Camped all night microcenter. Nothing came in. Check amd site its down. We try and fail and you guys login before 900am and get a fuckn card...... im over this shit

I have never seen bullshit like this in 29 years of computing.
Rumor since the 6800/XT came out is that AMD has not been targeting brick and mortar with RDNA2 shipments. Camping out was probably always going to be a bad idea.

I am really excited to see how it does against the RTX 3080 with ray tracing.
It doesnt. The 6000 series barely do ray tracing and not really well enough to be playable in most games. If you really want ray tracing in your games then get an nvidia 3000 card. If ray tracing doesnt interest you yet then the bang for the buck performance is the 6800xt right now really.

After failing once again today, I am almost debating picking up a 3090 if I can, even though it is grossly over priced and goes against my better judgement. I have had multiple chances to buy one in the last week and I honestly think it may be a long while before I can get a 6800XT or 6900XT. I hate wasting $$, but at the same time, I game at 4k now and really can use lots more frames over my poor 5700XT.

I managed to grab one. Confirmation email arrived about 30 minutes after. But geez what a battle: am on travel and used my iPad mobile, kept getting same errors as others then finally says I was locked out of AMD site! Arghh... What worked was clearing cache and going back to the amd site and boom - 6900xt page, add to cart, enter info... done. Lol then my phone buzzes with my CC saying it was declined as security measure! Heart attack starts... but I replied to the auto-txt confirming it was ok and luckily it went through.

Also tried to snag a 5900 (no 5950’s in stock) but decided to not push my luck when I had the 6900 already in the cart. :)

You called it a battle and disagree completely with it being a battle that you were able to get one

If only 10% of you camped at a microcenter for even ine night to end up empty handed youd instantly agree what a battle to get a card really is like. Not wakeing up and struggling a few times to get a credi card to process is. Hey man no one cares anyways so why even mention it right?!

Why though? Like it seems like in store stock has been poor from the get-go for new launches this year. Companies have sort of stated they're going to limit in store inventory to limit being linked to the spread of covid (sony stated this).

You stand a much higher chance at Microcenter than contending with 100s of thousands of bot bitches.

I had a 3090 in my hands and rejected jt.

Ive had like 6 or 7 3070 vouchers and I already have one. Just zilch AMD cards. Yesterday 30 mins after I gave up a phantom truck arrived with 10 6900xts at mcenter. Talk about foul luck.

Point being, Microcenter is getting inv. Its just hard to get in queue in person at store when you have to work too.

Microcenter isnt worridd about covid at all. They dont even make you wear a face diaper when you go in. They could care less. Theyre not limiting anything.

That blows, sorry dude.

I'll enjoy my 6800 Reference card, I tried my luck yesterday with the 6900xt direct from AMD but nothing showed up on the direct-buy page until around 9:30. At that point I could add it to the cart but the Next Step button was hit or miss. Also I'm not sure wtf was going on, but more then a few times after entering my CC info and (eventually after many attempts) hitting Next Step, my CC info was removed and replaced with a totally different CC number that looked valid, along with an error from AMD that I needed to check the details of my CC info. I don't know too much about online coding so I'm not sure if it's possible things were so chaotic and busy that payment info bleed could happen and someone elses info was populated into mine? Because each time it happened my card info would be replaced with another number.

Anyways, I spent until 10:30 lol with the card in my cart and was able to make it to the final "Confirm Order" page multiple times, but by that point I kept getting an error saying "Change country, not available to your region". So I took that as a final Out of Stock since they do ship to Canada. I bought my 6800 direct from them. Frustrating experience.

So far I've managed to buy a 3080 MSI TrioX from Newegg days after release (son has it), I've received 2 evga emails for their virtual line-up que (one for the 3080 and another for the 3060ti) both which I turned down. I picked up a 3060ti MSI Trio direct from a brick and mortor early in the morning on release day (showed up 1/2hr before door opening), and finally was able to nab the 6800 direct from AMD on release day. So I'd say my luck with getting cards has turned out ok.

That’s not good especially since the AIB versions are significantly more expensive. If this is true, looks like AMD may have been pulling a quick one here releasing cards at lower MSRPs for the reviews and then quickly discontinuing them in place of more expensive AIB models.

Scummy. Sounds like they’re beginning to use Nvidia’s playbook.

Afaik, AMD stated they will start to ensure AIB models come closer to MSRP within the next two months. Who knows what that means.,

Nah dude its ok. Im not mad about gpus or anything. Well yesterday I was furious, explained in other threads. Im just conveying a side of the story many dont see. Many think that getting a little issue on AMDs store is horrible and a struggle.

Im just sharing how much worse it is in reality.

Im good I have a 3070 that aint no slouch and it will serve me well until actual inventory is sitting on shelves.

Yeah the scalping/botting douchebags have me on the sidelines for a while. Plus the card I want to buy (evga hybrid) hasn't even been released yet.

Who knows what closer means as it’s an undefined metric. Are we talking $50-100 closer to MSRP or only $10-25?

Guess we can only wait and see.

CowCotLand is a rag at best. Yesterday they said that VRAM constraints were the reason for NV supply issues. Not true, at all.
Do we have any updates on how AMD's backloading strategy has been working out? I know you and I were able to get a RX 6800 and 6900 XT yesterday. IME, I tried for several days to get a RTX 3000 from retail/etail, with no luck whatsoever. I only have a RTX 3070 because a [H]forum goer sold it to me at cost. For the RX 6800 launch, I tried a little bit on launch day, then got one on my first try yesterday. So anecdotally, it seems to be "working" to me.

I expect to see the majority of the cards in the retail channel in the last two weeks of the year. I have talked to AIBs, those are coming.

Hopefully you shared with Scott Herkelman how easy it was to get a 6900xt on launch day. He'll be glad to know he wasn't the only one able to snag a card off their website so easily.

Does that include the 6800XT or just the 6900XT in this context?
Do you reckon availability will be less/similar/greater than the 3000 series?

Wut? Mine sure as hell does. There a guy in full gab giving out hand sanitizer and checking for masks at the entrance. They shut down on Wednesday and do a deep cleaning every week.

I expect to see MBA 6900 XT cards to leak out slowly, but I do not expect any big inventory numbers till January.

I expect us to see a fairly large amount of 6800 XT AIB cards in the last two weeks of December.

I expect 3070/80/90 to be about in the same supply as we have seen over the last couple of weeks.

I think we will see a fairly large dump of 3060 Ti cards this month.

That all said, there are still is not nearly enough stock to satiate the Q4 TAM when you look at all the inventory from AMD and NVIDIA combined. Bottom line, there will not be enough cards to supply the demand. Both AMD and NVIDIA are going to sell every single GPU they can get to market in the next 3 months is my call. Maybe we see some relief in the end of Q1.

Keep in mind we have Chinese New year starting on February 12th and lasts a week or two depending on how it is being observed and this will also throw an obstacle in getting cards to market for Q1'21.

I have been keeping an eye on both MD locations, would be great if some cards or CPU's show up and stay in stock soon. The Rockville store told me that they have been selling out of Ryzen's within 2 hours of any delivery.

The Rockville one is too far and annoying to drive too for me. Parkville site never gets updated and the employees tell me people line up every day for the high ticket items. They even know who the scalpers are and see him selling stuff he bought on the morning on FB. That dude starts camping out the previous day on new releases. Only videos cards they have are old AMD 7750 and some 550-580s. They have gotten the newer quadros 4000s that no one buys. They even sold the over priced 2080s open box lol.

Oh it was certainly a battle... one that I managed to win. :) This took 35-40 minutes to achieve. I was determined not to give up.

Also left out the part where, thinking my CC had just screwed me and that my order would be cancelled, I tried to buy another one and spent 10 more minutes futzing with the checkout only to get “we’re sold out”! I just left it there and figured it is what it is, and then was pleasantly surprised to see the order confirmation email, and CC charge, appear 20 minutes later. Battle indeed.

Which location is that?

Parkville, MD.

The Micro Center closest to me (Flushing, NY) also has the hand sanitizer/mask checking in full effect, and also had days where they shut down for deep cleaning -- I feel very secure in there.

Marietta GA and Duluth also has deep cleaning, return quarantines, as well as mask and the alcohol dude, however, masks, which according to several international studies as well as stamped on the box, do nothing to prevent the spread of any viral particulate, are not enforced. They dont even ask you to leave.

Heres the ones they are requiring everyone to wear ...

Not being anti mask or political, just pointing out an observation, nothing more.

But Microcenter still refuses to get AMD gpus in any real quantity. Right now nV is supplying far more. At least local to Atlanta.
