So now we come to the $64,000 question for today's launch: Bot-wielding scalper impact! Would you say their impact today was either light? Moderate? Or heavy? Out!

I dont think too many bots got this one at least direct from AMD website. There certainly are people scalping the one they got, but as far as other avenues of purchase of this card this morning I am 110% certain the bots got all those.

Yeah I think AMD was one up on the bots. It sucks that links to buy the cards were not well advertised, not just for AMD but Newegg as well I found, but I see it as a good thing.

Best Buy is still showing "coming soon." Frank Azor's BS about launch day means he needs a demotion or a firing.

Just left MC in Maryland and told me there was nearly 80 people on line this morning. There was a guy here 5 pm since yesterday. They said they saw the card on FB right after with the sticker still on it. The guy there first in line for everything. They had 17 total cards this morning.

If I was 20 again, sure I'd go lineup... at my age, hell no, my wife would kill me lol.

Well, according to Kyle I don't think it'll be a dud launch. It may take a week to restock but it sounds like it'll pretty much be daily or close to that, and sounds 100x better than NV.
I hope you and Kyle are right

Yea really. I am thinking twice to go camp out for a 3080ti. I was planning to go there at 5am but if people already lining up the day before...
Assume he gets double for it - that's a nights work for $700. Lot of folks would take that money.
People with no Jobs. I was up the day the 3 series released and it was instantly sold out. Today I was up at 5:45am, was ready at 6am and newegg didnt even show the 6 series for sale until close to 6:05 by which it was sold out. AMD's website actually allowed me to add a 6800 to cart and check out only to tell me it was sold out when i clicked "place order" I've been trying for months at this point. I can't sit at my desktop for hours f5ing constantly. Pretty frustrating.

I don't know man. Im glad im not trying to buy any of this shit right now.

If he was first in line at 5pm, that means he waited 16 hours. Assuming $700 profit, he made over $40 / hour. That’s like 3 weeks of working a minimum wage job. Given the choice between the two, I’d scalp shit all the time too.

Looks like he sold it for $1100. It is not up on FB anymore. There no other 6800/xt on FB near me surprising. I haven't been watching it but his was the only one I seen.

Well, while this is anecdotal and insignificant, currently 450% more readers of HardForum have purchased 6800 cards compared to 3080 cards at this point in the launch. LOL!

Wow id say you have winning stats there!

I had a 3090 Strix in my hands at store today and gave it back to Microcenter becaue im really hoping this time.to get a 6800xt. When handing it back I felt as if I made a huge mistake but youre putting my choice at ease so far.

Amazon doesnt even have cards listed how did you see one?
The links were up just before 5am. Power color if you are relying on the search it wi only show whenever they are in stock. The links by people with better amazon skills than I have been available.

Why even tweet that though... ok, maybe he doesn't have special access and isn't given priority to buy one, but still, as an AMD rep, why would you toss that in everyone's face knowing most couldn't get one, and the cherry on top is he's the one who made that $10 bet.

Just started looking through this after getting home. Hmm, kinda deja vu of nvidia launch complete with the 80k ebay listings. Was going to try knocking myself out on the 8th for a 6900xt but now thinking it will be another carbon copy attack of the cloned bots.

Managed to get a 6800 from Micro Center today. Walked up to it about 10 minutes before it opened, scanned a QR code to get into their virtual queue, and since they didn't have any not claimed and left. Got a text around 1 that they had one for me if I was still interested. Drove back and picked it up.
I'll count myself lucky that I have a nice B&M nearby.

Even this Frank guy who works at AMD couldn't grab himself a XT model, he had to settle for a vanilla 6800 :ROFLMAO: talk about short supply

I'm one of those idiots that sold his 2070 Super a week prior to the Ampere release. I had no idea, call it blind ignorance but I had no idea it would result in me being unable to pc game for months on end. Decided to shift my money into a new hobby " road bike" only to find out they are all sold out and the earliest I could hope for a delivery would be April of next year lol. Now I'm just going to travel with my money and explore my state "which is locked down" until all this garbage blows over.

Wow, thats terrible luck lol.

Why not just delay the launch by a few months to make sure you have a enough stock? Is it really that hard? AMD screwed up just as much as Nvidia did. The problem is there is a lot of money hungry people due to the pandemic so they'll scalp anything to make a few hundred bucks.

If I had to guess it would be to rake in the money now while their product is hot. The longer they delay or wait the greater chance people shift their money into other things "like me". I've had the money, I'm bored and i'm very done "waiting around' for product to be avaliable. And i'm too stubborn to pay extra to a scalper just because...F that.

That makes no sense for a company to store products for months that they can sell today

Sell it as fast as you can make it, cards traded/scalped in the public is not really their concern anymore and is in the realm of supply/demand. For a company that makes this stuff, it is best to sell every single one as quickly as possible to recoup the r&d cost and build capital for the next project. Sitting on product to build supply sounds good only to the consumer.

Why not? Apple does it with Iphone releases. Are there enough for absolutely everyone who wants one? Of course not, but there is a substantial amount of stock so that a significant portion of the people who want one can get one on launch day or maybe just after. Otherwise a lot of people would just switch to another brand or keep their existing for several months if not the whole generation.

The only reason there's leeway right now for AMD and Nvidia is that the GPU corporate duopoly both have no stock AND both major high end consoles are all releasing at the same time with the consoles also being sold out. Note, the consoles did have more stock from a longer pre-launch production time than these 30XX and 68XX GPUs to fill more pre-orders. If the consoles weren't also sold out a number of potential buyers for the better graphics would already be switching for the simpler and more immediately gratifying experience of buying a console.

You can warehouse 10x as many iPhones as these video cards... Also, they probably push out 10x as many iPhones at a time than GPUs... or more.

Apple also sits on billions of reserve cash. Some companies can afford to hold off their products. Apple owners tend to really keep to their ecosystem. Apple's refresh cycles are longer than GPU where we usually see an interim ti/super version in 6-8 months.

If anyone here has an RX 6800/XT in hand, I would really love it if you could run the 3DMark DirectX Raytracing Feature Test. I'm curious to see how AMD fares in this test.

Let's get back to the topic of the thread, please.

Warehousing products you can be selling isn't cheap.

Tried to buy a 6800XT this morning. I saw the cards go live on AMD's website, but was unable to add to cart. Same deal at NewEgg. Never saw them live anywhere else.

Slightly off topic but one of my biggest frustrations with the shopping experience right now is that searches on Amazon and NewEgg don't return these cards. I've had to hunt for links and bookmark them. I don't understand why they are obfuscating the product pages.
