The [H] RTX 3080 owners thread.

Me too. Evidently, I didn't hit "notify" until 9/18, so here's hoping there's not a 6 week delay getting to me in the queue otherwise it might be Big Navi for me...
How do find out when you hit auto notify?

According to that link I never hit notify. I am losing hope of ever getting one.

Why would you think you'll get a notification soon, much less this year? There's probably a lot of people in front of you for very few GPUs.

Funny that this owners thread has devolved into non-owners with money in hand debating the possibility of maybe getting a chance to buy a launched product in the next 3 months.

Actual 3series owners are like the yeti or the chupacabra, they only exist in legend.

anyone else having problems with control crashing to desktop? its pretty frustrating because of its checkpoint system, not sure if its just the game or the 3080 because there seem to be a lot of complaints about control crashing

Remove all oc's and see if the problem continues. These cards are easily unstable in different games when they act ok in others.

not even overclocked, it crashed with a -100mhz core applied in afterburner as well

Figured this is probably a given but I gotta ask, are you on the latest Nvidia drivers?

I haven't had any crashes yet, but don't have Control to test. Might grab it during the next sale.

Also to update my previous coil whine thing I only notice it during Siege which runs at crazy high frame rates during the loading portion. Tried a bunch of other games like Borderlands 3, Destiny 2 and Warzone and didn't notice any whine.

yep i have 456.71

tried a bit of doom eternal and its even worse, ive been playing a lot of genshin impact and that doesnt crash but then the utilization is only around 60%

might run ddu in the morning

What power supply do you have? Several reporting having 750W power supplies but still not being enough. Not all power supplies are created equal and it really shows on these cards.

The psu i have is an Asus Rog strix 850w

i ran DDU and it seems a bit better i played control for over an hour without a crash

anyone know the capacitor layout on the Gigabyte 3080 Aorus?...mix of MLCC and SP-Caps?...I know the 3080 cards don't have a lot of headroom as far as overclocking etc but which cards are the very best in terms of performance/capacitors etc?

Thankfully no issues here with my setup. Cpu is undervolted 0.125v and gpu is also undervolted and hitting 1900mhz almost constant unless the game doesnt need it.

Thanks I removed my notify for XC3 that was from the 16th so hopefully someone else gets lucky.

It sounds like Gigabyte uses all SP-caps, unless they've changed something.

"The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 30 graphics cards are designed in accordance with NVIDIA specifications, and have passed all required testing, thus the product quality is guaranteed. GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3080 GAMING OC and EAGLE OC series graphics cards use high-quality, low-ESR 470uF SP-CAP capacitors, which meet the specifications set by NVIDIA and provide a total capacity of 2820u in terms of GPU core power, higher than the industry's average. The cost of SP-CAP capacitors is not lower than that of MLCCs. GIGABYTE values product integrity highly and definitely does not reduce costs by using cheap materials."

they only mention the Gaming OC and Eagle models...the Auora is their higher end model so I was thinking it might use a mixture of capacitors or maybe even all MLCC

Here is the backplate of the Eagle, so far I love it and no crashes. Benchmark is with cinebench (all I have right now) compared to my comptuer with a 2080ti.

I think these cards really benefit from undervolting. Mine seems to like 850mV at 1900MHz which stops it from limiting boost due to power limit and keeps boost locked at 1905MHz. Default was bouncing between high 1800's and low 1900's. It also scored me about 500 more points in Time Spy (I only have the free version) so it's not even hurting performance. I could probably start raising MHz until I find the limit again or decrease power some more, but now seems like a happy medium.

What application are you using to undervolt? I thought the voltage sliders in things like Afterburner and such don't do anything. Thanks.

I used afterburner and it seemed to work fine. I set a -290 MHz CPU clock, then used Control-F to bring up the voltage curve and raised the target voltage to ~1900. Hit apply and it should flatten the rest of the curve. I started at 950mV then went lower while benchmarking.

This is the article I followed (Probably the most useful thing I have seen on WCCFTech) - https://wccftech.com/undervolting-ampere-geforce-rtx-3080-hidden-efficiency-potential/

^ to add you might have to enable voltage adjustment / monitoring it the afterburner settings prior to doing this i think?

I don't remember enabling that but I will double check. I noticed Afterburner doesn't adjust the fan curve properly unfortunately. If I enable a fan curve it sets 60% as the minimum when it should be 40% and the manual sliders don't really work well either. Precision X1 sets the fans fine but I'm not sure how to use their VF Curve Tuner, any values I set just disappear after I hit apply & save.

Edit: Afterburner 4.6.3 Beta 2 sets the fans properly, I'll test out the VF Curve and see if it works the same as the 4.6.2 I used previously.

I just got the link for an EVGA FTW Ultra for purchase. I currently have a EVGA XC3 Ultra Gaming. Should I buy the FTW? Decisions, decisions. I have a few hours left to think about it.

I guess I could sell someone my XC3 here at the [H]. Dunno what to do.

Edit: Ordered the FTW Ultra. Going to put my XC3 up for sale.

I think you made the right choice.

Here are some screenshots of my testing with a less aggressive fan curve. Not a huge difference on temps, but with the undervolt fans only hit 70% as opposed to 80% with the stock curve and the boost is pretty stable. The main difference is the PerfCap Reason graph in GPU-Z. At stock it's constantly at the power limit which is when it shows green, whereas with my settings it only hit green a few times. I did have it fully grey during my first attempts but I lost those settings moving between Afterburner and X1 when I reinstalled.

Stock with +500 memory and fan curve:

It's a big sucker, runs very quiet, even at 80% fan speed. Performance is great boosts to 2100mhz out of the box and generally settles at 2040-2070. On the odd occasion it does drop into the high 1900's.

I'm two minutes away on Evga's queue progress for the FTW3 Ultra. So close I can taste it.

Hopefully tomorrow for me, but otherwise definitely next week.

These are my notifies.. I'm in the US and a bit confused on how others are anticipating when they become available. I guess I'll accept the first one in hopes of being able to step up to the 20GB AIO version I'd prefer later.

There is a Google sheet floating around reddit where users are posting their notify times and updating when Evga sends a purchase link. It's a decent metric for seeing what time in the queue Evga is at. Currently my best shot is for the FTW ultra. They are at 7:42am and Im at 7:44am, which means I should be in tomorrow's drop.
