Embargo date on Zen 3 reviews

No reviews until release is retarded.
Totally agree, if you believe in what you presented on announcement day then at a minimum 24hours but would like to see more time than that between reviews and launch.

Holy shit 5950X is boosting over 5GHz. I think some other of the models are as well.

what?

In every single game, there is maybe 2fps difference at 4K, between Zen 3 and whatever Intel happens to creep to the top in each game. and its not even 2fps in each game tested.

In 1080p, if you really need to pin it for high refresh gaming. Intel still has an edge case. But its smaller than ever.

Techpowerup did not show 5ghz for 5600x, 5800x, or 5900x

From Techspot:

AMD also advertises a max boost clock frequency of 4.9 GHz and this should be achieved in single core or lightly threaded workloads. In the Cinebench single core test the 5950X typically operated at 5 GHz or 5050 MHz to be exact. That’s 150 MHz over the advertised spec.

From Techspot:
uh huh. I was simply saying that techpowerup did not show 5ghz on the other models. The post I quoted said that other models mite be. But it seems they are not.

Its possible that some golden chips might. As AMD is not artificially limiting anything.

Kind of glad I wasn't able to get a 5800 or 5900 after looking at reviews. The 5600 did pretty well.

Yeah, for gaming I'm not as impressed as I thought I would be. I'm sitting on a 3600X right now, and don't see a reason to upgrade. I was considering the 9700K from Micro Center for $199 for a new build for a friend, but was waiting on reviews of the 5600X. After reading the reviews, the 5600X is $100 more, and 0.5% to 2% faster depending on resolution. Not worth it, in my book. Or, grab a 10600K from Micro Center for $269 ($30 less), and it's a few percentage points faster at gaming. Now, if the 5600 non-X had launched at the $219 anticipated price today, we'd be having a different discussion.

Ahh, gotchya...

Interesting that Techspot OC'd all cores to 4.7GHz and it actually hurt performance in certain situations. Pop it in and forget it, use better memory if desired instead.

Hmmmm tbh I was expecting more gaming performance. The 5600X performs identical to my 8700K at stock, runs 100mhz less but also uses slightly less power. Guess I'll be waiting longer for Zen 4 or the new intel chips specifically for gaming of course.

In hindsight my 8700K purchase 3 years ago at $380 was money well spent. I'll probably not end up upgrading my Ryzen 3600 for my HTPC lol

BUT if you're a new buyer there's no reason to go intel right now.

Yeah I'm in a similar boat, my 8700k at 5.1 will tide me over for a while still. I game at 1440p @ 165hz (that is when my 1080 ti can keep up) too. Now for my Plex server with a 1700x, the 3600x is looking awful tempting! The single core performance jump from first gen Ryzen will be huge. Too bad my x370 board will have to retired, no I didn't have any hopes of it supporting the new cpus lol.

Based on reviews...the 5900X has a higher sustained all core boost compared to the 5950X by 200-300 MHz. But the 5950X seems to manage a higher sustained single core boost by about 25-50Mhz. But the differences may be come down to binning as well.

I see some benefits at 1080P > 120 FPS, but 1440P looks like 99% GPU limited. For most people there is still no reason to upgrade. I might get a 3600 or 3700X if they are cheap enough, otherwise I’ll just stick with my 2600X.

Until they get off 14nm it's going to be a hard sell for intel chips. Rocket lake is limited to 8 CPUs so it's going to have a hard time just catching the 10900k.
