Immortals Fenyx Rising Ubisoft

A rip off of BoTW is a bad idea. With out the Zelda name the BoTW would of been a flop.

I disagree. I played BOTW and enjoyed it, but wouldn't call it worthy of the praise it got... really for the exact reason you've given. It was my first Zelda game, so there was no lore, no nostalgia, the setting and story meant nothing to me. I really wasn't even interested in it, but it came bundled with my Switch. Being a Zelda game didn't blind me to its flaws. It was still a decent game, just not the GOTY material everyone made it out to be. Now I'm playing Fenyx Rising, and it's great. It takes all the best parts of BOTW and improves upon them, and completely fixes the parts of BOTW that were lackluster. The art style is incredibly gorgeous, especially at 4K with HDR. The combat is so much better than BOTW, primarily because it borrows heavily from Assassins Creed. It's faster and more responsive and all around feels great. The story is good, the characters are funny and enjoyable, and everything is fully voice acted. There is no Nintendo jank here, everything is made to the stardard you'd expect out of a modern AAA title. The puzzles, especially later in the game, are fun and challenging, more so than BOTW's were. The world is small, but interesting to explore. I thought BOTW was too big, it was a slog to get around. It retains the stamina for climbing and swimming and whatnot, but I actually liked this feature (in both games). It made exploring challenging and allowed certain parts of the game to be locked away from the player until some work has been put into upgrading.

Seriously, I'd put my money on many of the things you don't like about BOTW being fixed here. It' got BOTWs looks and spirit, but its fixed basically everything about it. It's $30 on every platform ATM (which is what I paid), and it's seriously fantastic. That price is a steal. Had I paid $60, I would still not have been disappointed. This coming from someone who judges Ubisoft games very harshly these days.... it's probably the best game they've made since Black Flag.

I even had the Zelda nostalgia. It was one of the first NES games I played as a kid. I even loves the 2nd one. After OoT the Zelda games lost their luster. Hell I even liked a link between worlds for the 3DS better then any game that came after OoT. Horizon zero got robbed for GotY in 2017. It was the better game in every way.

Can't disagree with that. If BoTW was competing against only mobile games I'd consider it in higher regard. Even then, a number of PSP era games look more fleshed out like MGS Peace Walker and others. But compared to PC/home console games? Not even closes. Horizon was pretty much the same game, but with a far better story.

I started this one last night. Seems pretty polished. Kinda fisher price like. I'm hoping there is some depth here. Pretty game though.

I mean, it's a light-hearted action/exploration game, don't go expecting hardcore RPG depth or something. But it does have a lot of cool systems that are really fun to upgrade and gear with unique effects, so you can come up with pretty fun "builds." I love that the potions have their own upgrade trees - this is such a simple but effective design that I now wish every game that puts a lot of importance on consumables (i.e. CP2077) would use a similar system.

Is Ubiosoft Connect running? I had issues once where it would consistently CTD after the title screen. Force closing Ubisoft Connect and launching it again seemed to work.
tried that, didnt help. neither did reinstalling it and the game(c or any other).

I had an issue where the game wouldn't launch at all, just hung on the splash screen. Apparently both uplay and the game needed to be installed on my C: drive. Pretty fucking stupid, but moving them fixed it.

the quote you used says i tried that...

I have the launcher on C and the game on D, no problems

I hate when games dont have video options for which display you want to use. With this one, I have to disable the opposite display to get it to show up on the one I want. Pain in the butt.

I'm sure other aspects diverge a bit more (hopefully), but this looks like such a knock off of BoTW:

I would've thought Ubisoft would change it up a bit more. But even the small animations are so similar. Its kind of odd actually.

The video cherry picks quite a bit imo. A few aspects they show may not be as prominent in one game versus the other. Others are in lots of games too. Gamespot has a longer 17 minute video that came out recently which might be more in depth but I haven't seen it.

While they're very similar, I think they're unique in a lot of ways too. No stables in Fenyx Rising for instance, combat is very different, there's a story with dialogue and characters that has a big focus on humor, you can control the arrows speed/direction while it's in mid air, the scope to find new points of interest mechanic is very different too. Crafting/Resourcing isn't as big of a deal either in Fenyx Rising and you can't collect tons of different items like in BOTW (basically only 4 main ingredients are what you can collect to craft potions, plus 4 different materials to upgrade attack/defense)

There's things that are similar too of course. General climbing/exploring, towers to unlock parts of the map (Ubisoft has been doing this in every game of theirs though lol), Vaults of Tartarus are kind of like Shrines in BOTW (they're a lot more complex/longer though I feel), the Wings vs the Glider, etc.

Bottom line, if you like BOTW you'd probably like this game too.

there are some fair points here. having said that, why did Ghost of Tsushima get a free pass for being at least as similar to AC Origins and AC Odyssey?

After 5 hours in I can say this game is criminally underrated and under promoted. It's just FUN. I mean the graphics and light hearted banter go well together and the game loop never feels grindy. Combat is satisfying and can be complex depending on powers. I wish I would have started on the weekend so I wouldn't have to stop to work!

I bought this on my PS5. I knew nothing about the game going in, just looking for games made or enhanced for the console to play. I was like, "WTF is this?" Looked up gameplay videos and ended up buying it. It is definitely a lot of fun. I can see the comparisons to Breath of the Wild, but I am enjoying this game a whole lot more than I did that one.

Good looking game but feels zoomed out a bit on my 1080P 24" monitor I suppose everyone else is playing on TV screens not sure if I'll buy the game but I do like the graphics I thought they would be all washed out but it brings you in closer in than a AC game which is lots of textures.

I suppose the FOV adjustment could be lowered and it look better there is a slider.

I'm glad they provided a demo, was looking forward to this game but so far it's just kinda meh. Maybe it gets better?

I beat the game last weekend. Took me around ~40 hours. Really enjoyed it. I didn't do everything but I did a lot, to the point where I pretty much maxed out all my character skills and then some.

I wasn't a huge fan of the last portion of the game (climbing Mount Olympus.) They have some mechanics involved that basically make it a bit more linear which is not what I want from a game like this. But the story was pretty funny.

Still on the fence about the DLC, I think I'll wait till more content is released. I'm looking forward to the DLC set around the ancient Chinese myths.

Seems like a pretty cool game to me. I think the problem with it = timing. Ubisoft released it in the middle of a pile of other game releases...including two huge releases of their own. I forgot all about it. My plan is still to take advantage of UPlay+ and play through this, AC Valhalla, and Far Cry 6 over the course of a couple months during the Spring/Summer.

Not just that but the name is pretty bad and too long. Doesn't catch your attention nor is it easy to say or remember in conversation. The original name "Gods and Monsters" would have fit much better.

Ubisoft's release schedule is crowded, not that I care. Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed and Far Cry within 6-8 months of each other.

You'd think a game like this would be released winter 2021 when the higher profile titles are out of the way. Makes me wonder what Ubisoft has planned for late 2021 and 2022. DLC and a spin off Far Cry?

I think they're going to eventually go for long term usage. The game seems to have a lot of "content" pushed by Ubisoft, buying armor, coins, etc. There's a new vault of the week challenge. I bet this game would be free to play eventually and they'll hope to make money off skins and stuff.

Not sure how Genshin Impact does it (haven't played that game) but maybe they're going to do something similar?

Adjusting the FOV to 85 helps with immersion on my 24 monitor zooms in.
If the FOV adjustment is vertical then it should be 74 for every aspect ratio. If it's horizontal then it should be 106 for a 16:9 monitor and resolution.
