And that right there is what it all boils down to: what the customer prefers. Neither one of these cards is the clear cut "winner".
16 GB of superfluous, presently useless VRAM vs ~25% extra raytracing performance? I understand people are concerned about future-proofing but one is a feature that may never matter (ie: DirectStorage/RTXIO/supersampling could alleviate VRAM requirements) and another is one that is useful today. If raytracing becomes ubiquitous, then the RX's performance loss is a global loss across the board.

I'm a VRAM doomsayer (I think the 3080 is going to crash and burn within a year or two) but I wouldn't sacrifice upfront raytracing performance for more VRAM. I would rather gamble on being wrong about my VRAM predictions in exchange for raytracing performance.

Exactly you do what fits your use case best this was about OP who said he doesn’t care about ray tracing. Now what you or I care about. That is the main point.

You should probably stop analyzing things more than you need. I'm sure OP knew what I was referring to without me having to give him a lesson on electrical engineering. But hey, that's what people like you are for. Checks and balances.
I appreciated his knowledge and found it useful and interesting and exactly what I was hoping for coming to [H] with that question.

Bagged myself an EVGA 3080 XC3 Ultra today off Facebook Marketplace. Guy was selling it for -RETAIL-. Jumped on it and here I am.

Now what?

You can have a bath, go back to work, reconnect with your girlfriend, tidy up ...
Plenty of life to get back on track now the emergency is over ;)

So it seems like the 3080 already has issues with VRAM. I've been playing the COD game that came with the 3080 and everytime it hits 9GB+ it crashes. I basically have to turn off RT for the game to work. I am playing at 4k for reference. I am going to test on my RX6800XT to see how much COD gobbles up.

Got it to be some external issue and not a vram problem, otherwise everyone would be talking about this. Also don't confuse allocated VRAM and actually in-use VRAM.

So far, which card do you like more?

Also when you overrun VRAM, games don't crash, they just use system RAM and performance takes a nosedive. At least that is how things normally work.

Well as far as I know the error messages are literally about COD not being able to read something in memory. So I think it is VRAM. For reference the error code I get is 0xC0000005. But the only thing I have changed is to turn off RT and it hasnt crashed at all today, but VRAM hasnt hit close to 9GB yet with RT off.

I got the RX6800XT first but had a lot of issues with drivers so I bought the 3080 and I haven't had any issues except with COD. I have the EVGA 3080 FTW3 Ultra so it would be unfair to really compare a $810 card to a $650. Honestly either card is fine performance wise. Both cards hit my 4k60+ mark. I don't really care for RT but I decided to try it once I got the 3080. I havent set up my LG CX48 yet to play at 4k120 so I will see.

That error is a memory error. Not VRAM. What are your overclock settings on the computer?

None, everything is stock.

I do use XMP profile for my ram though.
Yep, sounds like an issue. Sometimes the Intel XMP settings don't work so well on AMD boards. Turn off XMP and see what happens.

Just got my EVGA 3080 XC3 Ultra installed. DDU'd the old drivers and installed the new ones.

Ran Superposition 4K optimized and got ~14,300. Real nice improvement over my 2080S. Later tonight I'll see what it can do in Borderlands 3.

Weird I did memtest and didnt show any errors.
I concur with what others have said. I have the same card as you and run CoD maxed out with RT on high and haven’t had any issues. Maybe see what voltage your memory is rated for and bump it up a bit or slow it down a bit.

Can also try repairing/reinstalling CoD - I wonder if it "remembers"/inserts/tweaks some AMD specific stuff from when you had the AMD card and it's now all confused? =/

Never had it installed with the amd card since I got it free from the 3080. Also ran DDU before I installed the 3080 and reinstalled driver again when I had issues.

I am a Warzone hog and had zero issues with my Inno3D RTX 3080. What you are having is an individual problem mate.

The page for the 3080 FE on Best Buy's website just changed the button from "Sold Out" to "Unavailable Nearby". Could this mean they might be coming to stores or something else unrelated?

On the app a few are now showing “Coming Soon” for me.

BB all sold out - they had a weird thing that made me think I could get one - but it would not initiate the 2 part confirmation process.

Too much site activity I guess.

Then it shifted to sold out

I've actually been very successful with Best Buy's system. Have secured a 3080 XC3, 3090 FE, and a 5900X through it over the past few weeks. Its actually pretty decent as it incorporates a mini-queue system as well as a 2 step authentication system (text/email) that likely trips up some bots.

I got one into my cart that said it was available for pickup nearby. Was pretty excited, but then when I went to checkout, it changed its mind and it wasn't available within 250 miles. Fucking BB.

I agree with exlink - I secured my kid a new Xbox via the system, and I appreciate their efforts to stop the bots. Newegg on the other hand - does not seem to care

BB is at the mercy of the mfrs sending product. I just wish I could have stumbled upon it sooner

Darn, I missed out since I’m running errands. Oh well, maybe next time.

Ladies and gentlemen...it's done. eVGA today out of nowhere (like a Randy Orton RKO) sent me the email to order a GeForce RTX 3080 XC3 Ultra. I checked my bank accounts, knew I could easily cover it and it has been ordered! I will be exiting out of the Step-Up Program and my card should be arriving before the end of the week. I'll make sure to post a photo of the arrived card when it gets to my home. Thanks. Out!

Did you enter the queue in September?
