How can people who really want a 3080 still not have one? There are tons of streams and stocks are replenished quite often. If you really want one you would have had one by now.

If you casually wake up in the morning and check stock to try and get one then yeah good luck.

well there is not much of a difference between 3080 and 3090 anyways. I think people are confused I highly doubt there will be a 3080ti unless nvidia kills 3090. Given the difference in performance and the chip size. It will just be 3080 with 20GB at 999.99. I highly doubt you are going to get super or Ti until there is a full refresh next september or so.
I’m just going off of the latest rumors. Kyle even posted hearing about it from his sources a couple weeks ago so it aligns with what other tech news outlets are reporting. The rumors back in early October were of a 3080 20GB launching in December for $899. But then in late October they were apparently scrapped for a 3080 Ti 20GB to be released in January. Basically a 3090 with a reduced memory bus, 4GB less VRAM, and no NVLink support for $999.

yea true. Thats why I said if they do come out with a 3080ti with little more juice it will basically kill the 3090. May be nvidia then will unlock the 3090 with some pro features for extra 500 lol.

3090 is basically just a Titan, and folks have always known that. It'll keep it's value for those that need the outright memory & bandwidth for applications beyond just gaming.

Good you got it. But please don't pretend like you didn't get it at the right time. You make it sound like anyone can go and buy it whenever they want. I have yet to go to website in two months and see 3080 ready to buy lol. So yea they are still hard to come by lol. And I have checked amazon, bestbuy, newegg every fucking day lol.

They’re hard to come by but much much easier than big navi. Ive bought 3 ampere cards now, strix for me, 3090 to a buddy and now this evga to another. Have had zero luck with 6800 xt.

Well. It should get better and better over next month or so. Just launched leas then 2 weeks ago so makes sense lol.

Well lets hope 6900 XT has decent supply because I'm trying to get that for myself.

One the advantaged of an RTX 3080 - It can heat a room in the winter. Just run Folding @ Home, and it will keep your space nice and toasty.

I imagine supply will be even worse than the 6800 XT as they will probably have to be near perfect chips to gain 8 CUs while retaining the same clock speeds at the same 300w TDP.

Well they did hold off the launch but 3 weeks so to me it seems like building inventory for more profits. Hopefully it lasts a few mins but bots be damned.

Amd did have 6800xr today in stock. Couldn’t add it to cart and then bamn gone. Lol.

What time were they in stock? I was checking around 8 AM CST but never saw anything come in stock. Just got the all too familiar "AMD.COM - OUT OF STOCK" button.

If you are clicking a button, you already missed it. Bots are hitting the API directly.

Discord notification around 10:27 am eastern. I clicked it and add to cart button was there but kept trying and couldn’t add it. I am sure bots know it before notifications come so it’s hard to get it unless you are sitting there and refreshing these days lol.

It was out of stock like 10 seconds after I hit nottificstikn link.

Sure. If you have hours and days to sit at a pc continuously monitoring stock levels. Some of us have a life and don't want wasting our time chasing cards. I'm in that group. Will just try when they are abundantly stocked.

You’re doing it wrong if you have to sit at a pc hitting f5.

You're doing it wrong if you have to buy a bot to buy it for you.

I don't condone the scalpers, but I see no issue with end users making the choice to use a bot. This is coming from someone who is waiting for the stock to normalize before buying one.

My 3080 was only using around 50-65%. Turns out my XMP was turned off in bios. After I turned that on, my GPU is now being used at 100%.

Guys convince me to stay green... I got the 3080 by chance just in case I wasn't going to be able to get a 6800XT, which so far I haven't managed to... The card works great, but the 10GB memory really worries me compared to the 16GB in the 6800 line. Can you say anything to sway me away? (I don't have much interest in Triple-A RTX/DLSS titles)

lol. its your money I don't know if I feel right convincing you. 10GB shouldn't matter for now but how long you plan on keeping the card? I haven't bought 3080 for that specific reason since I plan on keeping the card for 2 years. Lok like RDNA 3 is targeted for 2022 as well so works out. No interest in DLSS or RTX for now. Native all the way if the card can run it, why not right? lol. I guess keep it to see how you like it. Its a good card and if you see 6800xt you can send it back if you really wanted that in the first place or sell 3080 here. Sure someone will take it off your hand easy retail price.

if I end up having a shot at 6900xt next week I might just go that route. AMD had 6800xt in stock today but can't fight the bots, so don't expect to get 6900xt either but I will try lol.

That 3080, even with 10GB of VRAM (which personally I feel was way overblown of an "issue"), gives infinite exponent infinite times the frames the 6800XT you don't (and probably won't for a while) have.

If anything, someone [H]ere will gladly buy it off you once you get that 6800XT.

I am hoping I won't feel I have to upgrade for 5 years, but I don't play the latest and greatest tech. I like the indie titles but some of them have decent graphics and I like max settings, and want that constant 165 fps for my 165hz 1440p monitor. So I figure high end is a decent idea if I want to maintain 165 fps in medium-demanding titles on all high settings for 5 years, right? That's why the 16GB appeals more to me on a 5 year-long basis I guess

At 1440p you'll be fine with 10 gb of vram. If some weird game comes out and goes above that, just turn down a single setting to get w/in the vram limit. Not really a big deal IMO. Yes the 16 gb on 6800 XT is more attractive but then that's the trade off you make between the two brands. They each have their pros/cons.

In your case 6800xt might be better. Longer term also it seems to be faster fps for lesser demanding games at 1440P. I would go that route even overclock it a little. But most places have returns until January so you can always exchange with in your rights if you don't like the 3080. Or as we mentioned someone will grab it here even at MSRP.

Is DLSS very difficult/expensive to implement in titles? How come there are so few titles with them? If it sticks around and doesn't die off for being proprietery and something only a tiny portion of video gamers have access to, it's probably still not going to seep down to indie/smaller studio games, right?

well at 1440p in less demanding title 6800xt seems to be faster though. So its not even about ram at this point for his use case.

At the end of the day it's up to the buyer to decide if they are playing the games that have DLSS or not. My choice is the 3080, simply because I have an Acer X27 monitor, and I plan on sinking hundreds of hours into 2077. The nvidia features are important to me.

So, business as usual!

Yea its hard these days. You see this shit up on ebay right after purchases and shit. Its really worst then anytime I have experienced before. I am all for some people making little money but its become a business practice now almost like unauthorized sellers using bots to buy things and then selling that product on ebay. Technically shouldn't be allowed but it is what it is. Hopefully companies wills step up and something can be done to make it illegal for large groups to buy a shit load and sell them online.

When there is a gap of large enough size between any of the plates to have significance to the frequency passing through the coil, it can whine.
Thats it.
Exactly, like I said. Electrical interference. But thanks for the unneeded lesson on how stuff works.

Interference suggest something else is complicating the problem other than the device in question.
Well done for making that clear.

You should probably stop analyzing things more than you need. I'm sure OP knew what I was referring to without me having to give him a lesson on electrical engineering. But hey, that's what people like you are for. Checks and balances.

This whole situation has me torn on whether I should keep trying to get one of the new cards or not. I want one because I love the hobby but even I have a stopping point. I tried for a 3080 for about a few weeks after they launched then stopped since it was getting close to the launch of the 6800 XT. Now I'm back at it again. Who knows how long I'll keep trying to get a card.

If you understood what you are talking about it would help.
Strange you didnt bring it up earlier.

How many numbers of smaller games would have took advantage of DSSL at common resolution (you are running at least a 2600 RTX, usually that should mean running that smaller game on 1440p at a good framerate)

I am not sure how difficult those motion vector for predictive feature are to make for a game, but:
1) Tiny percentage of gamers had the feature
2) The number of game that do not run fast enough on a Turing video card for dssl to be useful on a common enough resolution are probably not that many.

Seeing how common intelligent upscaling seem to be on the new console (about no game run all the time at 4K or at any time, but they seem to often do the upscaling on the console instead of the TV and not a bruteforce one), I could see DSSL becoming quite popular on the next console supplied by Nvidia gpus (say a new Switch)

They're more or less equal:

DigitalFoundry review says they prefer the 3080 because of raytracing and they don't care about 16 GB (they actually said AMD should've used 8 GB to reduce cost).

HUB is the exact opposite and say they prefer the 6800XT because it has 16 GB and they don't care about raytracing.

And that right there is what it all boils down to: what the customer prefers. Neither one of these cards is the clear cut "winner".
