Net50 much slower to connect than Net24

I have 2.4 and 5.0 GHz WiFi in my house. For both my laptops and my phones/tablets, they connect to the 2.4 band much faster than the 5.0 band. Sometimes when I select the 5.0 band on my iPhone, it doesn't connect until I repeat the selection several times.

A few questions:

Different SSID or the same SSID for both networks?
How far are you from the access point?
Are there other WiFi access points (yours or even a neighbors) operating on the same frequency?

5Ghz is usually faster than 2.4Ghz if you have one wall or less between you and the access point but 2.4Ghz still functions better through walls/objects and often at longer distances. So if you are far away, and/or have several walls between you and the access point, I would fully expect 2.4Ghz to perform better (including less issues connecting).
Many TV services use 5Ghz WiFi to transmit from the main Cablebox / Satellite box / DVR to the client boxes in other rooms. These boxes usually have pretty strong transmitters along with using 160Mhz channels that take up a ton of spectrum. If your 5Ghz WiFi happens to be on that same frequency you will likely have issues.

Different SSIDs between 2.4 and 5.0.

I have issues even when there is just one wall (ceiling, actually) between WiFi and system.

I thought the main cable box and the secondary cable box connect over coax. I wasn't aware of 5.0 wifi traffic between them. Mine is Comcast.

Are you using the Comcast supplied modem/router for your WiFi?

A handful of years ago Comcast got the bright idea to basically hijack everyone's home internet connection and use it to broadcast a separate WiFi hotspot, (SSID "xfinitywifi"), so that other people can use your internet connection if they have a Comcast account and are within range. This is a separate WiFi network, operated by Comcast using the equipment in your home, that you have no direct control over. It can and does interfere with your private WiFi networks. You can disable this network either by using your own Cablemodem and router instead of Comcast's, or you can call them and beg them to disable it (they are usually willing to do so).

I can't guarantee that this is what is causing your problem, but you should have them disable it anyway, because Comcast allowing others to use your connection is BS and it's certainly not beneficial to you in any way.

I used to have a Comcast modem/router and as soon as I learned about this xfinity hotspot, I turned it off. But about two years ago I did the math and bought my own cable modem. It works fine, no complaints, and less money to Comcast every month.
