NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 is ~10% faster than RTX 3080

Because the vast majority (likely close to 100%) of 2080 Ti’s were sold at $1200+.
Still doesn’t change the fact that $999 cards existed and were able to be bought. My statement still holds true. I never said anything about which version of the cards sold more or less. Fact is that with the 2080 Ti Black, it was available for $999 soon after launch. No matter how you try to bend the situation.

To clarify, my statement would’ve been misleading if I said that the 2080 Ti MSRP was only $300 more than a 2080 for a total of $999 but then no cards were actually sold at that price. The $999 MSRP would’ve been true but it wouldve been misleading because no cards were available at that price. But that wasn’t the case.

You do know that a unicorn is a myth, right?
You are correct, however in the context it was intended to be used to describe that it was one of a kind card at the time of release for $999. Not that it didn’t exist or was a myth.

what about the 3080 Super? I bet they'll be a Ti and also a Super, possibly a Titan

If we look at the historical product release habits of nVidia going all the way back to the GeForce2, then we can safely say that Ti versions of the 3000 series emerging as a mid-cycle refresh is a safe bet.

Nothing is guaranteed, but, it's a safe bet, nonetheless.

No they where described that way cause someone decided to be cute. And it stuck because there was truth in the joke. No retailers I know of ever hit that price on actual stock.... accept perhaps for a few sales to staff or something perhaps. lol

Clearly not real and unobtainable...so much so that it wasn’t discussed here with users that owned the card...oh wait...

But I guess whatever helps y’all sleep at night.

i only paid 1000 for mine, brand new

You and about 5 other Unicorns or so. They were nonexistent most of the launch, they got a bit easier to find toward the end of the 2000 series run. Also most people spending that coin wanted a better card then what the $1000 dollar card was. It's funny to me any gamer is even considering a 3090 compared to how little it's better then a 3080. Looking forward to see how AMD does and seeing the whole picture before I commit to one or the other.

Regarding the whole Cap-Topic: I'm sacrificing my 3090 right now and replacing caps for testing. Right now all I see is speculation and no evidence. What if the vendor just has a terrible BIOS configuration and didn't do proper evaluation before shipping the cards? I've been doing cap mods for many years starting from like 8800GT over to GTX580, GTX780Ti... from what I remember cap mods usually helped to improve clocks by 20-40 MHz but not 100-200 MHz. I mean look at the TUF in this video. It has only MLCCs in the back but it's not a golden overclocker? I had to do quite extreme mods to push it to 2100 MHz. Keep this in mind with your pitchforks

Great video, what a clusterfuck for AIB's.

This has been the worst launch in recent memory, even surpassing Memory Gate on the 970.
You sure you watched the video? So far it's looking like the boost algorithm had just needed a tweak.

pitch forks out :(

And that's why the current solution in Nvidia's newest drivers is to just down clock the card's boost by a bit and make it less likely to go over 2GHz where non-golden sample, lucky lottery silicon tends to fail without multiple mlcc arrays.

Wow, incredible concentration

Han no idea he was into mountain biking. Brings me back to when I used to do BMX courses as a kid. Respect!
i think the video would be better with absolutely no context. nothing about his vacay. just him on the bike, talking about nvidia. that would have been epic. and then no answers as to what was going on.

Louis Rossman did that a few times I think

Just randomly biking and talking

I don't understand this. Steve needs to just unplug from everything and ride his mountain bike in peace.
This reeks of poor self respect, self flagellation, and a little bit of misplaced self-important showmanship...

You need time off from taking 100 hours weeks? Fine - take it. Frankly, your updates in your downtime aren't that important Steve...we can exist without moment to moment updates... --- this goes for any vblogger. The sense of self worth/value/requirement to address the audience is inflated...

It's for this reason I strongly discourage my 11 year old daughter from spinning up a youtube channel and perhaps unintentionally developing such a sense of misplaced self importance. What's next Steve on the toilet giving updates? Sleepless nights because you feel the pressure that would make you do this type of update? Or crying on youtube like Linus because he feels so much pressure. No thanks...it feels gross to me even watching that.

Now the downhill riding and concentration - yes - props Steve. You have skill, concentration, and ability... Just take a vacation man.

Definitely not. EVGA had a $999 2080 Ti Black and I believe a couple other AIBs did as well. Most were $1200+ but there were ones that were $999-1200.

nVIDIA raised the price from 999 a while after launch, only eVGA had the Black Edition AT LAUNCH,until recently at 999USD,but others joined them at that price but with blower style HSF cards. I bought a few as they were released for system builds for others. About a dozen last year.

Holy crap that is a huge performance improvement when supported!

Tin foil hat on: 3090 was supposed to have two 3080's but heat killed that idea. To prevent two 3080's killing the current 3090 along with cries that not enough games were supported, nvidia eliminated SLI!

To go further with the Tin Foil Hat, how much of a screw you would it be if the 20GB 2080 supported SLI? LOL

The things people will do to find outrage. "This $700 card is only slightly faster than last year's $1,200 card pushed to its absolute limits! Shock!"
I'm offended that you are trying to deny me the right to be upset that the sky is blue and not made of cotton candy. /S

People when they aren't able to get their hands on something for whatever reason will complain. If they could get one without the stock issue or price bothering them it wouldnt come to this.
