Got my 3090 from Best Buy yesterday. Holy cow this thing is heavy. My god. More than twice as fast as my Vega 64, which funny enough, decided to die with "RTX Space Invaders" 5 days ago when playing Fortnite. I am not kidding (I saw issues starting six days ago but thought I fixed the problem by disassembling the card, cleaning it and reapplying LM to the epoxied core, but I guess it was already on its way out. Overvolting of P0 and P1 power states by 75mv maybe? Or the LM slowly seeping into something? I have no idea).
RAM overclock is limited to +600 in MSI AB stable, though. +700 crashed the card in Heaven Benchmark. Haven't tried more than +100 on the core. When I shunt mod I'll see what it can do, which I won't be doing for a nice long while (but I will have the conductive paint (for adhesion), liquid electrical tape (for securing) and the shunts for sometime in the future.
Check this out...it helps performance so much:

Well, someone just bought my overpriced 1080 ti on eBay that's been sitting for months..

I upped the price quite a bit at the 3080 launch once it proved to be impossible to get one and I was noticing interest in my card.. figured whatever if they're willing to pay that much I'll just wait for a 3080 haha.

Kind of funny we haven’t had an “in stock” post in here in days.
Yah. Even online stock checker, last in stock was during the "launch" week. Best Buy did an unannounced drop on the 15th, unsure how many they distributed. I make it a routine to check stock in the morning while I get ready...and I have myself for being part of the problem...

If you're using NowInStock you won't see jack. They are minutes behind, and that's all the time it takes to sell out. Try out a Discord channel with Distill notifications. You won't get one unless you order as soon as the notification goes up.

Yeah those in stock checkers are useless. Most of the alerts now are false alarms. None of them caught the actual Best Buy drop and that lasted for a few minutes.

Does anyone know if there will be a consumer version? Like a 2-300$ version? I have a 1660 Super and I am not looking at paying twice what it cost as a replacement.

I would think so but not until quarter one or quarter two of next year. Probably depends on how the 3060 shapes up.

They aren't completely useless. Distill via Discord is how I got my card. But you're right, there are occasional false positives. That was mostly a problem with Nvidia's site, which is a problem they solved by stopping selling their own cards.

Was able to snag a 2nd EVGA XC3 Ultra 3090 at Microcenter. I currently have one in my PC. This is on top of 2 x 3080's from last week. I was tipped off that our store was getting EVGA FTW Ultra 3090's but decided NOT to spend the extra $200 on getting one as my system will go up for sale any day now.

I swear to god this is not a brag post.

Can you guys that have a Microcenter near you not go and wait in the morning or at night with any type of consistency?

Consistency is the key to scoring a new 3xxx series card.

They are getting in cards every week, all of the Microcenter locations. From what I've been able to ascertain. Usually twice a week at my local store.

If you have a Microcenter near you, formulate a game plan for your store.

Here is my method. Note: This method requires dedication and consistency.

Sat - Sun .... NO

Mon - NO

Tue - NO ( Initially, YES ) After lots of questions and a few practice runs, this is not a good morning / day to wait but still a gamble as cards could still be drop shipped at any time. For cards to go on sale Tues morning. They have to come in Monday night. I am fairly certain that no cards are coming in Sat, Sun or Monday, at least, locally. And even then, I am not 100% sure about this. This has been mostly just trial and error and foot work, and, questioning.

Wed - YES, I go and wait at 7:45am sharp and again 30 mins before close

Thur - YES, I go and wait at 7:45am sharp and again 30 mins before close

Fri - YES, I go and wait at 7:45am sharp and again 30 mins before close

Note: The reason you want to go in at night is to hopefully find out if cards came in that day / afternoon etc. They have been very tight lipped about this information. Again, scalpers. But, I spend a lot of money and the guys that get my commission have given me a wink and nod here and there. YMMV.

Note: if you're on the East / West coast, you might have to increase the hours you wait in-line at your local store.

If you're still trying to get a card and have a Microcenter local to you. I would go in, go back to the BYOC area, smile and just hang out, listen, ask a few questions and ease into a conversation about the new nVidia cards. It's very important that you DO NOT RUSH any of this. You want them to drop their guard as usually if you go straight in, hit them with that question as soon as you step into that area, you get a guarded response. This is from experience and common sense. Also, make sure your body lingo is relaxed as well. I found out that because of scalpers, all of the staff have been told NOT to discuss any cards that come in. However, they usually will discuss the cards that did come in and get sold after the fact. This is the information you want. Over the past month I've been able to establish a pattern that has been working for me. There could be some minor variance based on your region ( shipping zones ) but this is pure speculation as I do not shop at other Microcenters. In short, what works for me may not work for you at your location.

You want to find out when cards have been coming in and their method for distribution as I think this varies from store to store. Do they sell them as soon as they come in and get checked into the stores inventory, or do they get them in, checked in and sell them the following morning. You want to discover this pattern and then use that knowledge to formulate a game plan. I know some of you might be rolling your eyes at me and that's fine but this method does work for me. So far to date, I've been able to buy a total of 4 cards from my local Microcenter. Another trick you can use is, use cash and give them a nick name and old address to create a 2nd account. I actually have 3 accounts at my local Microcenter. My business account, my own personal account and my ex GF's account which is under her business. This last tip is if you flip. Some of you do, most of you don't.

$1800 is a LOT OF MONEY for a video card. If I can flip and cover the cost of the $1800 which I've been able to do .... almost. Trust me, if I can, I'm going to do it.

Again, this post is to share my method. I hope it helps one of you get a card. If you're upset with me, please, keep the hate out of the thread. You can PM me and cuss me out. I'm perfectly fine with that.

Good luck.

So you are buying multiple cards, and flipping them for profit? Weird flex, but it is what it is. I've been thinking of driving 5 hours to Microcenter to try to get a card, but if your going every day to buy up stock, I'll continue to let inventory build up. Just curious, what's your need for 4 3000 series GPUs?

It is not as simple as you make it out to be. You know like people have too work and can't take several days off a week to just go check. I would of done it if I had any vacation time left for the year.

Eventually yes. As always they just start at the top and work their way downward. RTX 3070 is scheduled for Oct 29, at $500; but even if that wasn't outside your implied budget is probably going to be another instant sold out garbage fire. Rumors for the 3060 suggest $300-400 and between November and January (as always, rumors are only worth what you pay for them). The $200-300 card will probably be a month or two farther down the line; for reference the 1660 launched half a year after the 2080.

I had to tote my laptop to work and keep it loaded to my trackers on the side of my desk. No MC near me, unfortunately.

Distill seems to be the only one where you can customize refresh time or run it from your own machine. That's what makes it useful. The rest don't, and are always late to the party.

Totally this. Alot of us who want a 3080 have the money, but not the time (and a close by MC). Feel like if first month release had around 50k of 3080s (and maybe 5-10k of 3090s) most of us who have cards in our systems. Cards definitely would still be sold out, but at least have a few minutes to add to cart after in stock notification which is enough time for most of us. I wonder what past releases had for shipped numbers for first month (10k, 25k, 100k)?

Honestly, I spent a couple days trying to set up Distill properly. After being blacklisted from the store pages for setting it to refresh too often, getting a bunch of false positives because I couldn't seem to monitor the right thing, and fighting with the extension over which of my computers was running the scan and which it would alert to, I gave up and joined a few Discords that were using bots informed by Distill.

I was probably giving up a few seconds, but I did get a card eventually. Of the several dozen Distill notifications I saw during my search (all through Discord,) only one ever registered on NowInStock.

To confirm, you got Distill setup and you were able to buy the card online, without bot and all that? Just manual process once you received the notification?

I never said it was simple. I just didn't want to go into all the damn time I've put in. I've gone down there 4 and 5 times a week the past 3 weeks, the 17th of last month, 7 hours and on the 24th, around 18+ hours. I've spent over 75 hours down there the past 33 days. Just gotta keep at it. Hopefully you guys can start snooping around, going in at night or during the day and start casually hanging out and getting intel. There is a pattern ( I think ) to the days I've been going in. I think Wed, Thur and Friday are the mornings you guys want to try and go chill and see what's up.

If I had to spend even close to 4-5 hrs in I would just buy the 3090s from a scalper.

I stopped putting in a lot of effort. I just joined the discord channel that's been posted here repeatedly and check stuff out when it notified me. Snagged a 3080 FE at best buy. I probably put in a some total of about two hour's worth of effort over 2 weeks launching links on my phone and setting up persistent log in and billing info on multiple sites. It's only a lot of work if you obsess over it and get pissed about not getting in on every drop. They'll be here eventually.

Also thanks to the various people who posted the discord link.

That’s what I did and I’ve secured three 3080s and two 3090s. Got most of my entire friend group equipped. Discord and Distill notifications, plus luck, are the way to go. I’ve put in maybe 2-3 hours over the past month actually looking for stock manually.

I did the same thing and I've never been able to check out at any of the sites they set me too.

Same here, while I obviously don't see anywhere near the full amount, I use what my employer bills customers for an hour of my time as a reasonable proxy for valuing my time vs pointless BS; which works out to no more than a few hours.

All I hear you saying is that your "free" 3090 after scalping all the other cards you bought was worth $24/hr over the 75 hours you spent at MC in the past month ($1800/75). I can't think of anyone else in this forum who can afford to take almost two full work weeks to sit at MC over the past month or would even waste the time.

Correct. I subscribed to three Discord servers that were using Distill notifiers, and whenever I was able to react to them immediately, I did so. It took several dozen attempts, and I didn't babysit my laptop every minute of every day, but eventually I did get one. Notification arrived, I followed the link, card was on Newegg where I was already signed in and had my payment and shipping information stored, and successfully purchased an EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra. No botting. I couldn't even set Distill up properly myself, no way I was going to try to give a script the ability to spend $1700 for me. XD

It's possible. Not easy, not guaranteed, but possible.

Please, if you're rich and you're scalping cards to get richer, we don't need to hear about it. Great, you have money, awesome. Now leave the cards for people who need them to buy instead of trying to make money of it to get richer.

That being said, thanks to whoever shared the discord link some weeks ago. I was able to get a 3090 FE from Best Buy during the first best buy mega drop almost two weeks ago, that was announced by Tu Madre (the bots weren't functioning on the Nvidia or BB Websites anymore). Great timing too, because my Vega 64 decided to die right after I got the 3090 ordered, while playing Fortnite. RIP. Amazing how a card decides to die because it's scared of a 3090 but that timing...maybe the LM Repaste I did a week before that (molded die + super 33+ protection+foam dams) was finally too much for it.

Honestly the Discord has not been helpful for me at all. Even monitoring it constantly and reacting within seconds, cards are already gone before the page can even load. Either retailers have like 3 cards to sell each "drop", or the notifications are way too late. Either way, luck or increasing supply is the only way you're going to get a card at this point.

Yea, I've been reacting to the Discord alerts within 5sec (I'm sitting at my PC most of the day) and still no luck :(
