Tried for both a 3080 FE and a 5950X in the Best Buy drop this morning but couldn't get either into cart. :(

I had a FE 3090 in my checkout for like 15 minutes it kept saying it was available for pickup then pick another store and back again until it finally said out of stock so getting into the checkout is not really that important lmao.

I don't know that this will be the case. There is generally less demand for AMD graphics cards vs. Nvidia. If AMD has more stock available than the pittance that Nvidia launched with, combined with somewhat less demand, it should make for general availability for longer than 1 second as was the case with Nvidia's launch.

Navi and the Radeon VII were both available for most of launch day (at least several hours) before they sold out.
this didn't age well

You actually didn't. You were 4 times more likely to score a 6xxx card than a 3xxx card on launch day...bots or no bots.
In which market ? It seem many market had 0 6xxx card at launch, instead of almost none.

If you are getting those numbers from the polls posted here then I’d rethink.

The polls weren’t even identical in voting options and thus are unable to be reliably compared. The Ampere poll didn’t have an option for “didn’t try” which skews how many people could’ve not tried at all but instead just voted “no” instead. Additionally, people likely prepped better (actually online at launch time and pre-logged in, etc) for the Big Navi launch after seeing the nightmare that the Ampere launch was. Several people were unprepared for the Ampere launch.

Not to mention 2 vs 8 out of hundreds is pathetic no matter how you want to spin it. They’re within each other’s margin of error. You could rerun these scenarios in simulations (if you could properly identify all variables) and I bet in the end it’d be a wash.

Overland park microcenter has at least six 3070s left after morning rush. I saw msi and some Asus ko's

Since I'm not near a Micro Center, are you saying that after a long line up, you can still go there and simply pick up a 3070? Without waiting in line to enter? WHATTTT?

With their AIB pricing, you're right. Too bad Nvidia is also hoarding chips for Ti models.
We all lose.
The 3080 Ti chips will likely be pulled from the lot of chips currently used in 3090s. Out of all Ampere cards, I've seen 3090s dropping far more often than the 3080s. I see numerous 3090s pop up across various retailers daily. Honestly, it's not that hard to pick up a 3090 anymore since they seem to drop the most often but they're also the most expensive by a fair margin so their demand is lower than the other models. So I'm not sure if Nvidia is hoarding chips for Ti models since we wouldn't see as many 3090s drop as we do if that was the case.

Meanwhile for the vast majority of people who don't live within a reasonable distance of a Microcenter, we have to play the "can I beat a bot" game... by basically using bot like tools to find them in the first place.

Almost like "in person only" has actually stopped hording (and the eventual scalping) of those cards. Wouldn't shock me if getting the AMD cards or their Zen 3 cpus might also be possible.

Yes, so they came out and asked what people were wanting and gave vouchers to those who were in line at maybe 8:30. i arrived at 8:50 and they let people in maybe ten at a time to not overwhelm the parts guys. They then took 4 at a time up to pay. by the time i got in there were a couple people in front of me and none of us had vouchers from outside. So they told us what they had left and we took our pick (it was only 3070s left). People near front of the main line had there pick of all kinds of stuff, apparently it was a pretty good truck last night.
When i posted earlier there were no more people waiting for cards and i saw in the back room at least 6 left. i think they had a couple 5600x's left as well.

It is more likely no one is buying 3090s anymore cause they are a terrible value at $1500 let alone at scalper's prices. With the 6900xt due in a few weeks and the rumors of a 3080ti on January the market for them is very small. 3080 continue to be out of stock every where.

The 6900XT and the 3080ti are going to be impossible to buy for a few months though.

Quick update, very time sensitive. Overland Park Microcenter had around 15 or so MSI Ventus 3070's in stock. This was about 70 minutes ago.

If you are in KC, there might be a few 3070s in stock if you can run down there NOW.

I am going to build a few systems for friends so I've been down there myself a lot. I have a 5950x and a 5900 to use. Just waiting on Dark Hero's.

I will try and update this thread as much as possible to help people in the Kansas City area score GPU's and CPU's.

Good luck.

Someone must've cancelled an order. There was 1 $1800 WM sold card a second ago in addition to the scalpers $2500 obscenity.
