It should be the day I get the Purchase Invite from EVGA for a RTX 3090 KingPin. I'm 3rd on the list and Jakob indicated there will be a drop today. ;)

Been 2 weeks since the last BB drop so good chance there is another today. And the FE cards haven't had prices increased.

Based on the discord channels Im in, there are around 100,000 people currently salivating over the next Best Buy drop. Since 7 am this morning. All ready to click the second anything comes available. I feel incredibly stupid being one of them.

In there too. Why not.

tell them not to bother, I'm planning to get them all.

considering the "not available in a 250 mile radius" rule of BB (translation: they don't ship so is quasi-in store only), I wonder what sort of chance people will have on average. I'm in California, so I expect very little chance at all.

I've gotten two cards on previous drops, one shipped to my local store, one I had to ship to a store 45 minutes away.

Same thing happened to me. Nor and So Cal may as well be two states.

make sure you aren't refreshing the pages once they go live.
Thanks for the tip. Last drop I had a 3090 in my cart but they wouldn't let me check out due to the 250 mile rule. Bummer. But realistically I just want a 3080 anyway.

You see, the card is already in our cart. The issue is we can't continue to the next step because BB says there are no cards available at the store we have selected.

And, thus, the game begins. Select another store, nope. Select another store, nope.

Sound like you live in a goldilocks location. BB hates the rest of us. Been doing this since launch and nada.

I understand, and I've encountered the same issue. I've had it show my local store as available, I select it, and nevermind not available select another store, ok do that, nope nevermind not avail within 250 miles. My point is once it is live and you are waiting for the add to cart, I think refreshing the page would then stick you on the end of the queue rather than wherever you were in line initially.

Best Buy is not shipping these GPU's?...in-store pickup only?

The 'Add to Cart' button is the dead giveaway. Never was compelled to refresh again once that shows up.

With the latest anti-bot measures, Add-To-Cart leads to a 'Please Wait...' or whatever. Definitely don't refresh when you see that. Then you get the real 'Add-To-Cart' button.

oh? How are you supposed to know when they go live?

Idling in some of the big discords is how I plan to be alerted. Just not sure after that if the buttons go yellow to add to cart on their own or if you need to refresh.

if you get a discord alert, it's already time. Get to BB website or app as quick as possible.

I already have 14 tabs open with every 3080 BB has, my question is once they're live, do i need to refresh the page for the Add To Cart yellow button to appear or does it happen on its own.

Not 100% sure, but if you don't see it, just refresh and see if it shows up, then you have your answer. For the record, the drop 2 weeks ago I was like 5 minutes late and still managed to get a card. I know most aren't that lucky, but if you are that prepared, 1 second to refresh a page isn't going to make or break it IMO. Either you will get a card or you wont.

Unless BB website has left a client open connection to their backend, your browser can't possibly know when they come into stock without some kind of active refresh. It needs info from the server to update the button. I don't think BB is doing anything fancy like this.

You have to actively refresh at least once once they go live to get the updated page, so you can click the Add To Cart. But if you refresh after the first time that update happens (i.e. second refresh)... well, that's up for debate.

I seriously doubt BB is doing some kind of client tracking and refresh count, but I suppose if you spam refresh enough... stupid bots ruining everything.

not sure what they do exactly. For all I know, it's just a dummy timer that shows add to cart after a duration on the page. Just be prepared when they ask you to do the second step, where you have to enter a code sent to your email.

Some instructions I got from one of the discords is to pick SMS and not email as the email method is significantly slower. Make sure you have a cell number in your BB account already.

I've seen you mention that before. I'm curious, is that after you have added the item to your cart AND selected the payment method? Or is that before?

Reason I ask is because it's never sent me a code. But I've never made it past the select payment page.

Just to be clear, my registered email is correct.

Good to know. I had no issue with gmail personally.

It is when it is in your cart, I guess you would say it is directly before the payment page, going from cart -> confirmation -> checkout, if I remember correctly. Could have it backwards though, it wasn't required when I ordered a 3090 in october, it is something they added in nov/december.

edit:
Just checked my email and my verification code came at 11:44, and my order confirmation came at 11:45, so it is very late in the checkout process, possibly right before place order, AFTER payment info is accepted. Sorry I can't be more precise, I just forget.

So what's the concensus as the "best way" to get something. Just have their main list open that shows all the cards of a particular type you want? Or open up a tab for each individual card you want. Will the grey sold out button automatically turn to the yellow button? I imagine some level of refreshing needs to occur just to be able to get into that secondary queue.

I hit the 'save' button on the product so it shows up in my cart, then I just go to my cart when I get notified and will see what is in stock.

For me I have always needed to refresh before the items would show up to add to cart. I just add what I want to my saved list like mentioned above. That and I also will search for Nvidia *card number*, then sort by GPUs/Video Graphics Cards, and it will list x amount of cards, I just refresh that page.

For me, it's always been simple. 3080 FE or bust.

You pretty much have to refresh/navigate-to the product page at least once immediately after the drop goes live. Regardless, the yellow 'Add To Cart' button is the indicator. This button is initially a fake button and leads no nowhere when you first click it. Just try not to refresh the page again if you can help it (if it's still not showing 'Add To Cart' while the drop is ongoing, then you're SOL?). Anyway, clicking the yellow button (first time) will start a background task you'll have to wait on. The very same button should immediately update with info about waiting. Once the yellow 'Add To Cart' button returns, you're free to click it (second time) and the page will update itself to the first step of the checkout process.

Then the real fun begins...

Edit: I would also recommend against using any script blockers. At least on BB's site. The anti-bot measures in play rely on the ability to run scripts.

Well if eVGA would just stop sending to stores and deal with everyone in the queue first... but yeah, buying power of Microcenter or Newegg even at a discounted rate is a better deal than individuals willing to give money right now, without any discount applied... because business!

I really thought that Best Buy would have a 3080 drop today...was F5'ing from 10:00- 12:00 EST...

Got in the que for a 10G-P5-3897-KR early December... doubt I'll get a notification before the mid April grandfathered price deadline.

No drop yet right? I guess I'll do important things like get food, and more importantly bathe 😬
Yeah I was convinced one was going to happen because I heard "Daddy, I want food" so me making breakfast for my kid ... yup it's going to happen, it's going to happen... it didn't happen!? !!!

Of course as the day goes on, my desire to keep checking gets lower and lower, like I know I'm still under lockdown in a pandemic but shit I got other things I'd rather do.

I hear ya. This pandemic has caused a lot of personal woes but hopefully this year will be better.
And breakfast with the family is important, as much as we want our toys lol.

But really I'm ok with my 1080ti for now as I'm still just playing Destiny 2 until I can get a 3080. I was able to piece together a new build, minus the GPU and it's way smoother than my 4970k setup.
