NVIDIA delivered a little better than Canon on their first 8K consumer product

"The gameplay was posted ahead of launch and official review embargo, and as Marques explains, his video is not a review. This is not the first time NVIDIA allowed select press members to show a product ahead of other journalists. We have heard a lot of negative comments from the journalists whose work is undervalued when select media gets exclusive rights to show the product before others.

Both YouTubers used LG Signature ZX 88 inch TV which is an 8K display with G-Sync support."

You can tell that Doom Eternal isn't hitting 60fps in that video. 3090 performance must be complete shit. No reviews before launch? Zero confidence.

AMD has a huge opportunity here. Nvidia blew it with both of these cards. One doesn't have enough VRAM and the other underperformed for its price.

Was watching it last night. The takeaway I got was not needing AA.

Reminds me of the comparison I did using World of Warcraft when I upgraded to a 4K monitor.

I'm not sure I'd call 8k with nightmare settings at mostly 60fps (with a few dips) 'complete shit,' but I agree that consumers should be wary without pre-launch reviews.

It isn't mostly 60fps. Just watch the video. It's obvious that it's not hitting 60fps most of the time.

Disingenuous comparison. You see the real advantage of 4k in a game like that when objects are at a distance. Think about it. You can throw as many pixels at any object a mile away from you that you used to be able to throw at an object right up in your grill. That's the actual benefit of 4k. Not putting your camera up a low resolution model's nose.

The game is night and day in 4K compared to 1080p. Draw distance and all. So I can imagine the same jump going to 8K.

Up close or far, pixels are pixels and 4K is so much clearer compared to 1080.

What videocard and resolution do you run for your games?

So while I have you guys on stage, with these jumps to 4k and 8k, does it get to the point where you're constantly swiveling your head all around to view the entire screen? Or is everything just bigger? I play mostly Path of Exile and can't help but think I'd be constantly looking all around the screen for drops.

I’m on a 43” 4K monitor and find the distance I’m at is good. No need to swivel my head.

Maybe, but his comparison is in line with my experience moving from 1440p to 4k in that game and others. The clarity is amazing. I also saw the inverse effect when I went back from 4k60 to 1440p165 with HDR. I find I prefer the resolution at 32"+ screen size to the increased frame rate.

My dream monitor is 32-35" 4k 120 or 144hz with HDR1000. My wallet is ready, now make the panel lol. I was thinking 3090 to drive this combo, but since the display doesn't yet exist I have the luxury of waiting a bit.

Edit: I think I misinterpreted your response. Either way, the above is my experience with 4K. We'll see how much I miss high refresh when I take my 4K60 panel back from the wife.

Going to be honest, burning horsepower to render 8K over things like Ray Traced light and shadows at this point seems monumentally wasteful.....if you can't see the details at 1440 or 4k, unless we are talking IMAX type screens, then its probably time to ask yourself what is really important. Having a car that goes to 250mph is great but having a car that goes to 100, but hits 0-60 in 2 seconds.....which is worth more to you? If the answer is "Both", great...take a seat...it's going to be awhile before your wish is granted. We have 'enough' resolution right now......let's focus on more important post-processing and reality-creating effects for awhile, imho.

It's pure marketing bollocks.

Games running on medium/high, on a GPU 10% faster than the 3080 (nvidia said so themselves) and 8k is pretty damn useless for gaming on a screen anyway since for it to actually make a difference, you have to be so close that you'd have to turn your head constantly.

The real benefit of 8k gaming will be for VR. Don't know that I'll ever own an 8k tv unless it becomes the standard and there are no other options.

It is, but it also shows that current GPUs are already powerful enough to enable 8K without huge sacrifices; it's just a question of having enough VRAM. I could imagine the 4000-series GPUs allowing 8K with no meaningful compromises.

8K will become standard, because panel manufacturers have nothing to do but keep adding resolution and screen size........gotta sell us something every year.

The joys of resolution are like Quantum physics: Some people get it, and those that don't tend to have trouble believing it, if not outright denying it.

So, when are you purchasing your 30 thousand dollar 8K display? Money is a lot like Quantum physics...

I'm pretty happy with 4K 120Hz. But as soon as 8K 120+hz becomes viable, I'll make the switch.

I do VSR to get 1440p on my lowly 1080p monitor and Hunt:Showdown looks waaay better ... I can only imagine what 4k to 8k is like ... :(

That underestimates the damage this sort of thing does. The disclosure "this video is sponsored by ... " does not even touch on the degree to which the channels in question have allowed themselves to become an extension of marketing.

Way to twist the narrative.....Nobodys saying more resolution is bad, what we are saying is there is a law of diminishing returns based on eyesight alone and we're at the point where instead of making panels higher resolution they should make them, as others have correctly stated (IMHO) both brighter and faster. Resolution is not the key to a good gaming experience, its a part of the equation, but we're at the point where the resolution went from "Wow that's pretty good, 1080p you say? Man that is sharp compared to what we used to have!" to "OMG in just a few years we are now at 4 TIMES that resolution!".....but in that same time sets aren't pushing HDR they way they should and GPUs are now having to push a butt-ton of pixels out that could be otherwise spent on things like better rendering effects, better post-processing, make fog volumetric and smoke convincing, make objects in the game world deformable/destructable............going to 8k is like.....um, ok, great, but now I have to run on low settings? Screw That...4k or even 1440p absolutely qualifies as "good enough for now".
