CPU stolen

I do wonder if their shipping areas have cameras..I would think so to some degree..and they could see who packaged this specific order...

It's a good bet the same person packaged both of those orders. The method of removing the CPU from the packaging looked identical.

There's no way this happened twice unless it was an employee at the warehouse stealing items. It's not rocket science.

That being said, the fact that there are two identical issues should help Newegg see that the problem is on their end.
not necessarily. If they are shipping things in easily identifiable boxes. Others like Amazon do this as well but amazon, walmart etc sell a zillion things. Newegg box has a better chance of containing valuable electronics. Amazon might be a box of toothpicks. They should ditch the packaging unless its really valuable advertising. unscrupulous geeks will be tempted to take a peek inside newegg boxes.

But if there is no evidence of the box being tampered with, then you would assume that the issue happened prior to shipping (e.g. an employee packaging items for shipment).

I feel like this makes NewEgg look pretty awesome. Obviously they have some *ahem* issues at the distribution centers right now, but to recap:

OP bought a CPU, sat on it for 3 days, opened it, claimed it was not the correct CPU(I believe him but put yourself in the seller's shoes!) filed a complaint and nine days later got another CPU mailed out. That's... about as good as it gets.

Anyone remember about a year ago when someone who was a huge buyer through Amazon ordered some ungodly expensive Xeons, got scammed in a similar situation except reported it immediately, and again, probably has a long, sterling reputation with Amazon, and all they did was tell him to pound sand?

And what's with the guilty until proven innocent mentality by some here? Lame.

yeah. if that can be confirmed. The tape on both sets of pics is a little suspect tho. second has 2 layers (could be overlap from wrapping around). First could just be a bad tape job at the warehouse. You can cut the tape at the bottom to open the flaps and then tape it back. Think OP said someone ripped the back and taped it back.

So another update. UPS shows up at the office a few minutes ago to pickup a damaged package for, "1 CPU INTEL". UPS left me a "Damage call tag customer receipt" with a tracking number.
Newegg didn't tell me a thing about the pickup or return. No email, no guidance, just UPS showing up wanting the package out of the blue.

I've not had problems with Amazon. All 3 times I've had a problem with missing or damaged items they either replaced or credited me for the item immediately and with no real fuss.

What if it is the thief coming in to finish his job and tie up loose ends ... ??!! 😱

Funny, I had that thought when the receptionist called. Someone covering their tracks. Icing on the cake will be Newegg demanding I send them the package or charge me for the replacement...

How odd, different warehouses, different states being delivered do.. clearly an inside job, or some other "customer" buying the CPUs, taking them out, and shipping them back for a refund, with their RMA department not checking (highly unlikely). But seriously, why would someone inside the company steal that particular CPU and in such an obvious and negligent fashion.. this isn't even a CPU they can resell for a profit, is it? It's not rare like AMDs are at the moment.

If Newegg wasn't able to help (which I'm relived for you they did), my next step would have been to have filed a claim with my CC, followed by BBB (despite as useless as people claim they are)

Hopefully they find the culprit(s) and do something about it. What the fuck.

edit: I recall seeing reports of people doing something similar with their Amazon returns. They'd buy a CPU, take it out and keep it, then put in an old ass CPU with a printed sticker label on the CPU that says Ryzen etc, in the same format as the Ryzen lid writing, which they send back to Amazon or sell on Ebay. So the next customer to receive it gets an effing Athlon XP or Ryzen 1 or something with just a square sticker on the CPU to make it look like it is a Ryzen 3. Some people are scum.

I just hope they get to my claim fast. The issue is if they disappoint me and they decide to not resolve the claim for some reason, that would be a bummer.

If not, contact your CC and file a fraud claim/wrong product sent to you and store won't honor replacement/return/refund. Should work out in your favor at the end.

Sadly, I used a debt card. Thinking about it, when I don't have a CC, I should use PayPal ...

Ooof... that's a problem.
So if they deny, call them and speak to a manager. If they deny, call later and speak to another manager, if they deny... rinse and repeat. Because it's not right and doubly not right if they would deny your return. But look, they approved the other guy's return here, so should be good for you!

I'm sure it'll work out :)
Good luck! Keep us updated.

edit: if it comes down to you having to call them, point them to this thread, to show that this seems to be a problem with their internal staff pulling some shit and you're not making it up/the only one with this problem.

Just posting a final update on this. The replacement CPU arrived yesterday 1/22 and I'm typing on the machine now. Reported the problem on Saturday 1/9 and received the replacement on 1/22. Props to Newegg for handling this in the best way possible.

I'd think you could sell a working bare 10850K for $350 at least. If you're getting them for free (by stealing them), that's a pretty healthy profit. To the right underpaid warehouse worker, I can even imagine that being worth the risk. $350 is two or three weeks' worth of food, for my house.

A lot of families are struggling, I've had 2 packages disappear. In November it was a 2080ti and this month a rx5700xt. Both thru USPS and bought from people, not a online store. After that I bit the bullet and bought a 10850k and rtx 3070 locally to avoid that crap. At least newegg did right by these people
