I mined on eight PNY XLR8 1070 for the better part of three years and I bought them from another miner used before that. I had one card that developed an intermittent squeak in one of the fans. The others were perfect. They ran quiet and cool. Definitely great cards. I’d buy XLR8 again without hesitation. I’d say one of, if not my favorite cards I mined with.

I've found that any manufacturer can get a squeaky fan. RMA'd a noctua for it once.

They're built with "the cheapest everything." They might have worked well for your particular application, but that still doesn't qualify them as a quality product. Anyone can do what they like with their own money. I, for one, am not buying any of their junk.

I don’t agree in the slightest. I had my hands on over 100 cards for mining. The XLR8 were top shelf for look and feel. They were quality. They leaked very little thermal pad grease, they had a thick quality back plate, the materials used were mostly metal, not plastic. They felt robust and solid. These are my PNY XLR8 1070 cards that I recently sold. I had them the longest if any of my cards. They were my favs. Other favs were EVGA Black 1080TI and AMD Sapphire RX580, and MSI 1080 TI FE. Zotac Amp 1080TI, ASUS Turbo 1080TI, powercolor rx580 stuck out as particularly crappy built quality cards as a comparison. Everything else was relatively middle of the road and didn’t strike me as particularly good or bad.

I have worked with cards from all the major manufacturers, so I have a slight idea about what I'm talking about. I'm also entitled to my own opinion, and I'll leave it at that. Everyone else is free to spend their own money how they see fit. I'm not buying any PNY cards, and that's that.

He talks about supply at 15:40. Says AIBs told him (off record) supply is the same or more as past launches.

3:05: Getting lectured by a FAT ASS about consumerism, man that is fucking rich!

Easy for this asshat to say, he has what...half a dozen 3080s to play with.
I cant stand most of these youtubers and hate the WHOLE its JUST A GPU dont get so mad, there are more serious issues in life jibber jabber.

Which is EXACTLY why one should get so mad. New GPUS are ones of the little bits of happy in life, like that morning cup of coffee...to help steal you away from the bullshit and stresses of the day.

I don't mind legit scalpers who have a card or two earned by F5'ing the fastest or waiting in a long ass line in front of a box store.
But getting FUCKED over on your little bit of happy from BOT assholes is bad and people should be genuinely mad.

Honestly I would not piss on a bot scalper if they were on fire!

I agree. I bet they would lose their shit if they didn’t get any cards for their money grabbing videos. It’s nice to tell people to calm down and it’s not a big deal when they have a handful of cards to play with.

No wonder Nvidia charges the prices they do when you see people fiending and seething over not being able to give them money.

Crypto miners don’t resell their golden gooses on eBay. These 3080s might make $4-5 per day on ETH mining at close to 100 Mh/s

Crypto miners have the incentive, knowledge, and infrastructure to DoS Newegg, EVGA, and B&H. eBay flippers generally would not.

Newegg reported more traffic to their site yesterday than Black Friday. They got Overloaded and were offline intermittently for about 1/2 hour. Flippers aren’t gonna do that.

I don't think mining had anything to do with it. The ROI is just too great at this point. Unless you are severely space restricted. Navi cards are much better in terms of hash per watt. If I were firing up a mining operation, I would be looking at cheap used Navi not brand new Ampere.

He might carry a dormant balding gene, at least, one can only hope. 😉

All of these TechTubers (that's the correct term) try to present themselves as highly technical - highly skilled reviewers, elevating their dumb videos to factual science. JayzTwoCents always tries to play down his lack of knowledge by playing dumb or humble. Give me a f*cking break. I can't watch any more of this stupid content as it holds very little useful information. I miss the days when I could read [H]ardOCP with a cup of coffee in my hand and know for a fact what I should and shouldn't spend my money on. I learned a lot here over the years, and still am. These days on YouTube computer hardware reviews are much like pickup truck reviews: "It's only $50K, so very affordable, and you might only get 3 MPG pulling 7000 LBS up a hill, however, look how nice it is and OMG that leather interior! This truck, compared to the other trucks, might have some advantages, and some disadvantages, and because we milk money from all 3 major US truck manufacturers, we can't really call them out on anything, so we'll leave it up to you to decide which one to buy, as long as it's a GM, Ford or RAM. We're only here to present the facts." - So, that's about how TechTubers act, because they can't really tell the truth, otherwise the next day they will have to find a real job. I wonder how they deal with the depression caused by being locked up in their own little world...

No, though I did have two different AIB cards in my cart on Best Buy before they sold out. I chose to not buy as I think I'm going to wait for 3090 or AIO cooled 3080.

Same here. It was they are flashed in and out of stock even after it said in my cart it was out of stock.

30 mins videos are stupid though. Dude repeats a lot and rarely has structured videos.

True I'll give you that, I normally watch him when I'm doing something else so it's more background noise. He does use indexes now which helps if you want specific info.

Honest question, why cant sites line amazon, newegg start taking preorder for the cards and ship as they get them?
They used to do that. But the backorder will extend into Holiday 2021.
Nvidia and EVGA have their own stores, they'll post stock there even though your are waiting on Amazon.

Thanks, but no, thanks. I'm not too fond of their products, as their QA and build quality leaves a lot, and I mean A LOT to be desired.

This thing is hideous, and those fans look like they can't wait to rattle:

wish they had stuck with their normal XLR8 design but as far as build quality goes i've owned 5 or 6 PNY cards over the last 10 years and every single one of them still works to this day.. other than their short warranty their QA and build quality is just as good as all the other companies.

He seems to have verbal diarrhea. It's either that he wants to milk the YouTube algorithm for viewer watch time, or that he's not smart enough to be concise and to the point in his statements. I don't like people who lament over and over again about a subject, which is what he's doing in his videos.

that's rich coming from you but what ever. his 30 minute video's is actually worse for him within the YT algorithm. you make less money overall through ad's and your video's are less likely to be suggested as well. YT considers 10-12 minutes as the perfect video length within their algorithm.

but since you seem to be an expert on everything and nothing, have a nice day..

Went to my local Best Buy, which was closed Wednesday and Thursday due to Sally, and the employee there said they don't have 3080's and they don't expect them any time soon. He was super quick to respond, which means I'm probably not the first to ask.

Looks like I'm continuing my quest online. Now that there are almost confirmed rumors that a 20GB RTX 3080 is coming, not being able to get one day-one might be a blessing in disguise.

As for Steve from GamersNexus, he's incredibly knowledgeable, thorough, and unbiased based on the videos I've seen from him. He is a bit long winded at times, but I'd rather someone hit me with too much info than too little.

Pre-ordered an Evga 3080 at adorama this morning. No idea when it'll ship but at least it's something...

Edit: also just nabbed a zotac from Amazon with a September 30th date.

Will keep whatever ships first and cancel the rest.

Dang.
I agree that Powercolor makes some cheap cards, however I was really impressed with the Red Devil Series. I have a RX580 Red Devil and its a freaking solid card! One of the best 580s I believe.
Makes my MSI RX5700 feel cheap by comparison.
Haven't been impressed by MSI's stuff lately (Mobos, GPUs, some laptops) except for the Lightning series of GPUs.

On topic: Does seem like a "paper launch".
However, thats better than none at all.

Still works for me.

You must use that link to add to cart

Tells me to "see other buying options" and there's a $1499 scalper trying to sell one.

Edit: Nevermind. I got it to work.

Edit2: It doesn't look like it is in stock. It says "Order now and we'll notify you by email when we have an estimated delivery date for this item."

It's showing as "see other buying options" on my end, too. Still, at least Amazon is showing stock here and there. The 2080's were like this for a few weeks, too.

Using the link? Don't go to the product page. I can still checkout with another (I didn't, but got to the end)

Not sure I trust that I'd get that anytime soon. I think the 12.5" is a little long for my case anyway. Thanks though.

9/30 isn't that bad. If I was looking for a 3080 (rather than the 90), I'd take that.

Yeah, showed September 30th for me. Better than nothing.

I thought about it, and ended up ordering that. It didn't tell me 9/30, but with Amazon, I can always cancel if I find one sooner.

Edit: It looks like the "release date" is 9/30. I hope they have one to send me for then.

How in the he'll did you find that link, props man. I will hold off opening my evga 2070 super to see if this works.
