IceGirant ProSiphon Results Are In!!

I just installed the ProSiphon in my 1950X rig and I honestly cannot believe what I am seeing. All along I had the Thermalright Silver Arrow TR4. Overclocking to 4.0Ghz and encoding with Handbrake where all cores running around 100% resulted in avg. temps 85c. At times it would spike over 88c resulting in thermal throttling. I had the Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3 but found the Silver Arrow to cool about 3c cooler. With the ProSiphon I cannot make the temperature go above 72c. I even turned up the ambient room temp from 68F to 72F and turned all the fans (both cooler fans and case fans) down to 1500 rpm and max temp hit 76c. I know there has been disappointing results with non Threadripper CPUs but with my 1950X it lowered the temperature over 14 degrees. Needless to say I'm a happy camper.
 
Yep its designed for those giant multi die cpus, as you noted its subpar for the standard sized chips at least compared to a NH-D15 or similar dual tower standard design.
 
Awesome! Honestly this is the most interesting product for cooling in quite some time.
 
I'm really hoping they design one meant for the smaller AM4/1151/2011 sockets I'd grab one in a heartbeat.
I just don't need quite that many cores to justify the need for a threadripper, I got a couple of cheap xeons that work just as well for much less cost.

Yeah they mentioned a copper base version at some point (current is aluminum) so that might help a bit. If they had a LGA3647 mount I'd try it out on my 3175X.
 
Dam I want to get one, but I am not sure how well it will work when I have my 3090 Hybrid radiator in the way of the exhaust.
 
Using one on my 3970X and i get good results comparable to what's stated above. Have the bottom fans on mine pulling and the top fans exhausting, and two 140mm fans exhausting out of the case above those. (Have a 120mm behind it exhausting out of the back of the case also) It's best for TR pretty much from what i've been reading but seems to do okay on other CPU's.

I have a big case (Phanteks Enthoo Pro) so I have 3 140mm Noctua 3000 rpm industrial fans on the top of the case exhausting air out and 2 of the same fans bringing air in from the front. When turned up it is very loud. I'm hoping with the Prosiphon I can run the fans slower or replace them with silent fans with the same coolng results.

The ice giants come with reasonably quiet arctic fans if I remember correctly.
 
Sorry...forgot to mention my case which is a mesh pro performance. Have a 360AIO in the front but that's for my 3090 Kingpin. Replaced the original fans with quieter fans on the cooler so not too loud.
 
Here's the latest with this beast of a cooler: Just overclocked to 4.1 Ghz at 1.4v. Encoding a 4K movie now with all cores at 100% and pushing over 330 Watts output. Temperature is hanging at 77.5c and did not get above 78c

Now the cores are closer to the same temp when loaded but they are still running too hot for my liking when overclocked.

My though was the same that it would work better with a larger CPU die.. but I have also though about lapping the ICEGIANT base just enough to smooth it out since the stock finish is quite rough.

What thermal paste are you using? The Thermal Grizzly that came with it seems to be the best so far out of the pastes I have tried.

If I can't make it work well with this CPU, I will probably put it away and get an AIO for the time being.

its design specifically for threadripper. everyone that has tried it on intel have had poor results.
 
Yeesh, I'll stick with water.

What a monstrosity. Nice that it works on the TR tho.

I got in on the original pre-order so didn't really have any results except from the Linus video where he tested the prototype which is a whole lot different than the final version.

I think I am going to change to a water cooling setup for this system and box this piece of excellent engineering up and save it for when I get an AMD setup.
 
Wow 3 1/2 pounds of metal pulling down on the socket while mounted vertical. I'm sure it'll be ideal on a bench, but aside from that I would think it's fatal on a motherboard.

I've had the Prosiphon installed for a couple months now. It attaches no less secure than the Noctua U14-S or Thermalright Silver Arrow without affecting the motherboard. After seeing this with my own eyes and pushing 1.4V at a 4.1Ghz overclock on the 1950X running all cores around 100% for hours of video encoding, never seeing temperatures surpass 75c and averaging 68c, I would not bat an eye at getting this IF YOU HAVE A THREADRIPPER. Since I have never done a custom water setup, how much more can you squeeze out of this processor with these temperatures?
