Generalizing:
The pain of needing the latest and the greatest. Spending more time chasing out of stock items than being satisfied using their current PC.
I have been putting off an upgrade for awhile, and it seemed like the perfect time as my rig is quite old. And it is a good time, given all of the new stuff coming out, but supply has just been abysmal and it's been a PITA to get everything together for a build.

I feel ya. Im still running an overclocked i5-2500K with a MSI 2070 Super OC. I plan on building a new system very soon that hopefully last me another 8-10 years.

Does anyone know where the EVGA notification line is at for the 3090 FTW Ultra? I know the 3080 is still back in September, but wonder about the 3090.
Thanks!

Well I received my email\notice to purchase on Friday 11/6 (around @ 4 pm) and my listed date for my Notification sign up was 10/03/20. Hang in there!

That’s bullocks. I’ve not gotten any notifications and my queue reservations were all in Sept. I guess yours is for 3090 though and my preference is for 3080.

The 3090 queues are far shorter than the 3080 queues because the people that actually want those are far fewer. Not many in that market and the people that would want to take advantage of the being able to sell one aren't as likely to want to put that much upfront.

I imagine the 6900XT also took the wind out of some prospective 3090 buyer’s sails. More-so than the 6800XT did to the 3080. Rumors of a $999 3080 Ti 20GB probably aren’t helping either.

Hot dog! This is the best news I've heard in a long time. My sign up date is 10/5/2020. I was really hoping that I was able to score a card before EVGA's queue system pulled through...but I'm also really happy that EVGA manned up and did the right thing. Unfortunately I think I signed up on the tail-end of the notification system announcement so I suspect there are a lot of people who signed up in those 2 days. I've even been looking at Ebay and seen the occasional Gigabyte 3090 go for $1800...was very tempted to pull the trigger, but if I am spending this much money, it needs to at least be a card that I'd ideally want (which isn't the Gigabyte).

I know how you feel. I was tempted to snag a 3090 from one of our members here, the ASUS strix one (he had\has a few different 3090's), even at the slight markup. Initially I wanted the same card as my aging (but still kicking @ss) 1080ti FTW3. I might even spring for that nice extended warranty for the extra....what is it..$60.? Even if if it does kinda look like a smiley face..lol.

well maybe not smiley...lol...found the pic I was looking to insert...

BTW t1337duder I believe my notification was entered around 7pm on 10/03 .....so I'm guessing you should get yours very soon!

All microcenters have had constant restocks since launch.

I don't mind waiting outside the store if I was guaranteed to get one...but I don't feel like randomly waiting every day outside hoping that they get one in stock...the store is over 45 minutes away from me

They get trucks all the time but don't know which ones are carrying 30 series cards so that almost an impossible ask. It literally is a luck based decision if you are getting one that day. If I had one 45 minutes away and wanted one enough I would pick a day to swing by to test my luck.

Put mine in on 10/9 so I have a little while longer to get a notification though I put in for a 3090 over a 3080 at that time so we'll see if that goes any faster.

Kansas City Microcenter is showering 2 x RTX 3090 open boxes IN-STOCK. Both around $1,450. They appear to be in-stock. Doors open at 9am.

Good luck.

Be careful with open box items. Not all manufacturers will honor warranties on them as they can be considered second hand. So manufacturers that do not have transferable warranties can deny you on these products.

Call them before going? Maybe they would hold one for you. Or, does the website show real time inventory per store?

I believe MC doesn't ring them up as open box. I brought a couple things over the weekend and nothing on the receipt indicates open box. It even states on MC website that manufacturer warranty still applies. If the manufacturer denies it then MC would be on the hook for it.

MC won't hold one for anyone. People been lining up everyday buying up inventory. Their site is hit or miss when it comes to realtime inventory on hot items. They haven't been updating or just switching items to limited inventory on hot items like gpus and AMD 5xxx.

Bah... That sucks. Thanks man, the closest MC to me is several hours away so I'm relatively unfamiliar with how they operate.

Canada Computers has been stocking random 3070, 3090 cards and occasional 3080s for past 5 days. Trend is continuing as early this morning still possible to walk into some stores for 3070 cards.

No stock at the Micro Center in MN this morning. Manager came out a half hour before they opened to inform the line that they didn’t get any 3070 / 3080 / 3090 or Zen 3 CPUs in with today’s truck.

How big have the lines been?
Was a pretty big line for the Zen 3 launch last Thurs @ around 125+, but this morning, the line was only around ~20 deep tops. And most of those arrived well after 6:30am. So, if you are going to try in person at the MN Micro Center, no need to arrive much earlier than 6am to secure top spot in line. The store manager usually comes out ~30 min before they open (8:30am) to let folks know what they received in that morning. They HAVE been getting 3000 series Nvidia cards in on a regular basis every few days, but it's still a crap shoot. (Note: They get no deliveries on Tuesdays.)

All in all, definitely much better odds than online though. I scored my Strix 3090 last Thurs that way. Good luck!

I believe the stuff coming out now will be cheaper and possibly replaced with better stuff by Summer.
AMD X670, NVMe 4.0 speeds that goes beyond 7000 MB/s, RTX Ti/Super cards and better monitors.

Are there good parts out right now? Yes.
But a better overall system can be had in just a few months. It's easy to wait because nothing is in stock.
Once people can go outside and attend events without worry again, prices and demand will fall sharply.

I mean...maybe. All of that is complete speculation, and given the supply issues we are seeing with current stuff, there's no reason to believe any of those parts (if they even exist) will be plentiful.

It's also the perpetual "if I just wait a few more months something new will come out" cycle.

I mean, yeah, if you can wait then spare yourself the work trying to jump on stuff in-stock and wait. But I waited long enough and was willing to put in some effort, and ended up getting lucky.

It's easy to wait now. If everything was in stock then I would be wrong.
But in just 3 months, everything offered right now will not be as shiny.

There are multiple articles and videos saying don't build a system now. I've held this idea since June.
I've only bought more RAM because it's cheap enough to jump on it now.

It's possible the new parts will be announced by summer, but availability is a different story. I waited for years to upgrade my GPU during the GeForce 10XX years, and that didn't work out. Prices kept going up and no new parts came out. I eventually bought Turing, but wasn't all that happy about it, given 2080 performance at release was about on par with the 1080 Ti.

There are some nice parts out now. If you can't find them for MSRP then, yeah, I'd probably wait too.

I know the guys that returned these video cards and for what reasons. One card wasn't used. He opened the box and the video card ended up being to long for his case. The end of the card was hitting the back of the hard drive rack area so he returned it. The other guy wanted his $1800 dollars back.

None of them were registered. However, if it were, this would soon be discovered at which point you should return the item to the store and instruct the store as to the circumstances of your return and advise them NOT to put he video card back on the store shelves. It's then up to the retailer at this point as to what they do next. This is a very grey area as most consumers do not even register products.

I think your advice is good.

Good luck.

MSI had a major fire at one of their factories this morning. Not good.
More details here:
https://www.anandtech.com/show/16224/msi-confirms-fire-at-pcb-factory-in-baoan-china
MSI reports that no injuries were caused, and no damage was done to any production lines. This facility/factory is responsible for manufacturing PCBs for a wide range of components, including (but not limited to) motherboards, graphics cards, laptops, servers, small-form-factor devices, and industrial installations... MSI claims that no production lines were damaged in the incident, and there should not be any issues with future production. We suspect that there shouldn't be any issues with storage/stock/distribution of models either, however usually with an incident like this, investigations happen and extra training is enacted, which may have knock on effects to production.

Good to know. I'm still waiting for a time when I can just stop by during the day and pick one up. I'm guessing it'll be another month or so if there are still lines there before opening.

At that point (autumn 2021 ?) you will be closer to the expected 2022 launch of AM5/DDR5/USB4/PCI-Express 5 and that seem much more something to wait for if you are the type to put a lot of money in motherboards, it is not clear for most people what speed of 7000 MB can do, let alone higher than those, I am not sure for who it is the kind of hardware to wait for it.

My notification came first thing this morning! So I have a 3090 FTW3 Ultra on the way. Even though I used an associate code, I admit that the FTW3 Ultra is pretty dang expensive. I could have potentially snagged one of the lesser cards from the scalpers (Zotac or Gigabyte) on Ebay for less money. Having said that, this is one of the cards I was aiming for I'm glad I got it for MSRP, even though the MSRP + tax on this item is pretty dang steep...

At least my hunt is over. I can rest easy and now hope to fully enjoy my LG OLED CX 77".

I finally got the EVGA notification to purchase a 3080 FTW card but I already have a 3090 FE. I guess I'll just let it expire.
