there's a used MSI GTX 1660 Ti twin fan model currently listed on ebay for $285 shipped. It has 57 views per hour and it's still up for sale while ALL other used GTX 1660 Ti's list for $400+

R things slowing down? Does anyone really care besides miners?

Just supply and demand and with the prices being raised recently on the new cards I would think some would just hold off and buy a new card over a used card with near new card prices. Just my thought on it

If you feel like being taken advantage of there's a sapphire 6800 on NewEgg Canada for $1,300

I don't think so, prices will remain insane as long as people are willing to pay them, and I really don't care. I sit back and laugh.

At these insane prices it could be enough for Intel to develop more enthusiast stand alone GPUs to compete with and take market share.

Intel won't be competing with AMD or Nivida for at least a decade IF at all.

Slowing down? Not likely. Seem to remember reading that gaming in the US has increased near 50% since the 'rona. That could equate to a lot of people buying consoles or wanting to upgrade their PC.

And Covid isn't going away any time soon. It'll basically become endemic like the Flu, except all year round. So, basically we have to pay double or triple the prices or find other things to do. There's always hope that people will get tired of these prices though and the bubble will burst forcing sellers to lower their prices, but then we'll have the same problem with stock as we have now.

True. Instead of upgrading I have gone the opposite direction. Breaking out the games and hardware that I bought 20 or so years ago out of mothballs to re-play some favorites.

Is there some secret knowledge you have that lets you say something so strikingly opposite to common sense?

In other news can someone recommend me a 3090 with two hdmi 2.1 outs since that seems to be the only thing purchasable. Don't care about price as long as not a scalp.

Gigabyte or Asus 3090's.

I found some of the gigabyte models to have them. I also noticed the tuff and strix have 2 ports.

The Fe, msi (at least the model I looked at), and evga models I looked at did not 2 hdmi ports.

Yes. I study these types of things. We are to follow the science correct? The science & the reality of the situation has told us this past year that my statement is correct. It'll continue to mutate, like the flu does, every year. We'll have to adjust our vaccines accordingly. It might not be "Covid-19" but it will be a cousin or closely related to the original strain, as Covid-19 wasn't the original strain of Coronavirus it originated from either. Were just going to have to live with it at this point.

Yeah me too. I've had a lot of fun recently going back and playing games on Snes, Genesis, Sega Saturn ect. Even the Turbographix 16 & CD games that I never had as a kid. There are a lot of cool games that I never played. I've also gotten into building retro consoles with single board computers. I imagine itll keep me busy enough until this pricing dilemma works itself out.

Same here. Lol I did end up getting a system built only to turn around and put it through its places on Dosbox games.

Cut me some slack tho...last rig lasted 8 years.

Not to sound antagonistic but im genuinely curious- you think the vaccines will not work and you think covid will have the same ability to mutate as the flu despite not having a segmented genome. In a world where science now even has a stop gap pseudo-vaccine for HIV.

And that will keep gpu prices from dropping

I paid $20 for my current 9 year old GPU and have played hours of Far Cry 5/New Dawn multiplayer, Metro Exodus, Doom Eternal, Wolfenstein New Colossus, Dishonored 2, and Resident Evil 3 on the 13 year old hardware in my signature (1366x768 low/medium settings 30 FPS capped). With my usage scenarios I quit buying high end PC hardware long ago, and now enjoy seeing exactly how well I can make new and demanding games run on my $100 potato. I've got better things to spend money on....and I refuse to participate in the ever increasingly more expensive PC hardware game. I also spend lots of time playing games from a better era of gaming on my retro gaming rig (currently playing Doom "Strain" total conversion and Max Payne 1).

When and if this system dies, I'll upgrade to a used Ryzen or Intel 5th/6th generation motherboard/CPU/memory combo.

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/powercolor-radeon-rx-6800-red-dragon/38.html

TPU recommends the PowerColor RX 6800 at $950, time to throw in the towel folks. Inflated prices are here to stay ...
And this is a good example of why I quit participating in the new hardware game........

I do enjoy coming here and reading peoples experiences with the new stuff, and admiring the awesome builds showcased occasionally and honestly thats enough to satisfy the new hardware "itch".......while enjoying my "old reliable" signature rigs and all the money I've saved.;)

I watch used GPU prices on ebay daily (how I scored my card so cheap) and I see no signs of prices dropping. In fact RX550s that were $50 a year ago are now around $150 and selling well. It's insane!

I wear my grandpas clothes and melt snow to save water. So i can buy a 3090. But honestly though big reason for me for upgrading right now is hdmi 2.1. Doesnt matter how much nitro you put in your 67 chevy rig it doesnt do 10bit 120hz rgb at 4k at any speed

The vaccines will likely work. The problem is to get everyone to take them. As far as GPU prices, it all depends on if the minimum wage is raised in this next bill. If the federal wage minimum wage gets raised to $15 an hour, you can bet on GPU prices to remain & everything else to be more expensive (Not to turn this into a political discussion) but were dealing with how the economy works for goods & service here.

Does it need to be everyone or just enough to never have a R0 that can get over 1.0 most of the year, so it will be seasonal at most ?

it just has to be available for everyone so that people who make the choice not to get the vaccine can live with thier choices and not ruin everyone elses life.

According to the experts 70%-85% of the population needs to be vaccinated in order for the country to return to some kind of normalcy. That or enough of us get the disease and gain the coding to fight it off. I really do think its going to end up being endemic, much like the common cold or the flu. If not here, then somewhere in the world, which still presents a problem from a travel standpoint, since the world is so interconnected now, a problem in one part of the world with a virus like this (Respiratory), is a problem for everyone. These types of viruses especially, they don't put the host down quick enough or at all in some cases, so they can spread around like wildfire.

I paid a grand for my EVGA 2080ti Black edition on new egg. Now that same card is going for $1500+ on newegg. Wait until this new frenzy cools down and hope the tariffs get removed that added $100-$150 onto the price of each graphics card.

Anything is possible, but I wouldn't hold my breath from the rumors I have heard. At least for the top-end. Low-mid range maybe.
Eh. 5 years or so. Based on last time, tape out time on new silicon, etc. We'll start to see better competition in ~3-4 years, then a beat in 5. Then it'll loop around again. It's ALL cyclical.

Sounds like it's time to eBay that card.

I have the 2080ti and a 5700xt. I recently got back into my video crunching for my old firm in Seattle. Normally I would jump at getting the 3090. Even if I were to sell my card for a cool $1k, I would still need to come up with the $1500 needed on top of the grand for the 3090. I can't take the chance of not being able to score a 3090 when I need my current two cards to crunch this video for a project I am working on.

Just gonna wait.

WHo's saying they are dropping. Pricnes have raised by some 20% more in a week. You'll probably get an RTX 3080 at 3000$ in a months or two.
They say, I mean the manufacturers, the prices may start to drop in about 6 months at best.
