Escape From Tarkov

I'm just taking a break until they can properly scale their servers and netcode to accommodate the massive influx of Twitch users.

As one who's been having a plethora of issues with this, I can say the previous patch has definitely improved on these matters.

This game really pushes some of Unity engine's features hard, taking some of the visuals to the next level. Will pick it up if it ever gets some decent PvE content.

Always glad to see a developer pushing real time rendering tech to it's limits, something that most devs can't do due to console limitations.

Yeah the queue times may have slightly improved, but those shortened raids really killed it for me. Especially scav runs

Yeah I noticed that. I joined a game tonight as a scav, and the timer clicked down to 10 minutes almost immediately after joining it. Not sure if they've added a "join a game in progress" type of thing to alleviate wait times. But that wasn't fun.

according to the devs it will never have PvE content. they claim there will be a second game that will be the single player part of it....but I suspect that will never see the light of day.

a year+ ago we had a BIG forum discussion on their forum about allowing a second player/stash so you could PvE vs Scavs. Something completely separate from the PvP player where you could fight move scav and complete some of the missions just to have a casual way to play and learn....they didn't like that and all the die hard/try hards cried a storm over the idea even though we had a lot of player asking.

I would probably still play the game if they had done this.

anyone notice gains in this game with a gpu upgrade? what card and how many fps did you gain? I heard its mostly cpu bound.

picked up the game last night. learning customs in offline mode. if they could have just put a compass in it would speed things up. if I bought a ingame map from a dealer, would it show where I am?

for me the best upgrade to make it not suck was more ram. even 16 wasn't enough.

Did you do an actual comparison test or just casual?

I monitor my RAM usage during play and it never goes over 10GB in EFT.

all i know is when I had 16 it was a mess. I added 16 more it smoothed out. Now, this was a year ago.

anyone still play? seems like they fixed the stutters with the recent update/wipe. I've only played solo, if anyone wants to group up my ingame name is: The_Series

Bought the game for like $40 a few months back, played it once. Never got back on, too fucking confusing and the inventory was stupid. Didn’t feel like learning another game.

I know the feeling. I almost listed my account for sale early on. friend of a friend sorta gave me a walk through on their stream with discord and I put some more effort into learning then got into it.

I’m just not down to learn the game with the limited time I have. Doesn’t seem to be worth it at all.

I’ll stick to my Warzone/PUBG/Overwatch/CS:GO

LOL

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the game. It has a very steep learning curve because there are no tutorial aspects whatsoever and they pretty much throw you to the wolves. Basic game features like a compass and usable map are missing but they clearly spend a TON of time on realism especially with respect to guns and combat.
I really like the game but I absolutely hate it when I get fragged by someone that is 10 times by level and/or get one shot from enemies that I didn't see.
A PVE mode would be amazing but honestly if they put it in the game they would find a way to nerf it to be useless to actually have fun.
The creators clearly have a vision on what they want the game to be and everyone else can be damned.

yes PvE would be awesome but they won't do it. many have asked. All they need to do is have separate stashes and let you have some fun learning and blasting scavs and AI operatives or something. I would reinstall Tarkov for that. they had (do they still have it?) a PvE mode but you couldn't keep anything so you never really got to learn how things work. Hell make some missions that are just PvE related so you can do that as well. it would be easy and something to fill time, hell, they might even get more people to buy the game just for that to eventually get them to move into PvP.

their vision is so far fetched it will never happen. They claim the game will not be a looter/shooter but all they have done for the past 5 years or whatever is make a looter/shooter. Their vision will never happen or it won't until 2030

They do have an "offline" mode that you can use with your PMC. It is pretty useful to learn maps and to train against NPC scavs but you gain no loot or experience. Since your inventory and health reset after the run there is no draw back to dying or using ammo/supplies.
If they wanted more sales they would listen to their "customers" more and include the features and game modes that people want. Right now the game seems very heavily tipped to hardcore gamers and Twitch streamers - maybe they are worried that a PVE mode will lower the public server count and kill the competitive aspects of the game?
Since it is a hardcore game you can't just join a squad with some randos since they are just as likely to shoot you in the back on spawn to grab your stuff and if you play as scav with multiple people the game can spawn you in completely separated parts of the map and the extraction points for each squad member can be different.

Years ago we had a huge thread on their forums going about a pve mode. Lots of support and they said no.

The game will never survive on niche bs. Im amazed it made it this far.

I like realism but this is silliness most of time. Love watching streamers run and gun like its cod.

Two words; Twitch Drops

It's no surprise they're doing another week-long drop event on Twitch, given the complete lack of content that came with the recent patch causing a huge drop-off in viewership.

I was formally a huge advocate of this game, but their server issues are just absolutely atrocious. The hacking 'problem' is debatable, but one thing the majority of the people who don't blow Nikita for their income can agree upon; their servers are hot garbage.

twitch viewership has gone up since the wipe. pre wipe it was 23k avg viewers, after wipe its 41k. and I havn't had any sutters or server issues so far. I've watched streams where they had rubber banding though. since I started playing the game in feb this is the most stable I've seen it.

my stash is amost full of crap I need to sell on the flee market. probably a few million worth. I'm almost lvl 9.

So, anyone still touching this hot garbage?

2 days ago I learned about EMUTarkov, https://www.reddit.com/r/EmuTarkov/

pretty much some people either got source or figured out how to make a local server. Added some modding to it so you can play single player with a stash and complete quests all with AI scav and PMCs running around. It is everything I every wanted out of this "game"
Even the flea market works.

So much more casual and fun to play vs getting tryharded by players.

there are mods you can download as well to change things. If you liked the idea of the game but hated the PvP part of it, this is for you.

That actually kinda sounds like I might be interested in it now.

if you have a hard time against players you might have a harder time against scavs. they buffed scavs in the past few months. I've gotten headshot by them more and more lately. AI with aimbots. I ran past a scav that was behind something and got 1 shot yesterday. and before that I was on the roof of dorms and got one shot by a scav that was inside 2 story. that was with buckshot lol. scavs are more lethal than most real players.

with the EMU thing it doesn't seem like that but I've been using the AI difficulty as "as online" and they seem to be pretty bad at hitting you. I'm talking face hugging them and they miss UNLESS they are have shotguns. I should try the other difficulties.

Also, the installation video, ignore it.

Create a folder somewhere called EMUTarkov (or whatever you want)
Make two folders in that, one called server and one call client
Download server from here: https://dev.offline-tarkov.com/sp-tarkov/server/releases unpack into server folder
Go to your tarkov install folder. Copy the following into the client folder: Cache (if there), EscapeFromTarkov_data, Logs, EscapeFromTarkov.exe, unityPlayer.dll, MonoBleedingEdge, NLog
Download SP-Tarkov-modules.zip from https://dev.offline-tarkov.com/sp-tarkov/Modules/releases
unpack into client folder, overwrite anything it asks.

Run the server and let it do its thing. it took a while before it was read.
Run Launcher.exe from Client
Hit register, pick the edge of darkness version.
Hit login and then launch.

the register thing didn't really work for me, so my login is just blank email and password. its kind of confusing.

I don't have much to add to this thread, but I just wanted to say that even after a crappy day playing the game, it's still damn fun. It's rewarding as hell when you have a good run.

Don't get me wrong, I had a fantastic time with it several months ago, for a couple of months. But the consistent desync issues they haven't seemed to address really killed it for me.

The elephant in the room is wipes. Currently, their endgame depends on them. And judging by how long it's taking them to add actuall content, I just don't see them progressing away from that. No matter how many times they claim "wipes are temporary".

I'm not even going to address the cheating, because that's still going on as well.

I've been playing it a few years now and i go through phases of addiction with it. I'll play it exclusively for awhile, then step away when they are having an issue spike like cheating or servers. All-in-all they only game I have ever spent more time with is Destiny 1. I think it's a heck of a game with nothing else like it on the market. I'm glad the people who don't care for the difficulty have found their own way to play it. Admittedly, I like the unforgiving, Dark Souls like risk/reward it presents. Makes it [H]. Just my two cents.

LOL - So... I just discovered this game and started a thread asking questions about CPU/RAM loads vs GPU optimization. Someone pointed me to this existing thread, which I've enjoyed reading through... only to see the last post is from Dec of last year.

Clearly not a lot of people currently playing.

Anyway - in case some [H] dude comes back and finds this: I'm trying to figure out why I'm not seeing outstanding performance using a 3070 on a 1080p monitor. I'm thinking its my old 2700x and 16gb of RAM. But who knows.

Anyone got a read on how they've optimized the game (given it was originally destined for a RU audience)?

probably not the ram but the cpu. if you turn your graphics up you might actually get better performance.

I've read that. I'll have to revisit - but I think I'm running it on pretty high settings.
You could try to lower CPU intensive settings and up GPU ones to balance out the FPS, but if its spiking that might not be an option.

Aireoth - any idea what settings might be more cpu intensive?
Pretty sure it varies by title, but in my experience anything that increases the amount of things on the screen (like draw distance) is fairly CPU intensive.

Just a little googling and this list seems fairly close:

CPU Intensive Tasks:
Physics
Sound
Animation & Animation Interpolation
Particles
Decals
Polygons
Dynamic Lighting/Shadows
Water reflection

GPU intensive Tasks:
Textures & Bumpmaps
AA & AF
HDR & Bloom
Resolution

I'm getting good performance on a 2070 Super with 2560x1440, so you should be good to go. I can't help you though.

I play it. I just don't post about it. To be honest though, I'm kind of on a hiatus from it. I'm just playing other stuff right now.

strange, i play at 1080p on a 1080ti and it runs perfectly with maxed out everything. also on 2700x but 32gb of ram. this game is a RAM HOG....16gb may be the limiting factor.
