Got to the order confirmation screen for the MSI Ventus 3080 at Best Buy, then it showed no order details.
No order history.
But the pending charge for the full amount is showing in my bank account.
Chatted with a Best Buy service rep and she said they couldn't see anything, either, but give it about 2 hours and check again to see if either the order appears or the pending charge gets lifted.
Great...

What they did with my 2080ti was they took the order but didn’t actually have cards nor knew when they would ship... so don’t be surprised for that either.

Did you have an empty order history?

You sure it’s bugged? I think it’s just lagged. It acted the same way when I was F5ing for the 2080ti.

Be glad you didn’t get it. It has a low power limit and people that own it are reporting fluctuating frametimes and stutters in games.

Stuttering? That’s interesting. I noticed in the Gamers Nexus FE review there were some games with really really low 1%s. I didn’t get a chance to watch it with audio yet. I wonder if there’s something wonky with these cards.

So here's a little something that just came up. Amazon got back to me about the 3080 I wanted. This isn't a sunshine and rainbows story though. They told me 1 unit was in stock. From GigaParts (whoever they are). For $1,999.95. Somebody actually bought that card at that price (NOT me. Never for that price). If anybody knows where I can get an animated GIF of Dante Hicks facepalming himself from Clerks: The Animated Series that there would finish this take...if I had that animated GIF. Out!

No, I could see it. Your situation sucks more lol.

Yeah it does...because while I was screwing around with BB customer service chat about it, eVGA black came in stock direct from eVGA, but I couldn't order it because of the hold on my bank account from BB.
I'm going to be so PO'd at BB if I don't get my order and they caused me to miss out on ordering from eVGA.

You should see the insanity on the r/nvidia discord. Some of these neckbeards have been awake for 72 hours pressing f5 in hopes of getting a card, it’s really sad/pathetic.

Are people actually pressing F5???
If you're too stupid to use Distill, you dont deserve a card. Amateur hour.

Distill isn't free if you want it to actually work on a hot item like this.
The free version checks every six hours. Hahah Good luck with that - it would never work.

The price they make you pay for the one that checks every two minutes is $80 a month.
https://distill.io/pricing

There are free variants. I'm testing one now. It's called Alert on Change.

That's the cloud app. The LOCAL APP is 5 seconds, 30 alerts per month, free.
I have several newegg pages refreshing at 10 second intervals and I didnt pay a dime. I also used it to get all those ebay alerts last week.

Jeez, I want a 3080 but not that bad. I'm only going for the FE or ASUS TUF OC Edition currently. If I don't get one within about a week from checking all the sites every once and a while I'll probably just wait for AMDs response and go from there since this whole situation is just getting silly.

Yay it arrived.

I am really disappointed that we are so many days past launch and you are the first person who I have seen actually give any data on the affects of the card blowing air in this direction. I saw more than a few reviewers who were asked about it / mentioned it pre launch but I have yet to see anything that really goes into this detail. FYI i have by no means scoured the internet about it so perhaps there is info out there i have missed.

I'm disappointed in the reviewers as well. I can't recall if anyone provided any data other than "it had less of an impact" and "we will post of a video on it later". For me, I'm not overclocking or pushing my RAM in any way, but I could imagine that for some folks 15c would result in reduced system stability.

To be fair I haven't adjusted my case fans to remove air optimally to see if I can reduce these numbers any. As my case is currently laid out I have the AIO exhausting heat out the front, a 140mm exhausting out the back, and the top of the case open. I think if I move the AIO to the top of the case and turn the front in to an intake I can lower the ambient air the GPU is working with, but I don't expect significant changes in the delta between idle and load when the DIMMs are that close. Case is a Phanteks Eclipse P600S BTW.

I'm just glad I'm not running an air cooler on my CPU.

You definitely will need to make that change. You need fresh cooler air than what's available inside your case now. If you moved it up top with intakes in the front I'm sure you will notice a large drop in temps compared to your old setup, of course comparing like for like with your old card in.

That was my next question. Thanks for sharing the data. Seeing any uptick in CPU temps even with the AIO?
Likely, but since I didn't baseline before installing the card so I don't have a good reference. CPU Temps with a H115i on Ryzen 3900X hit high 70s so I suspect with my current case layout it was likely having a moderate impact on CPU temps.

I think in Linus's review he found that his CPU and RAM temps dropped with the 3080 FE since the air the fan was blowing on them wasn't too hot. That's the only data point I've seen though.

The impact for is quite noticeable with my layout. I'm seeing up to 7c higher CPU temps with both GPU and CPU at high load. Folding at home is only loading the GPU up to 91%. What's the best tool to load up GPU to 100%?
BTW my fan profile on the CPU fans is balanced with a quite profile on the pump, 41c at idle.

Surprised its affecting temps much seeing as one fan is dumping air out of the case, vs an axial setup which doesn't exhaust anything. Suppose its because it's inline with the ram whereas other axial setups would be throwing the air all over the case.

If you want to stay in the realm of DC you can run something like primegrid and do one of the longer work unit types like GFN-20. Imyself and others in the DC section would love to find out how fast it will run.
Other than that something like Unigine Heaven in the loop mode should probably load you to 99-100% If nothing else please do let us know what your FAH PPD is after you have had a day or two to test it!

Someone is passing this document around on NV discord and several people claim they've been watching it's inventory tracking and it's come true. Don't know how true this is or if it's bullshit but supposedly this is for Amazon US:

For everyone's sake, I hope it's just some bs made up by some bored guy because if it's real, well..paperlaunch doesn't quite seem to describe the 3080.
Which time zone is this?

Yeah, I hope that is bogus. Those numbers are nothing... I am expecting entire sea containers full of thousands of units from each board partner at this point. If not, then this is bullshit.

To paraphrase Not an Apple Fan, "If AMD has Big Navi cards in reasonable quantities near their event, Huang will pull a million cards out of a hole in the ground."

An exaggeration, but probably not far from the truth.

That's not an exaggeration at all, we know damn well that shit would happen. I've been watching amazon like a hawk trying to get one of these cards

Based on 5150Joker's attached file he shared, if those numbers are accurate then Amazon isn't even worth looking at getting a card from for eVGA, ASUS or Gigabyte until past October 7th. Those very limited numbers if true will be gone as fast as Thursday. Being that this was shared on NV Discord (which I believe equals nVIDIA Discord) that means the scalpers (who either got a piece of the last action on Thursday or are still hungry and waiting to get some cards) might've had this passed to them too. Don't think for a second that scalpers don't lurk at nVIDIA Discord waiting for something like this to land in their laps. Anything that gives them any edge they'll take it. *Sigh*, I know nVIDIA said limited but if that spreadsheet is indeed true...oh gorram! The fact this leaked (again if true)? Doesn't help anyone who doesn't have a bot to program/script. One last thing to ponder though: the numbers. Do they mean total cards or total pallets of cards? You never know. Out!

Not Out...UPDATE: eVGA on Twitter 6 hours ago has admitted they too are hand checking every order placed for cards on their store on launch day. They are cancelling all orders from Thursday that are confirmed to be "bot ordered". First nVIDIA started their process of doing this. Now eVGA. I think Michael Keaton's character of Monarch in Need for Speed said it best here, "This ain't just about racing...". Out!

Wow, we came to ages where buying a VGA need a bot lol....I mean its not something like an investment, they degrade value overtime, and it also not like critical situation like if you don't buy that you can't game or work.

Lads, rest assured, there is stock available.
Thank taco later :)

Lol at this.

Maybe there is a market for urge need of new things out there.

I think the FE card has more appealing design as it have new way of air flow, which might benefitting some component inside the case

I say, this RTX 3080 situation is just Well managed Hype Advertising.
AMD should play this game as well

Maybe when the 3090 comes out we can snag a 3080. This launch has been terrible so far. I said I'd get a new card if I can find one before October, the way it looks I might not get one

I just uploaded my receipt to evgas step up program. Who knows how long the wait is for step up users to nab a 3080. Hopefully before Nov.

Your fan layout sounds poor. (Both front and back exhausting and top intake with no fans you said)
What case do you have?

You’d be better off having exhaust facing up and back on most cases and intake on front and bottom. Heat rises of course, and your current case fan arrangement is fighting natural convection airflow. Swap your fans to this orientation - even pick up additional fans if necessary - and I think your problem will be eliminated.

AIO radiator on the top front exhausting. Another fan on the top back exhausting above your FE card.
Rear fan exhausting.
Front fan position and bottom fan position as intake.

I agree it's suboptimal. The case is the Phanteks Eclipse P600S. While I was waiting for the 3080 I just had a spare GTX1650 LP card in there and had the top cover on the case. All I did was swap the cards and remove the top panel. While I should change the fan layout I plan on getting a 3090 Hybrid as soon as they are released. So with that in mind I'm trying to consider if I want the GPU cooler exhausting out the top, CPU front, and switch the rear to an intake.

Brian at TechYesCity commented on CPU and RAM temps and said it was minimal.

Great...

For anyone that cares (or may be facing a smiliar situation as me):
My Best Buy order history is still blank, but the bank account hold is still there.
Chatting with their customer service again to hopefully find out what the heck is going on.

Will update this post as I get new info.

[EDIT]
Here's the last part of the chat transcript with Best Buy:

  1. <CSR name redacted>:
In this case i request you to please contact our Best Buy phone team at 1-888-237-8289 and ask for the removal of hold, as they have the tools to deal with these issues and the could help you with releasing the funds to your account back
  2. 11:55 a.m.
    You:
why isn't my order listed in my purchase history, even though I got to the completion stage and there's a funds hold on my bank aco****?
  3. You:
*bank account* - my apology for the typo
  4. 11:58 a.m.
    <CSR name redacted again>:
I certainly understand the way you feel, as we have limited access we could not able to figure this from my end, That's why I request you to please give call to our phone team as they have the better tools to deal with these issues, they can surely help you with this for you.

Been on the phone for 15 minutes listening to elevator music waiting for someone to answer....

[EDIT2]
Been through two different groups/people on the phone that can't help, and now waiting on hold again for the third group to answer my call.

[EDIT3]
Got to the third team member after another 20 minute hold, he took my info, then said he would need a few minutes to check into it. Placed me on hold, I immediately heard a dial sequence in the background, and I was back to the very start of the menu system!
So, I put my info in for a call back, waited about 10 minutes, the call came in, and it said I was the next person in line. It rang once, then went dead...it kicked my call!
Called back, put my info in AGAIN for another call back...now waiting for that one.

Been just over an hour now playing the phone game and I haven't been able to talk to anyone at Best Buy that can actually help me.
This is seriously wanting me to vote with my wallet and never shop there again, despite a physical store only about 7-10 minutes down the highway from my front door.
They are holding almost $800 hostage from the bank hold and can't even tell me why.

[EDIT4]
Got the call back and talked to someone that was a bit more helpful, but still couldn't (or wouldn't) admit there was a problem and my order never got placed, despite the bank hold. She said they were going to "send this to their back office team for investigation" and in the meantime, I have to contact my bank and get the hold reversed\lifted.

No 3080 for me right now...

It would be nice if cards started flickering in and out of stock to at least give some indication that inventory levels will normalize. I think we are still about 2 weeks away from that happening though. Seems like EVGA is the only one with stock filtering in.
