And I disagree because conciousness is not digital and is not store and forward.

It is quantum and we cant even begin to understand the quantum realm

There is no way in hundreds of years we will have the tech to copy quantum and sub quantum and dimensional quantum information.

My "upload" assumption is that we reliably resolved the issue of what is consciousness. I think the article only proves we dont understand the brain well enough - yet, to do this. I simply think that once its possible you will be you. Hell Id be fine with them hooking my brain up to a neural interface and living in a robot body until then.

But why? You wouldn't be enjoying many things that you can, with human body!😟💔

Because when this meat sack fails I want to be able to wait out the replacement time and get a new one ;). Dont get me wrong I like the meat sack I am in now but if it was between that and well whatever the alternative is - then I will take this. There is still too much to see and do in this universe for me to get bored with it anytime in the next millennia.

A persons character will change without the body, gut flora + what is eaten, daily routines, experiences etc. being considered.
The body uses nutrients up as you do different things and supplies nutrients+signals depending upon what it does/how it is treated, this affects what the brain gets.
Even the brain can change what is in the bloodstream, signals, nutrients ...
A full analysis of the nutrients/signals supplied to/from the brain and the effects on every part of it and the body must be done.
It will be one heck of a simulation if corners are not to be cut on the personality.

It will be quite interesting how your new body will wake up and say 'hello' to you while you are still alive.
Kind of proves that the new body isn't you, but a new person.

Haven't you seen The 6th Day (2000)?

I have. Have you read Old Mans War? That is more like what I am thinking about or perhaps more like The Commonwealth Saga by Peter Hamliton. In my thought the meat body me doesnt wake up and the consciousness is totally transferred. Though I do think it would be interesting to have copies - though they would diverge the moment of separation - and merging would be interesting.

Anyway both of the stories I referenced deal with the issue of copies, incomplete transfers etc. Very interesting thought experiments.

It's possible that it could be conscious, or he could be conscious, but not at the same time (sorta like quantom theory), but the issue is making it compatible with our consciousness. If it's not, then it may not just not work–it could have serious reprecussions.

I read it several years ago. I remember at the time thinking that given how little information he was given, he has know way of knowing if his consciousness really DID move or if he was a copy. Given how the rest of the trilogy unfolded I wouldn't have been surprised to find out new recruits were lied to.

Ah, so you are thinking more cut and paste, rather than copy and paste?
This would be similar to the mind transfer used in Chappie (2015).

Hopefully one day we will get to that point, but I think the best we can hope for is a brain case, with our original brains, like those used in the various Ghost in the Shell medias.

Glad there are bans.
No one should be forced to have something in their bodies.
It will happen eventually. Every baby born will be chipped. In the name of safety and convince people will gladly accept it. It started with smart phones then people openly inviting devices in their home that constantly listen to you. They are just easing the tip in atm.

I agree.
I went shopping last week and wanted to buy a poppy (to help war vets) but it wasnt possible without scanning a code with a phone.
An rfid type chip in the body will be touted to give quicker and easier access to places/services etc. and eventually wont be possible without one.
It is sure to get abused though.

It will become the norm to be given one at birth.
But so will deceptive practices when they make it so quick and easy to steal a tag (kill the owner?) to gain access to somewhere secure.
Which means many other methods of verifying the owner will be needed otherwise national security will have no value.
Which lends the question, why have the tag?

The same problems will come around with or without it, only made worse in the short term with it.

I agree with you but there are some who would point that for the "greater good" these, and other things, should be required. I dont think we should even be putting this kind of stuff into people until we have baked in some serious security.

My thoughts too.
Name & shame the place. Also, was this special restriction only on poppies, or would you have been unable to buy bread (or a book, or a tv, whatever the store might sell) without it? Also also, was this a QR code or what?

Must be local, I got a dozen with cash.

They are small plastic poppies, it is a yearly event in the UK where we buy and wear them to show support.
The amount given is up to you, it all goes to the war vets charity.
This was at Tesco shopping centre.
Normally a person sells them but due to covid it is phone only and they are 'sold' at the till using a QR code.

My point isnt to shame Tesco, they are helping. (though it should have been part of the shopping bill to open it up for everybody)
I was describing how easily we shift to this type of system when there are other better options.

We have the same tradition here in the States.

I will never understand the transhumanist.

Anyways youre going to get exactly what you ask for in the end but youre not going to like what you get.

Toys study your children, reporting their habits to marketers. Appliances, consoles and home security systems give corporations a window into your private life. You may think you are immune or underestimate the risks, but your digital shadow is already compromised. Insurance companies use algorithms to monitor your life habits and can limit or deny coverage. Health providers determine if your cancer is worth treating. Search results and news feeds are skewed to bias mood and influence your vote, engineering social uprisings on a massive scale. Who needs implants? Every cop knows tracking and examining cell phone data is all they need to solve a case.

I'll agree to upload my consciousness to a digital media, only if I can appear as a Max Headroom look alike, with his ability to move through the world of electronics.
