The [H] RTX 3080 owners thread.

So this just happened this morning. On September 18th just a little before midnight, I notified eVGA to let me know when more GeForce RTX 3080 XC3 Ultra cards were to become available. I never got that notification but about 2 weeks after I set my notify eVGA created their retail queue system we all are aware of now. This morning, I got the email to get a GeForce RTX 3080 XC3 Ultra video card. I went ahead and canceled my Step-Up and got this card instead. Should be arriving in the next day or two. I'll post a photo here of the card when it arrives. Thanks. Out!

Well as promised everyone...my new video card would like to say hello:

How are you guys getting your hands on these cards?
I need to replace my 1080, it's killing me having to play games at 1080p on a 4k display.

I got mine through eVGA's notify retail queue system. I placed a notify me listing on the card I got on launch night back in September. My number finally came up, I got the email, checked my bank funds to see if I could cover it, and then when I saw I could picked it up. eVGA shipped it to me from Orange County, CA (Anaheim/Brea area) yesterday and I got it from UPS today. Out!

Yeah, I put in a notification request for two different models at 5:20am the morning of launch, still waiting. Hopefully I'll get mine in the next couple of days.

So I'm happy to say I was able to join the pool of owners yesterday with an EVGA XC3 Ultra. Found it at retail at our local chain that received some 10+ units and I was told they believe supply issues are finally relaxing and there will be much more stock soon. I was on the in-store wait list but only for a week. I had been convinced that this setup would be a complete Intel/nVidia to AMD switchover (after unavailability/disappointment with Intel HEDT pushed me to TR3), expecting the same to happen with GPU, but AMD desktop GPUs are nowhere to be found locally whereas the nVidia boards appear to be showing up. Our local chainhad 3070s and 3090s on the shelves, and again the 3080 wait seems to be a couple of weeks. They received ~100+ Zotac 3070s. They're charging a B&M premium but I'll take it! (Reference: RTX 30 Series (centralcomputer.com))

So far I love the card and the 3080+CX48 combo but screen flickering, flashing, GSync unavailability etc. at anything beyond 4k/60/8bpp makes me think my next step is to go get a better HDMI cable :) Played some AC Valhalla and Subnautica, and ran through various benchmarks, but until I can get a reliable 120Hz connection the fun will have to wait.

Question - there was supposed to be a CoD bundle deal with these cards - any idea where the redemption code is? There was nothing in the box. Nevermind, there was a slip of paper in the bag that I mistook for a receipt.

I follow a bot on twitter and it sends a message to my phone once they're in stock on a certain site. By the time I get there, they're usually sold out but typically there are restocks after that. So once I get that message, I just went to that site and hit f5 for a solid 10-15 min and eventually got one.

twitter or twitch?

Can you link to it please?
@BotRtx is his tag on twitter. Follow that and make sure twitter pushes the notifications to your phone. Like I said, by the time you get he notification it's usually sold out but I had luck by hitting refresh right after getting that tweet because more stock usually drops after the initial one. Good luck!

Waiting for it to arrive but was able to snag a bundle from newegg. Should arrive Friday for my new build. I was following following a few discords and twitter accounts to get notifications. Ended up getting the newegg "we are going to stock things at x time" message, refresh at that time and was able to add to cart. Best of luck to all those still trying.

I have had my 3080 Strix for a month... very good card but the additional performance over my former 2080 Ti is a bit disappointing
The biggest advantage is the support of HDMI 2.1, which allows 120FPS at 4K.

The upcoming 3080 Ti will not be much faster (10%?) so I guess it is what it is until the 4080 in 2023...

This Strix is a nice overclocker:

Pretty sure on a waterblock I might get near 2200 mhz. I can only imagine how much better these cards could’ve been on TSMC. Shame.

Edit: Still has OC headroom on air:

my ftw3 oc to 2100 @ 1v but i have to set it to 2150 , no matter what i set it drops about 40 mhz. then settles at that number solid.
If i want 2000 i set 2040, it locks at 2010..mhz

Does anyone know of a way to permanently disable RGB lighting on ASUS cards? Their Armoury Crate software (which you need to access ‘AURA Sync’, to control lighting affects) does not automatically launch on windows startup and frankly I’d rather just delete the software if I can. RGB software is just a shitshow right now, and I’m living in rainbow hell. Corsair iCue (mouse), Gigabyte RGBFusion (mobo), ASUS AURA Sync (gpu).

Pretty sure there must be a wire you can unplug that would turn the lights out. I took a black sharpie to my Asus Tuf to at least dim things a bit :p
