AU O rumored to have low stock and high demand (for those of us waiting for 4k, 120+hz monitors)

I saw an article - sadly paywalled - the headline of which was that AU O is absolutely slammed with orders and low supply, indicating prices on monitors will remain high for the near future. There was some implication that, generally, monitors - especially freestanding PC monitors was a really low priority - that literally every other sector, from TVs to laptops/tablets etc were in such high demand that they're struggling to meet the orders already placed.

As someone interested in grabbing a 32 inch 4k with 120+ hz, that's not good news.

Anyone else finding information on a light at the end of this tunnel? (The article was from a month ago - hoping to see some indication coming out of the East that production has increased).

To help us all out, you could post the article you're referencing... anyway...
Two things:
1.) I haven't heard anything.
2.) If true, I'm not surprised.

If anything that would explain why monitors that are several years old at this point haven't moved in pricing. The XB273k/XV273k and Predator 27 are all basically the same price. There have been new entrants to the display market that are newer direct competitors from LG display (27GN950-B) that of course cost the same amount as the Acers and none of the prices on any of the monitors have gone down. I haven't seen any price drops on any of the major LG productivity displays either. The only things that are cheap or have gone down in price is the bottom end or monitors over 3 years old.

I like you am also waiting for a 30-32" 4k 120Hz-144Hz true 10-bit option. Hopefully LG will get moving and other panel makers like Samsung and Sony will actually make 32" giving some competition in the market.

And now some side tangents that you can feel free to skip:
I'm also hoping that as Apple moves to ARM they'll make a 30-32" iMac that finally has a high Hz display in addition to being high DPI (currently 5k). If anyone can leverage LG to make a better panel for one company it's Apple. And that will also make said panel available to other companies to make a standalone display (and also likely Apple themselves). Or possibly Mini LED (which should also offer localized dimming and much better HDR/contrast ratios), which is also supposedly coming. Either way, I want much better display improvements at non-stagnant pricing.

As in stands it basically makes more sense to buy the 48" LG CX OLED for $1500 than it does to spend $1000-$2000 on a computer monitor of arguably lesser visual fidelity for 4k 120Hz even if you don't want a display of that size - and frankly that's a dumb position for the market to be in.
 
AUO is just one supplier of display panels. What about others like Innolux, LG, Samsung, Panda, etc?

TFT Central's panel development roundups are getting a bit out of date, but Innolux and LG were supposed to have several 4k 144Hz panels going into production at various points over this year. There was no December 2019 article for Samsung, but since they've stated they're ending LCD production this year entirely I'm not surprised; they were planning to release at least on curved 4k 144hz VA panel last year; it's not a segment of the market I'm interested in, so I don't know if it actually came out. No idea what if anything Panda's doing (not sure if I've ever heard of them before today).

That Philips is a VA panel. I know some like them - but the unicorn I'm hunting is an IPS

The problem I have with Samsung is the focus on curved screens - which I don't like (and think was a way to move va panels with bad angles)

VA viewing angles were never a problem selling screens in the past; I think it's more they went so wide that flat wasn't a reasonable option anymore; and then decided to warp their normal screens too so they could both spread the R&D costs over more sales and have something unique to try and hype to boost sales.

AUO made the notoriously bad 43" 4K 120-144 Hz panels found on Acer and ASUS models. BGR subpixels, ghosting and black smearing issues. Great contrast ratio though. They seemed more like repurposed TV panels.

At this point all the panel manufacturers seem to be mostly treading water and putting out the same crap they have been for the last 6 years. Above 1440p options are still pretty slim. Display manufacturers then have to use those panels as most of them don't have the kind of clout to say "make us a panel with these specs". Even LG and Samsung who use panels from their parent company's display division are in this same situation it seems.

Meanwhile TV market has had rapid improvement in the past two years where they are now a viable computer display option with fairly low input lag. The only issue is that nobody makes a smaller TV that supports above 60 Hz refresh rates and overall the 40-43" TV segment has no high end models to pick. The LG CX 48" OLED is the smallest really good TV you can buy right now.

Then there's the difference between "gaming" and "business" where business side has features like PbP while gaming has the high refresh rates and fast panels. As if nobody would like to have both in the same package, especially on large 4K displays and TVs. I would love to be able to splitscreen on my LG OLED like you can on some of LG's 43" displays.
