AMD Confirms Zen 3's Performance Is Monstrous and Speculation Thread

I hope AMD can bring something that beats Intel at gaming. I'm thinking about upgrading the 8700k. Would like to go with Team Red this time. Deliver the goods, Dr. Su!

That looks like the front-runner for the board I'll get. Although I don't care for the integrated NICs it has most of the other things I'm looking for.

The only sore spot for me is the conventionally-laid-out ATX Connector. I'd much prefer the 90° rotated ATX connector orientation like the MSI Creation Prestige but there's never a "perfect" motherboard...

Well all this purse swinging will be put to rest here in a couple weeks or so. When the dust settles it may be a new ball game for all.

November 5th? No 5 GHz? That kinda sucks, but overall it still looks really good. $50 price hike across the stack as well, though.

I think it looks competitive, with good striation between price points. That 5800X is going to move with enthusiasts.

We now know the price of AMD's Ryzen 5000 processors:
  • AMD Ryzen 9 5950X: $799
  • AMD Ryzen 9 5900X: $549
  • AMD Ryzen 7 5800X: $449
  • AMD Ryzen 5 5600X: $299
Here are the prices AMD Ryzen 3000 chips launched at for comparison:
  • AMD Ryzen 9 3950X: $749
  • AMD Ryzen 9 3900X: $499
  • AMD Ryzen 7 3800X: $399
  • AMD Ryzen 7 3700X: $329
  • AMD Ryzen 5 3600X: $249
  • AMD Ryzen 5 3600: $199
That $50 bump across the board tells me AMD is very comfortable. All I know is, my wife will hate me when she sees our bank account in November.

I'm kinda surprised with the benchmarks they presented, anybody else notice the -3% in BFV ?? Overall they look solid, I hope on the 28'th they announce Threadripper.

I'm more surprised they put it front and center in the collage. Yay for transparency I guess but weird choice.

Well looks like I am looking forward to a 5950X upgrade for my board now on top of an upgrade to my 1080 Ti. My wallet is going to hate me again this year, just like last year when I did my 3900X rig. Looks to be a massive increase over my current cpu at least.

Welp...If their claims actually pan out in the real world guess I'm upgrading my CPU early next year (possibly around tax time).

Looks likes 5800X is for me assuming I can get it during launch day if the scalpers don't get it before I do.

I was sad to see they dropped the X700 CPUs. It makes sense since there was practically no reason to pay for the X800 cpus. Raising the price $50 on top of getting rid of the cheaper 8 core option just adds insult to injury.

Good wakeup call for anyone that still believed AMD isn't in the game for money and was going to sell top tier products at mid tier prices once they fully took the performance crown.

AMD is missing 5700X with 65Watt TDP. (similar to 3700X). that is the one I am interested in.

Companies almost always release the high end first to get as much money from customers who want the best and newest. Price/perf parts to fill out the stack will almost certainly be coming out later. The missing name is a clear clue to that. Its the same idea as the 3080 and 3090 coming out out first and followed by a 3070 with no lower end 3060 parts announced. Just because it hasn't been announced now doesn't mean that they won't fill in the price stack later.

Maybe but I'm pretty sure x700's have been part of the launch stack throughout Ryzen and the 5600x is clearly listed. It would be a nice surprise but i'm not holding my breath.

old proverb: good things come to those who wait.

edit: and bad caps on scalped cards for those who don't.

Looking at the price gap between the 5600X and 5800X there is definitely room to slot in a 5700X. Perhaps something they'll launch down the road? Unless they want to simplify their product stack and only have one of each core and thread configuration.

Not with Intel's portfolio, in my opinion.
AMD will likely have a bunch of SKUs

You can still pick up a current gen Intel cpu for $5-600 with lesser performance. Free will and all.

Seriously though these prices are fine if they actually deliver as promised. Pretty stoked to see actual reviews.

Well, I am also comfortable waiting another 12 months for AMD to sell this shit on discount. I can wait until Zen 4 :D

And at some point, they have to introduce a 5700X. They can't leave OEMs hanging on 8-core processor (the 3700x needs a replacement for smaller 8-core systems, but may not be worth the margin-cut yet.)

But I'm not surprised they are going for the max performance parts at-launch.

An d meanmwhile, we have anther fucking month to wait...so much for AMD having better launch availaibility than Nvidia  - by the time you can buy big Navi, the 3060 Ti will be shippping

I think you may have missed the point, but thanks for the clarification.

I wonder if AMD is thinking Renior G is what slots in there. 8 cores 16 threads, 65W power envelope.

Absolutely not. Starving Zen 2 with 1/4 the L3 cache per-core is not what I think of when I think of a "5700X replacement." It's going to be 10% slower tan Zen 2 3700x parts you can already buy.

No, the reason they did this whole massive rebranding rodeo is because Zen 3 is so much more powerful, and they want to stop the confusoin. You would be better-off buying a 5600X over a Zen 2 8-core APU.

65w Renoir is aimed at high-end Thin miniITX systems (most popular market), while Zen 3 65w processors are aimed at high-end thin systems with a dedicated discrete graphics card (less popular). But AMD needs to provide both eventally.

I'm really curious in the difference in performance between the 5800x vs 5900x. I don't need that many cores in the 5900x, but I wonder how much of a difference that 70MB vs 36MB cache really makes
I'm also going to be choosing between the 5900x and 5800x. On the one hand 5900x should be faster since it has more raw horsepower but it uses an 8+4 CCD design vs the single 8 core CCD of the 5800x so how does that affect latency and performance in gaming?

There will be 5700X in the future for sure, they will be the processors that couldn't quite make it to become a 5800X.

And of course AMD is out to make money. In the past, they had to sell at lower prices to people that wanted good value for their performance, since then they have been working to bring top tier performance. Now that they are there, they are charging what they feel is the appropriate cost for the performance you are getting.
