None of the Canadian sites showing them, memoryexpress showed them last night but guess it was an error. 9am EST seemed to be a release time for today but i guess not.

FrgMstr do you have any info on when the onsale time is gonna be? i'm just not finding even listings for cards anywhere. I called both B&H and Adorama Camera. B&H told me they will not be carrying the cards at all (???) and Adorama said they are "waiting on a truck" and "will update the website when they arrived because they don't know how many or what they are getting". have you heard anything?

AMD Site not working again, so probably sold out already.

15 minutes ago. Some retailers are just getting stock TODAY, so some will not be on embargo time.

AMD had the 6800xt showing, but the add to cart button didn't work. Refreshed the page, it's gone, now only the 6800 showing and the add to cart button doesn't work. They're gone...bots.

Errr...so how'd you all do?
dissapointing end to a REALLY bad week for me. Got locked up in DC this weekend. But there are still 6800's and AMD's site but I gotta have the XT or it's a no go for me.

yep. surprised i haven't seen any on ebay yet.

Day is not over yet. I refuse to give up until BB says 'Out of Stock' rather than 'Coming Soon'

(Said in a grim, rather than hopeful tone)
I will quote myself from another thread.

AMD MBA cards will be in short supply up front. However, where you saw NV front-load almost all its cards, AMD is backloading. Once AIB cards hit, you will see 5 to 7 times the inventory released than what NV has shipped total in NA at this time. AMD will be heavily back-loaded into the channel. AMD is shipping ASIC BOM kits nearly daily to AIBs at this point and it will continue to happen throughout Q4. There will be a decent supply through Q4.

Now let me say this again as it is worth hearing. There is no way that when AMD was doing its projections for supply, that it could have even fathomed that NVIDIA would totally shit the bed on 3080/90 supply for the quarter, effectively abandoning the $500 to $1000 GPU TAM. NVIDIA has left such a gaping hole in the market that there is no way it can be filled currently. From my information and analysis, AMD projected to grow its portion of the TAM and will have inventory to do that. The sad fact is that NV simply abandoned its customer in that market and there is no possible way for AMD to fill the void.

How it was impossible? Did you use a bot?
That's just a link to track who bought what today. Also there's a thing going around that if you subscribed to AMD"s newsletter for new releases and all that, there was a mailer from them with a direct link to purchase. I didn't and so I didn't get to buy, hehe.

When I read this the other day, I accepted that 'launch day' might be a miss - but the whole 'decent supply through q4' part is the really good news. Not sweating too badly for myself; but I've a friend who's built an AMD system and can't turn it on without a GPU... so I was actually trying to secure him a card (and will get myself one later).

I at least have a working computer... he's got a box full of expensive components.

How so? Is this just part of their contract, or part of contract law in general (and which part)?
Those sellers have no contract with AMD. There is nothing there to enforce. You need to look up "price fixing." Its goes both ways with the only real exclusions that I am aware of being commodities in time of emergency.

How did Sony get Amazon to not allow 3rd party sellers? Is sony just that much more powerful than AMD or NVIDIA?

Pretty sure I subscribed a while ago and I have seen no email from AMD. Just checked spam as well.

Weird. Maybe in your settings you didn't click on all their spams? I dont know how their mailer works but I've seen multiple posts where those folks got early links and was able to checkout. I kept getting the stupid CPU sold out page when clicking on the GPU link, lol.

No, but AMD has a contract with Amazon and Newegg as "Authorized Resellers". As such, part of that contract could include a stipulation that the products can only be sold at a certain price (or within a certain amount above or below a certain price). Part of that contract could also include a stipulation that the authorized reseller's platform would restrict third-parties from pricing the products outside of the agreed upon pricing window.

Price fixing is an entirely different matter, and would only come into play if, for example, Amazon forbade third-party sellers from selling below a price-point that Amazon itself was selling below. I am discussing a different concept called "retail price maintenance", which is common in the world of commerce, and generally part of "authorized reseller" agreements.

OK. You do you.

Im in the same boat as your friend. have a box full of expensive components but no GPU to power it on with. Might break down and buy a 5700 in a few weeks if cant secure a 6800 just to have something to use

Just looked it up. Sony trading at $80 a share while Nvidia is $500. Sony market cap is over 120 billion. Nvidia is over 300 billion.
That’s irrelevant since Sony sells much more in terms of volume than Nvidia. Also Nvidia is still a growth stock, so valuations are going to be way higher than normal.

NVidia moves small amounts of high-profit items and has lots of IP that makes the company valuable as they are very profitable in their space. Sony, on the other hand, moves a mass volume of lower profit items but in terms of sheer revenue, Sony dwarfs NVidia several times over. Sony's 78B to NVidia's 12B, put them in completely different arena's but by year-end, the amount of profit each of them makes is about the same. So NVidia has far better margins on their products and investors love that.

Well, the whole comparison is apples to oranges from the word go.

I'll wait for AIB cards to release, but I did check just for fun and they're all sold out.

So this may be a naive point of view/question, but it seems to me that all the hype has been generated because there is finally competition in a space where there was none before. In terms of AMD vs. NVIDIA, or AMD vs. Intel. The hope from an enthusiast point of view was that this would result in a market correction or at least more competitive prices. The reality is that we have 3 releases, 3000, Zen 3, 6000, where enthusiasts are getting scalped and having to pay double the price or more(I know they dont have to pay, I wouldnt pay that but that is not the point.) It seems strange that these TECH companies cannot find any way to diminish in any way the day one reseller problem. I am not desperate for a new toy, I am just concerned about the trend from a hobbyists perspective.

In the end AMD, Nvidia, and the retailers all get their money regardless if it goes to a scalper or an actual end user. They’ll openly say they’re taking extra steps to prevent botting, but in reality they know their extra steps are the equivalent of trying to put out a 5 alarm fire with a bucket of water. They do not care enough to put in anymore effort or invest anymore money to prevent it as, like I said at the beginning, they’re still getting their cut regardless who it goes to.
