confirmed: AMD's big Navi launch to disrupt 4K gaming

I have followed both since they started,as with most of the other rumor mongers and other yellow journalists, but things can change, just as the economy has and peoples financial needs within it.

Still MLID has shitted on AMD plenty of time. Doesn’t change that fact. No he is not on AMDs payroll. He sticks to what he feels and calls out both if they got issues.

I believe they sent Jim a Radeon VII he said he liked it except for the blank screens and drivers.

This is what Jim has openly admitted to?,but there is a video up on AdoredTV where he rants that HE 'helped' them sell THOUSANDS of cards, while they(RTG) were giving him the cold shoulder and that they "Need to DO something for he,JIM.." The implications being obvious. Jim is at the very least an influencer, but given how most msm have been little more then militarized levels of propaganda the last few decades, and youtube is awash in blatant advertising/influencers,I can see how many cannot see the lines being more then just blurred, and some would even defend this type of behavior. Even Edward Bernays would blush at what these folks do.I recommend folks watch "The Minds of Men",research: The Smith-Mundt Act, and other documentaries on this topic,to see just how far its gone and how incredibly sophisticated it now is.This one here is good but quite mild as to how sophisticated the marketing now is:
PBS did a 1 hour one a few years back I cannot link here, on how big corps like nVIDIA/AMD/Ford,household names, etc approach channels on youtube that are already aligned to a degree already, and have their marketing dept or a K Street type 'guide' the youtuber, its a must watch, real eye opener. But hey believe and think what you want. Here is hoping AMD brings the fire on the 28th.

And I think there is only going to be more of that judging by Team Green's actions this last product cycle. And Jim IMO does not fit into that category at all. He is still far from being controlled by a brand into showing only what that brand wants shown.

Maybe I'm crazy but I distinctly remember it being leaked about nvidia paying posters to post on forums.

Wouldn't be surprised to learn that any notable brand does this. From a marketing perspective, it's smart money.
This is nothing new at all. True story: Literally the first time I walked into 3dfx offices, I was introduced to two people working there and their only job was to post on forums. Sometimes as 3dfx employees, and other times as normal anonymous accounts. It was an open "secret" back in those days. Now it is done through contractors and much more on the QT.

Wow, I need to get in on this job and get out of healthcare

tl;dw AMD may not have used their top card for the 5000-series announcement, instead, selected a lower-tier card meant to compete more or less directly against the 3080. RedGamingTech says it's a 64-72-core part.

I remember someone replying to me on reddit and posting a link to TPU thread. Where it talks about Nvidia using some company that has paid actors in web forums.

Those were fun times. You could respond to anybody who disagreed with you on a forum with "shut up paid shill!"

Usenet was fun in those days.

Shit like this pisses me off.

Companies should focus on creating good products and placing them in the marketplace, NOT trying to control or manipulate the narrative.

That's one of the reasons I miss the [H] reviews.

I always pictured you opening the review sample, grabbing the reviewers notes/guide (or whatever they called their propaganda pamphlet that came with it, can't remember) and just tossing it over your shoulder and doing real tests in real things that people use. :p

Lets just say that I don't trust any of these current clowns on YouTube to have that kind of integrity. No, not even Linus.

Thats why I like a few select places to read reviews. Gamersnexus.net, Techspot.com, thefpsreview.com. Those are great review sites that I know aren't paid off. If anything they piss off a lot of the companies and sometimes are blacklisted lol.

Gamernexus made a great video. Taking dollar bribe to say good things hahaha. It was really funny.

I know for a fact that this has been done in the past. 100% - paid forum shills exist.
I found a shill:

Sucker gets paid in AMD bikes.

I actually ordered the AMD mountain bike but people on Reddit said it was a piece of crap.

Didn't help that they delayed shipment until December so I just cancelled and ordered a real bike.

Who makes the bike

If it was specialized, orbea, trek, giant, etc.... it was a real bike

I think alot of them start with good intentions, but as the loot starts to flow in, a new "normal" sets in. Is it even possible to not shill in some form when you receive so many freebies. Those "critical" reviews start to always have positives peppered in, and you can always find a "buyer that would benefit from getting this."

In my defense here, I have been looking to buy a bike since my wife has recently gotten into it. I wanted to bike with her. I just happened to see that bike pop up on AMD's site and thought, what the hell? It was put out there as more of a joke than anything else. My personal opinion is that AMD should stick to t-shirts and stickers when it comes to branding swag. That said, I got an "extra" if want to come by and pick it up for $200! :p

And for the record, I did pay for mine.

OK, now let's get back on topic please.

News is a couple of days old but, RDNA2 supports AV1 Decode. Hopefully they improved their H.264 encoder, as well.

Yeah, I haven't heard to much but I was really hoping to hear some improvements on encoding, they are so far behind Intel and NVIDIA in this it's hard to recommend them for anyone that needs to do transcoding. I run mostly AMD GPU's but I can't rationalize putting one in my plex server that runs headless, the other 99% of the GPU is useless, I just need encoding/decoding and AMD pulls up the rear. My other 6 desktops run AMD GPU's (4 are Intel, 2 AMD), and 3 of my 5 laptops are nvidia :). I just buy w/e does what I need it to do at the time for the $ I can afford and most are for my kids so $/perf is/was most important. It seems their new cards can keep up with raster @ 4k, hopefully their RT isn't to horrible and they have some slight improvements to encoding and most importantly, they are available ;).

The Pharma/Chemical/Auto industry does it,I am sure nVIDIA/AMD/Intel do it as well. Its a cheap form of 'advertising' to easily sway the avg CONsumer

AMD's HEVC is reportedly quite good. but their H.264 is way behind in quality, at streaming bitrates. (under 10,000kbps).

Didn't Lisa Su or someone from AMD say big Navi was going to be a "4k killer"? The new XBox X will game at 4k 120fps in at least some selected titles so, why can't big Navi? I've got nutbags attacking me for even mentioning big Navi at 4k 120fps - what's up with that?

Xbox Series X Graphics Performance: "The idea behind these specs is to allow the Xbox Series X to support 4K gameplay at 60 fps across all new games, as well as 8K or 120 fps gameplay for some select titles."

"Xbox Series X Key features: 4K at 60 Fps, 8K, 120 Fps, ray-tracing, fast load times"

Xbox Series X can game in 4k at 120fps in at least some games why can't "Big Navi"

Yeah my old GTX1080 could do 4k/120 in games like Smite or League of Legends too...

I think the bigger titles are doing 30 fps and possibly not full 4K (checkerboard, etc.) but lighter/older games might get 4K120.

I'm sure Big Navi could do at least that, it should be noticeably better than the APU in consoles.

I am not sure where are you going with that, 4K 120FPS does not mean much without specifying games and graphics, I am sure some stuff can run a 4K -120 fps with any video card that has a displayport 1.3 or more output.

But to an minimum of 120 FPS in 4K in what will be somewhat old game in 2021 is hard even with 3090 in SLI:
https://www.techspot.com/news/86956-dual-nvidia-rtx-3090s-sli-neat-but-certainly.html

I would imagine console will let people choose between high graphic 30 FPS 4K, or lower graphic 60 FPS 4K mode type of typical scenario for bigs game and 4K-120 FPS for platformer.

AMD yet to reveal all their cards, claims RedGamingTech

His "sources" claim AMD has a 3090 competitor in the works !!
