting point that Videocardz mentions is that the current DAG file of Ethereum requires over 4GB of vRAM to be able to be mined - which means that the 1050 Ti will not be targetted by scalpers or miners - making it the ideal low-end GPU."

I'm guessing the demand is from people who've blown up or sold every graphics card they've owned over the past few years and live in a used GPU desert.

Yeah, a bit of hyperbolic joking, but it isn't too far off the mark when it comes to how utterly fucking ridiculous (sad) the state of GPU availability is these days.

weird choice. I get them trying to fill demand, but no one wants a 1050 ti.

Re-release a 1080 ti for $250ish and they'd probably print money. Hell I might even buy one for the racing rig. a 1050 ti? naaah.
As awesome as that would be the wafer cost of a 1080ti is about half that alone, forget about the other components. Pretty sure their break even would be in the mid $300’a still.

Unfortunately right now I have that exact card as my only option.
Waiting on a pre-order for weeks with a few postponements already.
Most games are playable on medium-high 1080p

Still faster than integrated, and it’s priced for a big chunk of the market.

doesn’t help out enthusiasts, but would likely still be a good upgrade for a lot of people.

plus low power!

New games probably no, but most 5+yr old games play well on it.

The miners are using bots to buy cards before consumers just like the scalpers did. So between the two, consumers get the scraps.

This has been a problem for six months. I’m out of pity for NVIDIA.
eBay sellers are (at least in y case) selling a lower card than they list for sale.
I didnt want to spend $600 on ebay for a midrange card so I bid on an EVGA 1650 super to tide me over till I could get what I want. received the non super variant.

Now im just waiting for them to restart some Maxwell gpu's at this point.

Maybe some new GTX 980 ti's could be obtained. 🤣
You mean like how Intel spun up their old 22nm process to manufacture more Haswell CPUs over the last year?
Please don't give NVIDIA any ideas... :D

Honestly, at the rate things are going, a lot more PC enthusiasts are going to be asking which pre-built is best as opposed to which GPU is best...

i dont know.... My 5 year old 980 ti could use a couple of new young friends..... 😆

im honestly surprised how rock stable this Gigabyte Windforce 980 ti gpu been given its age. *knocks on wood*

Most of my other hardware would of shown some kind of problem by now (at least once in it life).

all this talk of 980Ti, y'all are overlooking the real move here... I bet TSMC has some space on their 65nm and/or 55nm lines, and I bet those G92 masks are still sitting around somewhere. See where I'm going with this, eh? Up for a fifth round of Tesla anyone?

The 1050/1050ti is pretty much the absolute bare minimum for AAA games right now, but it will run them. My laptop with an overclocked (~2Ghz) 4GB 1050 non-Ti can do 30-50fps in games like Control, Cyberpunk, Metro Exodus, at upscaled 1080P & medium settings. Not terrible but not worth $200+ for a desktop card with that perf in 2021. Then again it is 2021, so who knows what anything is "worth" right now.

I gave a friend $50 shipped for. Its definitely worth that right now to me since I have no options. Im still sourcing parts for my new NR200 build so Im dealing with this card.
Any suggestions on a SFX PSU would be nice. I bought a Seasonic 650, but its too big. I mean it fits but blocks top fan

Corsair has become the standard bearer of the SFF community.

This is probably made even easier by original 1650 cards shipping with 128-bit GDDR5. Assuming it uses the sane package size, you could swap one GPU for another

Would save you the added latency of spinning back up old PCBs

Was wondering why they didn't bring back the 1060 3GB instead, but that would cannibalize their GTX 1650 sales where the 1050 Ti's performance trails by enough, I suppose.

GP107 is a fair bit smaller than GP106 too (132mm^2 vs 200mm^2) so probably dirt cheap to produce. And IIRC GP107 is fabbed by Samsung instead of TSMC, so there might be something to do with that as well.

Don't think this will help demand at all, but maybe those donks that sold their 2080 Tis prematurely will have a consolation price.

I'd pay $350 for a brand new 1080 Ti with that new card smell. I'll stick with my 980 Ti until I can find an affordable used card or this happens.

Better question is why not a RTX 3050 instead of the 1050Ti? The more people using these old cards the less likely you'll see games with Ray-Tracing.

I bet the parts used just don't overlap much at all. And the small die size means they're not using a lot of silicon, either. The supply side is struggling with basic material shortages, not just high demand. Yields are probably really high, so even if they're using a larger node, they might actually be using less raw material to make a similar number of cards.

It's not like the RTX 3050 is going to see a lot of ray-tracing, either.

People are paying $450+ for them used so it would just be another OOS scalped card.

Lets not kid ourselves thinking Nvidia is doing this out of the kindness of their hearts to help gamers. They have identified a market segment they can sell old tech to at a premium price. Fabs are slammed and they are trying to pick the card that will use the least amount of available resources for the biggest return. They must have determined that to be the 1050ti.

Lmao.watch these cards get scalped and sold for 1100

I have a 6900xt and a 5600xt and im absolutely thrilled to have those. Im tempted to camp again at MC to get another GPU incase one of these dies as warranty stock is probably 12 week waits.

"due to demand" well I demand 2080 super or ti performance at a fraction of the cost. Don't seem to be meeting any of my demands.
