“The SiSoftware database entry showcases a prototype system that has 16 cores and 32 threads running at the base frequency of 1.8 GHz and a boost speed of 4 GHz. There is 12.5 MB of L2 cache (split into 10 pairs of 1.25 MB) and 30 MB of level-three (L3) cache present on the processor. There is also an Alder Lake-S mobile graphics controller that runs at 1.5 GHz. Intel Xe gen 12.2 graphics is responsible for the video output. When it comes to memory, Alder Lake-S is finally bringing the newest DDR5 standard with a new motherboard chipset and socket called LGA 1700.“

Hoping I can snag a laptop with their 8/16 and a RTX 3070. That would be pretty dope.

Prototypes or not, the resulting frequencies are not going to be a hell of a lot better.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of Intel, or AMD for that matter, these engineering samples have dramatically reduced clock speeds. Not just because they're early parts that haven't been optimized or polished, but also deliberately to conceal their full performance.

This isn't something that companies do in order to swerve other companies, either. They do it to prevent current customers from holding on to their shekels for the next generation. Because who wants to buy GoodLake when GooderLake is just around the corner?

We already know they've got boosts dialed in at or over 5Ghz. If anything, these engineering samples are surprisingly high. Almost too high...

So basically another 14mm part, 300w tdp, requiring another motherboard chipset upgrade and pushed back for the next decade...

edit: I forgot an ipc boost of <5% over previous generation...

Well Intel is outsourcing their chip manufacturing so I expect these to be on TSMC 7nm or even 5nm.

Good grief there are some ridiculously stupid comments in this thread. Boost clocks will be much higher than what they are right now with these early samples and anyone with a clue knows that. And this will also be using a much smaller process than 14nm. And this will have a pretty decent IPC gain over rocket lake which already has a decent IPC gain over comet lake. Sometimes I feel like I'm in the YouTube comment section rather than a tech forum.

It's like people are hoping Intel keeps screwing up and fail.

I don’t care for the idea of an AMD monopoly....
Intel and AMD BOTH having good products that compete well with each other is what we should REALLY want.

The issue I think some people have is that even when AMD has the superior product, platform, price, efficiency, etc: There are still people who buy Intel just because. So We want Intel to suffer just a BIT more, so that AMD's mindshare can catch up and they can be on truly equal footing.

50 IQ voters bashing INTEL. :woot:

The never ending security exploits and performance/value losses are even worse than the unnecessary market segmentation that Intel has caused.
Hopefully the new management will fix this, along with putting a stop to cutting the corners that caused said security exploits and performance/value losses.

Well I have a lot of Intel because that's what I can buy, would I have liked to bring in a couple hundred of the Ryzen 4000's sure, but finding them is really hard. I hope AMD can one day get their manufacturing in order TSMC can only build them so many chips.

Let's hope they can do it before they pull another dozer. 🤣

No historical data of AMD keeping a lead that long, so I doubt it. 🤔
I dont go by historical data, just the technological lead, TSMC Fab and CPU future release slides. AMD and Sue dont BS around. Historical data is meaningless for a tech company.

Not necessarily - many companies have track records that change, fluctuate, stay the same, etc.
Perhaps historical data based on the administration in charge would be more accurate.

There's always a qualifier, Historical data typically refers to multi year chart analysis void of such data. Perhaps "buy the rumor, sell the news" is more relevant here,

Great quote that doesn't apply to Technology. Thanks for playing. It applies to politics, wars and social engineering.
"Santayana is remembered in large part for his aphorisms, many of which have been so frequently used as to have become cliché"

That quote applies to everything, and if you don't think so, I'm sorry for you.

These chips are going to be dogs.....

The question now is does the new CEO take this design and get the engineers to blueprint it for TMSC 7 or 5nm..... or do they do that with their Rocket Lake cores instead. The 10nm Intel versions don't seem to be what the market ordered to me.

Hopefully he has some grander plan for 3 years out... and hopefully Intel shareholders give him that long.

It's a processor. Outside of creative production tasks (and 1080p gaming) it'll probably boost day-to-day performance by single digits just like all the rest.

I'm just hoping intel gets kicked in the balls hard enough to give the New CEO enough juice to clean house.

Yes, but that is a misleading article title. From the article itself:
the company will announce its 12th Gen successor, the Core "Alder Lake-S" in September 2021
Notice that Intel will merely be announcing Alder lake then. No mention on when it will actually be released or when it will be available to market. Intel of late has been announcing lots of products that barely see light of day, or only start to show up a year or two after the press releases.
